Great video about this new product! I have been an Instax Wide camera user for more than a decade, and now finally Fujifilm gives Instax Wide film a printer which this instant film format deserves. I just saw this printer this afternoon in an electronic appliances store in Tokyo, and came to KZfaq to find review videos as I did not know such product was announced and released two months ago! (I did not expect Fujifilm to release any new products for Instax Wide at all) Now my struggle is... whether I should get this printer. I do have a decent and working Fujifilm 500AF but sometimes I did get some overexposed or underexposed photos which were basically a white picture or a dark-black picture... This printer makes sure the Wide films would not go to waste, but the camera gives the element of surprise and it feels great when a good result is obtained and captured on a film without knowing what the outcome would be. Just sharing my silly struggle. :) Hope you are having fun with this great printer!

Excellent review Gordon as always. This is something I would not use often, but at certain events I attend it would be a great addition to carry in my bag and have the option of printing off photos from my phone and giving them to people that are there. The colour reproduction on this model looks very good from the examples you showed in the 'Rich' setting. I will look out for this model becoming available here in France.

I was beginning to worry that fuji would discontinue the wide format since they haven't had a new camera in 8 years. Im very glad this came out, I wouldn't buy a mini printer because I don't want my already good images from a digital camera to be so tiny, and I didnt get the square printer because of the price of the film being actually MORE than the wide. Great review Gordon and a great printer. I have a question, if I a took a photo vertically with my mobile, how will it be printed?
@cameralabs
@cameralabs 2 жыл бұрын
On the WIDE prints, there's a thick white border on one of the long sides, regardless of what orientation your image is. So if you print a portrait / tall / vertical image on the INSTAX Wide, you'll see the thicker border running down one side, which looks a bit lop-sided. It looks best when printing landscape / horizontal images.

Hey Gordon, was the image for the Instax wide in the Mini-Square-Wide-Polaroid comparison printed or shot? Noticed it has a different rendering of the water’s colour to the rest
@cameralabs
@cameralabs 2 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately they were all taken on different days. The Wide was a decent digital image printed with the Wide printer, the rest were from instant camera, so I should have stated that. Unfortunately I don't have a wide camera. You have made a good point though, I should get all the cameras at the same time so I can take the same photo with them all for a fairer comparison. My segment here was more about comparing their size, not their quality or style.

Good choices, although the 1300 has been replaced by the mildly updated 1500 which I've also reviewed. I'd say it depends how big they want their prints and how portable do they want the printer? The Canon makes bigger prints, but the Fujifilm is more portable. Style wise, the Canon is more practical / functional, whereas the Fujifilm is a bit more trendy.

A few years ago I decided to refrain from buying any more product with a micro USB interface, after having experienced repeated failures with them, and in order to make the switch to a USB-C-only electronic arsenal. The release of this product makes it tempting to revoke that decision, since I also own a Fuji camera, which I'd love to pair this with (and which has USB-C, by the way!), but since I really just got rid of my last micro USB-infested piece of electronic, I likely won't. It's a shame I'd have to let this one go just because of the interface... Why, Fuji? :'(

@@Ancaja123 usb port in these printers is just for charging, so there's nothing like wired connection. If I want to print a picture that I took with x100v, I have to connect through fujifilm camera app, send the picture from the camera to my phone, then open another app (instax wide link) and print it from there via bluetooth. And in the meantime tell anyone who's waiting that it's still an "instant" printer haha:) I know that square printers can print straight from majority of the fuji x cameras because they use an older connection method

As a photographer who mainly does family pictures I do have the occasional customer who needs a passport picture (immediately). At the moment I only have a common office printer and some photo paper which seems to be enough for the purpose but the quality isn't exactly stellar. I'm looking for something small and simple but with a better quality. Do you think one of these printers could be the solution or is it more of a gimmick for hipsters?

I bought the intax link wide around 2 years ago and printed about 60 photos the first year all came out fine had it on my shelf for a good while and when I went to print the photos this year every single one is completely black I would NOT recommend buy this as its fairly pricey and warranty it 12 months and mine stopped working not long after at first I thought it must be the film so I bought more and from a different store still just black photos also these are bright pictures not dark. Just wanted to let you know my xp with this product (while I've been looking for any videos' on fixing the issue all are for white pictures being printed )

Well, there's two things going on. First it's not quite 3:2 aspect ratio, so a thin slice is lost anyway, but I also noticed when dragging images in the app, it would reveal a bit more then spring back to crop a tad, so that may be something software related. I'll feed it back. Hopefully an app fix.

@@cameralabs An age old and eminently worthy question sir. One, I believe the great minds of humanity have grappled with. Aristotle, Socrates, Descartes, Hume and perhaps even Kant. Is robust girth (here championed by the splendid symmetry of the SP-3) preferable to the quiet majesty of exceptional length (duly represented by the imposing wingspan of Instax Wide)? Having hefted the facts as presented while sipping from a tumbler of lukewarm tap water, I'm left with what I believe to be the only logical choice. Wide wins.

A great review and don't get me wrong, but that's such a weird product. Why would you use instant film in a portable printer? The prints lack the charm of an actual Instax picture, but look worse than a proper print. They're also less convenient and more expensive. Adding text or emoticons makes me physically cringe. If you like this product, go for it, seriously. As long as you are happy, I'm too. I just want to get it.
@joaoaguilar3022
@joaoaguilar3022 2 жыл бұрын
It's for the style of the photo and to have the memento of that moment. This types of "polaroid" photos have that kind of vibe. You can get a instax camera? yes sure. But film is expensive and you just have one shot at it, miss it and you just throw away money. What if you want to give a photo a way but also want to keep it to save that moment? you have to re shoot and hope that is as good as the first one. What if I forgot to take the (bulky) insta camera? well ... I will always have my phone. For the casual broke photographer (me) this meets all those points. I can choose the photo I like and print as many as I want knowing that is a good photo so I don't waste film. Also, I agree with the emoticons. What a way of ruining a good photo.

I’m watching this on my iPad, as indeed I watch most KZfaq videos. And I simply can’t see the details. I assume you record in 4K? Don’t! You’ll lose many viewers in that way, and there’s no real benefit. As a webmaster for my chess club (about 15 years ago) I learned that at the time most people didn’t even use 1080, so I had to take that into account. Always cater to the ones with the oldest equipment, and you stand a good chance to please everyone. Oh yes, 4K does have its place, but not in presenting to a wider audience.

@@cameralabs I’m not sure you appreciate the problem. When you record and edit in 4K, you’re creating details that will not be clearly visible in lower resolutions. And likewise, if you’re working on a big screen, it may be very nice for you, but again you’re likely to make stuff that aren’t easy to see on a phone or a tablet. When I was a webmaster I regularly checked that what I created also looked good in standard resolution on a 15 inch screen.
