Looking for a unique way to travel between Korea and Japan? There are actually two ferry options you can choose from! The JR Beetle and the Camellia Line both offer transportations between the unique cities of Busan and Fukuoka.
This video will give you a glimpse of what it is like to travel aboard the Camellia line. I went for the longer overnight voyage from Busan to Fukuoka in an effort to save on cost. It turned out to be a super comfortable and fun way to travel! I will discuss price, accommodation, amenities, and give you a tour so you can know what to expect if you hope to take the Camellia line while country hopping. I will put links to the two ferry sites below! Please feel free to ask any questions and thanks for watching!

Thanks for this very informative vlog! I've never been to Korea but definitely will consider this alternative way to travel between Korea and Japan one day. However, I still prefer the "real" bunk bed instead of that kind of "shelf" bed, ha. I like it when you say "我沒有美國時間" (I don't have American time) in Taiwanese. That really cracked me up! lol. Its a good one. As the covid-19 is still spreading around globally, I think no one knows what the future travel will look like. It's definitely going to be changed. Great video, Joe.

Thank you! I am really looking forward to when travel can go back to normal again (or as normal as possible). I was just taught "我沒有美國時間" from a coworker so I wanted to try and use it in the video haha. I look forward to the day I might be able to have a normal conversation in Taiwanese! i guess I need to start studying, Taiwanese is so fun to try and speak.

@@Travelingjoe I hope soon people can be back to travel again soon too. But lots of experts say some "restrictions" might become normal in the future travel. Just hope those additional restrictions won't affect those budget travelers like you and me. If you can hold a Taiwanese conversation with locals, I guarantee they will LOVE you and spoil you! lol. Also, my real experience when I took my friend to Chicago a few years ago. We were talking to each other with Taiwanese in the subway red line train. There is an American sit next to me and asked us with very good Taiwanese "Are you from Taiwan? I used to live in Tamshui(淡水)". Me and my friend were so amazed! He told me he was a Mormons missionary in Taiwan for 2 years. So maybe someday you can surprise some Taiwanese with fluent Taiwanese when you get back to the US. haha

Hi Joe, One time in busan, I took a touring ferry around the coast of Busan. At first, I thought that we could see Japan (At least Tsushima island) from the ferry, but I was so wrong. When I looked at the map, the distance between these 2 areas were approximately 50 kilometers (31.1 miles). If we were to travel this distance, it would take about 1-2 hours to reach our destination. Therefore, I realized that I needed to go way more than where we went on the ferry tour. Also, I realized that everyone on the boat including us don’t have our passports. Passports are required if we want to go to another country. Otherwise, we are commiting what’s called, “illegal traveling”. All in all, I thought it would be easy to get from Busan to Japan, as Busan is on the very edge of South Korea, and Japan is exactly below Busan. However, I found out that not only we need a passport to get to Japan, but also I realized that the touring ferry we took in Busan just went around the coast (maybe 0.5-ish miles from the land).

Hi, I booked a tour package and the meet-up point is around Chikushi Gate of Hakata Station, the tour depart at 8.20am. So, I am wondering if I could make it on time using the bus. Does the disembarkation really start sharp at 7.30 am or it could be earlier?

Hi, thanks for the video. Do you know if dogs are allowed on the ferry? (allowed to stay in the car or to go on board)
@Travelingjoe

I don’t know to be honest that is a great question, I can say that I didn’t personally see any pets on board when I was traveling.. I would think it’s possible though probably just some extra paperwork

Can i go to the port, buy the ticket there and drive on the same day? Or must i buy the ticket online before?
@Travelingjoe

I bought mine online and it was pretty convenient, I am pretty sure you could buy them at the terminal as well so long as they had space on the ferry~

Hello I'm staying in South Korea now.If I have tourist visa of Japan,can I go with ferry? If I can, What will be the cost?? Is there any ferry stoppage in Incheon?
@Travelingjoe
@Travelingjoe 2 жыл бұрын
Hey there! You should be fine with a tourist visa, however not right now under corona regulations. From Incheon i'm not too confident because its on the opposite coastline of Korea. However I know that Incheon has ferries that run back and forth to Jeju Island. So you could take a nice summer vacation down in Jeju more easily~ However if you wanna hop from Korea to Japan I think your best bet is to head to Busan.

I don’t know about the prices for taking a bike aboard, however I met people who did bring theirs and I don’t think it’s too too expensive! As for bikes on buses and trains within Korea I am also not sure 🤔 sorry I couldn’t be more helpful!

Do you need Japanese Visa if you are in Korea with Korean Visa to travel by ferry to Japan?
@Travelingjoe
@Travelingjoe 3 жыл бұрын
Hello! I can really only speak for American passport holders, if you have an American passport, Korea and Japan both have visa-free entry. So visiting between the two should be no problem. Of course in the times of coronavirus things are likely different, but hopefully only temporarily 😬 Here is a list of countries that have visa-free entry to Japan, hope it helps! www.mofa.go.jp/j_info/visit/visa/short/novisa.html

Was it easy to run through the immigration in Japan?
@Travelingjoe

It was super easy, we just had to wait in the harbor for a little bit for immigration to open in the morning. A cool way to get back and forth~

Hi!! I was wondering, what is the name of the Fukuoka ramen restaurant showed in the video, it looks so much fun with the noodles swimming and you picking those to your own bowl hahaha
@Travelingjoe
@Travelingjoe 3 жыл бұрын
Hi! This shop was actually a noodle shop near Takachiho Gorge, (likely the most scenic and lovely stops I visited on this trip). You should definitely go there and try this shop and walk along the gorge to see the waterfalls. We rented a car and I believe it was about a two and a half hour drive out of Fukuoka but the view was definitely worth it! Thanks for the question and here are some links for more info, hope you can try it out! Takachiho Gorge: www.japan-guide.com/e/e8052.html Chiho no Ie (Noodle Shop): chihonoie.jp/en/index.html
