Cameron warns leaving EU is a 'step into the dark' - BBC News

David Cameron tells Andrew Marr he has negotiated a deal worth staying in the EU for, so "why take a leap into the dark and leave".
People like Nigel Farage said Britain would never be able to negotiate out of "ever closer union" but he has secured it, he says. He also says the deal means "no more something for nothing", with the agreement to restrict child benefit for EU migrants - another thing he says others argued would never be possible.

+Huw Rees Music He has changed our relationship to some extent with the red card system but it depends on how often that'll be used, the whole migration thing is a compromise I think, Cameron did want 13 years but we got 7 which is the same for other western countries. But the EU has agreed to extend it to 13 years if we stay in. We might not have got what we or what Cameron wanted but at least we got something.

+Dodgy Dez I would say people are more concerned rather than scaremongering, true we would have more options in trade like Switzerland for example or we could have a free trade agreement with the EU. But Switzerland still has to abide by many EU rules and have to pay to access the single market, Negotiating a trade agreement could take years and if you completely break away then we could rely on the WTO but exports would still be subject to EU tariffs and production standards. Really this is all speculation and hypothetical the only way to find out for sure is to vote out but if we do and it all goes to shit, I bet its a lot easier getting out than it is getting back in.

"Staying in a reformed European Union"? What reform? He could not get any significant concessions. As long as UK is subject to the European Court of Justice, the EU can overturn any policy made in UK, including immigration matters. And we pay more to the EU than we get out? That alone is a reason to leave and keep all our wealth here!

+Jake Levi Then he goes and gives 3 examples of things that would mean we're not sovereign if we leave, which actually wouldn't mean we're not sovereign. 1. The power to help businesses in Europe. 2. Insist European countries share border information on criminals. 3. Repeal a ban from Europe on one of our industries. None of those mean we wouldn't be a sovereign country. Sovereignty is the ability of a governing body to govern itself without any interference from outside sources or bodies. Right now we're not sovereign, if we left the EU we would be.

I dont have a passport and he talks about giving more jobs.... what bs. I have just been on job seekers and 90% of the jobs going went to other people with passports... so foreigners were getting put forward for jobs instead of a British citizen as they actually had passports. (utter bs) And all the job centre would offer me was jobs at freaking Mc Donalds... All those years of studying was worth it! And when I turned it down they threatened to stop my job seekers and from getting access to job seekers for up to three years! And another thing that annoyed me is a majority of the staff at my job centre were not English and you can see them being nice to the people from their countries but as soon as you sit down they treat you like crap. Also what about homes for British citizens? Rent around my area for a one bedroom is between £800-£900 a month..... for you to be able to live on your own in my area you have to be lucky enough to get a 20k+ job. ..... but immigrants get given a house or apartment on council rates. (£400-£500 a month or sometimes free!) This country treats British citizens like crap and always puts immigrants first, so I am voting out so British citizens will come first always in their own freaking country.

Анастасия Матвеева I haven't had a passport since I shared with my mum when I was a kid. Though I was meant to buy a new one (and would have prioritised it if I knew it was that important) but before I was on job seekers I had a temp job and I saved up some money for a passport and so I could finish my driving lessons too (as I was planning a long overdue holiday) but unfortunately around two weeks after I left my temp job my dad had a stroke so I had to use my money that I saved to stay at home and buy things that my dad needed and also so I could care for my dad too but when my dad started to get a little better thats when I went on job seekers and found out about this passport malarkey. ....I think I have to really consider getting out of London.

@Zauchi
@Zauchi 8 жыл бұрын
Анастасия Матвеева I dunno why... I will look into it myself tomorrow as I quit job seekers as it was disheartening going there. I would rather starve and struggle then go back. I do have original birth certificates with where I was born in this country and I did have a dbs form from my temp job but they said they didn't want either as it wasn't proof like a passport. (confused?... yes so was I) I just got the impression that they wanted to get rid of me and off job seekers so they could give the good jobs to their fellow countrymen. Though they started to become unhelpful after I was on job seekers for a month and I had to wait for one of my interviews for over an hour. When I got to sit down the advisor said that they were short on staff, so I said that "you could employ me" but that was a mistake because all I got was a dirty look, silence for a few seconds, then the advisor changed the subject. I felt very awkward during that and the few weeks after every time I would go in I would be spoken to as if I was an idiot. ...but yes I will definitely ring my local citizen advice centre tomorrow and see what can be done about it. Its good you said that cause I didn't have a clue there may be some help available.

I'm not convinced that leaving the EU is the best thing for the economy. It's still in a fragile state and is still recovering from the recession and leaving the EU would expose far too many vulnerabilities. The leave voters don't appear to have any comprehension of international economics and demonstrate this very well by dismissing any valid economic argument or concern as "project fear" rather than coming up with any sensible counter argument. As for sovereignty, what kind of "sovereign" country can we be when can't even put in enough money in industry, defence, counter terrorism and basic public welfare as a result of crumbling economy? So simply for the sake of our economy, it is much better to stay. we can still be sovereign and in the EU

There are many much smaller countries than the UK in the world (Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, and many others) doing extremely well on their own creating wealth, improving the standard of living of their people, and made them proud of who they are, without being dragged along by a declining imperialistic regulation bound Union which is slowly dying because it is too undemocratic, and too German dominated. The Germans are very good at manufacturing things but not much good at promoting the interests of the non German parts of the Union. The EU is dying a slow but inevitable death.
