My dad lived with a French family for a year or so. One night they were having steak, and his French father (not his biological father, but the father of the French family) walked inside, crying, holding a platter of medium-rare steak. I wonder if Flammarion's cyanogen scare is where Conan Doyle got the idea for "The Poison Belt"?

Sad thing nobody mentioned that Flammarion is also a very well known book editor in France (possibly outside it too ?). I don't know if it's named after him or someone else but it might very well be.
