You can easily clean up the fungus: open the lens (get a cheap compass screw driver and a rubber ring) and pour the affected lens into low volume peroxide water, 10% or less,for about a couple of minutes. Give the interior of the barrel a good scrub with a tissue with a little peroxide, wash with distilled water and let it dry. Close the lens and you have a mint Zeiss lens for cheap.

If you're handy with mechanical things, you can clean the fungus. There are videos that show how to do it. You need some special tools, but you only have to buy them once. Caveat: it does not always work. If the mold is bad, it can etch the coatings. But often, it does work. But if you're the sort who has screws left over after a mechanical job, then don't try it.

A good lens is a good lens, even with some scratches, fungus or fingerprints. The composition of the glass, the coatings, and the arrangement of elements is more important. Try using a UV-C germicidal light on it. If that doesn't work, you just need to find someone with knowledge of these lenses to dismantle and clean the element

I got my Olympus 75 -300 with fungus for $100. I'm super happy with it as you can't see anything in the photos. Maybe you can send it to the Angry Photographer as he's cleaned fungus out of lenses before and seems to know what he's doing when he takes lenses apart.

Love the channel Kasey. Re your ongoing slo-mo problems, are you aware that you can use FFMPEG to create very convincing simulated slo-mo? So for example you can take a 25p clip and make it into 1000p, and it calculates the in-between frames. Needs a bit of command line geekery but it works really well and looks amazing.

To be honest I really love the look of blackmagic. I think you revive it as you did with the sony x3000. I would try a different lens. I met a guy with lumix S5 and a anamorphic lens, I didn't payed too much attention to it. But when he send me a clip with me I was 😮. I said: this is quite nice actually...

I'm between two setups for low-light urban exploration photos and POV video. I'm thinking either the Fuji X-S10 with the 10-24 or the Olympus E-M1 III with the 8-25. I'm hoping that I can counter the slow apertures with enough stabe, but I'm not sure. Will the Olympus still have better stabe, and will the dynamic range and noise levels be at least somewhat close between the two? Should I consider something else entirely? Maybe a Panasonic with the Leica 10-25? Thanks for blessing us with your wisdom.

Hey Kasey, I’ve been deliberating between X-S20 vs R8 for vlog and low light, wanna cover 24 to 50mm focal lengths. Budget is an issue. RF lenses are so expensive, I dont see a point in buying full frame and slapping t3.5 lens on it. Sigma has good t1.4 lineup for apsc, then there is laowa argus 0.95, all fairly affordable. Do you think “Full Frame look” holds up with cheap lenses and am I making mistake leaning on fuji side? Your opinion will be very helpful. Have enjoyed you content and appreciate the honesty and transparency in the reviews. Thanks.

I have sony a7 IV and tried to make a video while walking. During post processing I can make it somewhat stable, but rolling shutter is killing me. Is there anything possible to do to fix it ? Thanks in advance

The Takumar 50 1.4 is a GREAT lens, i got my 2nd version recently (a radioactive one). The non radioactive, newer version i had before was very unsharp even at F2 and smaller, the radioactive model is not only sharper at F2 and smaller, but it is just a "completely different" lens at 1.4, better than any glimmer glass or filter. That being said... mainly if you use full frame, on APS-C the 1.4 aperture gets very unsharp and "glimmery". You might also look into one of these lenses if you didnt had them already: 50 1.8 Pancolar CZJ, pentacon 50 1.8, If your main concerns are the radiation.... its absolutely harmless. If i would be scared to harm anything, then the sensor or electronics would be this thing since i have this lens mainly as "cap" 24/7 on the camera. And even any harm to the sensor is pretty impossible since the sensor withstand the radiation much better than our body. Btw chances are, one of your vintage lenses is radioactive as well, even if its many times weaker than the average thoriated lenses. Between the 1960s and 70s they loved thorium oxide since it was not only a cheap but very effective way of producing somewhat optically good and big aperture glass. Any 135mm fujinon is even that highly radioactive (over 30% of the weight from thorium oxide in 2 bigger lens elements!) that its considered as dangerous, unlike basically every other thoriated lens.

Japan has very high humidity and the Japanese rarely use soap to wash their hands, so you have tremenous opportunities for bacterial growth. Don't believe me? Go to Japan and see how many public washrooms don't have soap in them.
