Cam now holds the putter grip a little tighter. He was told that by doing so it activates the right muscles. This is a recent change he made to his putting routine.

I've noticed he maintains the eyes over the line when he approaches the ball doing the 5 steps. That's something good pool players also do.

thanks for making a video about this. I wanted to note on grip pressure i heard him somewhere say his left hand was pretty tight. I think at least 6/10. I think it was a golf channel or golf digest video, he's in his back yard

Yes in his LIV lesson he called this the biggest tip. Grip it firmly and it activates the bigger muscles. Still this video is very well done and much appreciated.

I made a 7 foot string to putt 6 foot putts. It is to find a non-breaking line only. I putted under that thing every day for 2 hours for almost a year. And I pretty much taught myself how to putt. There is much more to putting than meets the eye. You have to read up on the subject too. And you have to take the advice of good putters like Tiger and Crenshaw. You have to fully understand that there is a difference between square to the line and perpendicular to the tilted plane which the shaft tracks on. Once you understand that you will realize blade height off the ground at impact effects blade angle. And you will understand why SBST is the kiss of death. You will understand WHY you arc the putter and why the blade APPEARS to open and close even though it isn't being rotated. Also, timing screws up practice drills. You make everything just because of timing which creeps in from frequent strokes. That is when you discover why touring pros all release the club today with a light grip. They give up control in order to take themselves and their timing out of the putt. Great putters take the time and make the effort to find these things out. I now fully believe good putters are made, not born.

Agreed. My putting used to be trash. Now, it’s definitely the best part of my game! Thanks for the great comment!!

He knows where to aim and how hard to hit. We can spend forever breaking down his stance, grip, moustache... but its really that simple. We dont talk about how Ronnie O'Sullivan holds his cue, or how Van Gerwen stands in front of the dart board. People want putting to be more complicated than it is.
@mikewilsongolf
@mikewilsongolf Жыл бұрын
I don’t think it’s quite that simple. All the people you mentioned have put in countless hours of work to make it look easy.
@lc-ii9ii

@@mikewilsongolf you misunderstand me. I'm saying you wouldn't learn to play snooker by analysing how Ronnie holds the cue. I find it odd that we focus so much on how people putt. Especially as there are clearly a million and one ways to approach it and be good. It's rolling a ball into a hole.

I agree. I was discussing leaving putts short with someone and I realised there is no way for me to describe how I hit it longer and he hits shorter. We have different feels for distance. You can't teach what cam smith has for long putt feels.

Thanks for this video. You mention Cam’s light grip and his hands-free stroke - Interestingly, Cam describes his own grip as a firm 6-7/10 and describes his stroke as quite handsy! Of course, feel vs real may be at play here but worth noting.

Great comment HD Golfin! Is it feel or real and when does he feel the 6/7? Hopefully we will learn more! Thanks for watching as well! Mike

@@LongarmshortarmI don’t know if you’re mixing him up with Brandt Snedeker? Cam Smith has said he has a light grip pressure to promote a smooth and fluid swing. Like all you have to do is search it up.
@Longarmshortarm
@Longarmshortarm Жыл бұрын
@@ohmyfungus5810 no, I’m not mixing anything up. If you can link me to where he says he has a light grip pressure to promote a fluid and smooth swing (which you can’t because it’s bullshit, he doesn’t say that), then I’ll give you the link to what he really says. But seeing as you can’t provide that, looks like you’ll miss out!
