This woman is an artist with words and one of the most creative, yet reasoned minds of anybody out there. The term intellectual is such a maligned and overrated term. She is one of the very few people for whom the word is earned and apropos. She never spouts cliches or says what she thinks people want to hear. She never just follows the trendy ideas of the day. She leads the way and charts her own course with every idea she has.

I really enjoy her intellect and the way she challanges the left wing "herd" mentality (which I can fall into as easily as most of my compatriots). Camille is a gift, too often refused by those who prefer to hear only the opinions with which they agree.

I don't agree with her re: gay parenting. I think it's universal that every child will 'come-of-age' and understand their circumstances. I don't think having two dads or two mothers (in the context of a loving home) is that traumatic on the scale of trauma in the home. It just isn't. Meanwhile, I think she seems as if she's going through a rough personal time - which doesn't diminish her ideas at all. But I think a part of her charm is that she's so open, honest and sweet. I hope everything works out for her.

I adore Paglia, but she's a complete hypocrite on the two mommies thing. Umm... you and your lesbian partner are raising a child... that means the kid has two mommies... Mom Camille (a female) and Mom Allison (a female). Is she saying that one of the women must always take a distant, butch, father role?
@alphonsecarter2826
@alphonsecarter2826 10 жыл бұрын
Her point about gay male relationships vs gay female relationships. women say men cant commit or they are not good at romantic relationships. that is far from the case when you look at the 2 extremes. if gay marriage becomes common place I believe gay men will have the lowest divorce rate followed by hetero marriages then lesbian marriages will have the highest divorce rate. And her point about men and the more spiritual connection is dead on. Women will never experience that, their connections seem to be more primal and instinctual.
@greywinters4801
@greywinters4801 7 жыл бұрын
Women file for divorce at a far greater rate then men. 80% of divorce is initiated by the women. Think about it, todays women are almost never happy. Do re mi mi mi mi mi mi
@keysersoze4322
@keysersoze4322 6 жыл бұрын
WHat the fuck are you all talking about. Everyones' relationships are different - how the do y'all know what "spiritual connections" people have with each other and how strong they are? How can you even judge that. Yes there are biological differences between men and women so gay relations between each will be affected by that - but as far as I'm aware you're not a neuroscientist that has studied that. What's less primal and instinctual and more spiritual about two men fucking compared to two women fucking? Please, tell me. I know there are stereotypes that lesbians rush into relationships and gay men have more casual sex and most stereotypes are founded on truth. But there's really no difference if the end point is the same - a deeply sexual and spiritual bond with a partner. What does it matter if one got there through sex with meaning and the other got there through sex without meaning? It's almost as if there's some sorta special kudos for gay men for being emotionally unavailable right up until they find "the one" and that that must mean their relationship is extra special.

Camille Paglia has inspired many responses in me over the years, but this is the first time I've just felt kind of embarrassed for her. What, she's going to give up all the dignity and authority of her latter years to go carry someone else's bongos at Carneval? Doing a little Death in Venice turn, are we? Oh, for cryin' out loud, you want spark, go rub a balloon on your head. Why not just admit that we're not young forever and getting a chin job and running off to Brazil ain't gonna fix that?

@AndrewKo1218 Well if she feels that the traditional family structure of mother and father is the optimal environment for a child, then does she consider her own situation sub-optimal? And why is she cynical about the motivations of other same-sex couples? Were her and her ex's motivations so perfectly selfless? I still think she's being a hypocrite. It would be like Madonna saying, "Most celebrities who adopt foreign children do so to satisfy their own egos."
@urganodevotaton
@urganodevotaton 14 жыл бұрын
@AndrewKo1218 She says "I always opposed the Heather has two mommies idea" right at the beginning of the clip. If a couple wants to spare their child some teasing by not mutually taking the mother title then fine. But curtailing one's motherliness, or trying to be secondary or only fatherly (or whatever she actually means) when they're both inclined to be like the mother is a disservice: a parent not being herself & not giving what she is most disposed to give.

Don't feel you have to attach an idea or concept to a person. Ideas, proposals, propositions, concepts can be discussed on their own merit and don't have to be justified by being labeled with the person saying it. If you can understand that then you can understand the things Camille talks about. She truly is the most tolerant and nurturing intellectual in America and would kick my ass for saying that. Americas lesbian big sister.

Actually you're the one who is reacting to what you've been told to think about human nature, and her honest evaluation, from her experience as a gay person, or her perception, is what is grating you. It comes from out the box you've been taught to live in, and so you attack the person because you cannot stand their message.

I don't know how she was ever seen as the voice of modern feminism, as a lesbian she could not possibly understand the intricacies of male/female relationships. As 'right' as she is her 'platform' seems to be about not going back but instead into the realm of men's' rights. Folks are so brainwashed the other way she can't just say what she really want/means.
