When Rob Zombie toured with them he posted a pic and said basically “these girls rock harder than you” and got backlash from trolls and responded “out of all the groups I’ve toured with these girls and their band work harder, rock harder than anyone else, fuck your opinions if you haven’t heard them, you don’t get it” and my respect for Rob grew higher.

There was an online meltdown when they performed with Rob Halford from Judas Priest. Legend after legend were heaping praise on Babymetal, and idiots were treating it as though they were being betrayed by their idols, and it was the death of rock. It was ironic that in the tale of a group called Babymetal, that certain metalheads were the ones who needed to grow up.

Music videos are cool but where BM really shines is their live performances. You can check out a live version of Megitsune from more recent times to see how the song has changed as the ladies have grown up. For newbies, can't go wrong with Road of Resistance and the new song Metali. You can find professionally produced videos and right now, they're touring the US so you'll see a ton of fan vids, too.

Babymetal are actually mostly the project of a guy called Kobametal. Not a lot is known about him other than the fact he's a heavy metal enthusiast who works for Amuse Inc. I think the band often refers to him as "The Fox God" in interviews. Although they're "manufactured" and have been trained professionally, Suzuka has recently started to write songs for the band and the fact that Suzuka and Moa have been in the band for over a decade shows they are dedicated and love what they do.

Welcome back to the Foxhole 🦊🤘🔥 This is a quintessential BM song and when you know the meaning behind the lyrics like you already did at the end, you'll see is a song any girl and woman can feel related. If you wanna see something more new then another song that recently came out and got this same Japanese elements is the brand new collab song with guitar legend Tom Morello called METALI!! (is written in Japanese but that's the translation). It's the song that settled the Fox God lore behind because megitsune means "vixen" (female fox) and kitsune means "fox" and here they're saying they're megitsune as a way to empower women. It's a hit they don't wanna leave behind in any of their setlist like currently at The Babyklok Tour in the US. Btw what you heard in the breakdown are pig squeals along with a traditional Japanese festival song called Sakura Sakura. Funny you mentioned about Evanescence, they recently performed at Summer Sonic Festival in Osaka right before BM when closing the show, and they finally took a pic together.❤ Thanks for sharing this and hope to see you next time with more BM songs.🦊🤘🔥

Great reaction, thanks and welcome back. This music video was released in June 2013 so it's previous to the "Gimme Chocolate" video. They were 15 and 13 here. No it wasn't their idea, they were chosen by the Fox God to fight the power of the evil pop idols who ruled the world and save the metal genre. No, really, it's their lore. 😁 The whole thing was the idea of one man, Key Kobayashi, music producer and huge metal fan. He got this crazy idea and thought that Suzuka would be perfect to front a metal band when he saw her performing with her forming girl band, she was 11 years old. He was producing for Amuse's Kids Division and got the opportunity to make it real. And he did it, not without sone reluctance from the company (as another sub-unit with no extra budget, having to borrow costumes, etc.). But it worked pretty well and in 2013 they split from their main group (Sakura Gakuin) when Suzuka graduated (aka had to leave the group at the age of 15). It's a very unusual and complicated story and I suggest you and everyone who want to know if more in detail to watch a guide. CrypticMisery and Omajination channels have some great guides. 🤘🦊

Great reaction and welcome back. 'Megitsune' often tops fan polls for their favourite song - it is always right up there among or top of my own personal favourites (but that can change depending on my mood - or which song I am listening to). It is also arguably the song that showcases better than most what BABYMETAL are about and one that truly reflects their Japanese culture the best starting with the traditional instruments (shamisen or koto, you decide which) in the intro and the lyrics about women being compared to foxes (kitsune - which also explains all the fox masks in the video) which, in Japanese mythology, are able to shape shift and take human form in order to deceive. It is also a bit of a push back against the traditional female role in Japanese society I think - or maybe it is - whilst also praising and celebrating the women who have played that role over the years for their strength. They are saying that women wearing their make up and hiding their true feelings ("crying at heart, smiling at face") are not trying to deceive anybody, they are simply trying to please everybody - so they are not kitsune (foxes), they are megitsune (female foxes or vixens) - and they are strong. The melody used in the breakdown with the pig squeals in the middle of the song (screams and growls are not the girls, for the most part they are anonymous) is from the very well known Japanese folk song called 'Sakura Sakura' (Cherry Blossoms). When Su pulled out the tanto (short blade) from her microphone (she does a high kick in the live) she said "Otome wa ... nametara ikan zeyo." (Maidens ... shouldn't be underestimated). The last part of this is a famous quote from a Japanese gangster movie said by the daughter of a gang boss. Much of the official video was shot on location at the Asagaya Shinmei Shrine in Tokyo. This has become a place of pilgrimage for BABYMETAL fans visiting Tokyo. The guys at the back waving the traditional instruments about were dancers with the lady who did the fan dance's troupe. No it wasn't their own idea - it was all down to their metalhead producer Kobametal and he formed the whole concept around Su-metal's vocal talents and stage presence adding Yuimetal and Moametal to support her - and to introduce the choreographed dance element to the metal world. It may not have been their own idea, but they bought into it completely - especially after watching Metallica from side stage for the first time. Sadly Yui left the band in 2018 for health reasons after a 12 month absence, but Su and Moa have now devoted more than half their lives so far to BABYMETAL - they were 12 and 11 when it started, they are 25 and 24 now. They have a new third member as of 1st April this year - Momoko or Momometal, she is only 20. She was supporting Su and Moa as a dancer since 2019. Kobametal is still the man at the reins, but is has become increasingly clear that the girls have a big say in what they do and how they do it.

5:25 no it's not 😂 they had no idea what metal is, and even admited they find metal "scrary" and "what the heck is this" at first. It's their producer - Kei Kobayashi, a mad man with a vision for something different, he saw the talent of Su-metal - she has vocal quality to withstand a full blown metal band, it would be wasted if she just doing J-pop, so he created Babymetal as a side project of the idol group he's working on... Then it turned out much bigger than anyone expected. But at this point I can say they grew up with Metal music now, 13 years being in Babymetal, more than half of their lives

Glad you came back for the girls and this time with one my favorites songs 🦊 You listened to Gimme Chocolate and Megitsune which are songs from the first album (Babymetal) so I will drop some suggestion in a timeline: 1. Road of Resistance (album 02 - Metal Resistance) 2. Awadama Fever (Metal Resistance - and this song is a response to some haters that said they sounded a bubble gum pop 😤) I love the breakdown on this song 3. Pa Pa Ya! (Album 03 - Metal Galaxy) 4. BxMxC (Metal Galaxy too) 5. Mirror Mirror (album 04 - The Other One) 6. Believing (The Other One too) 7. Metali feat. Tom Morello (a single and the newest one)

Metali, their newest song, is basically a spiritual successor to Megitsune. That is what you should do next. They are now in their 20s, it has Tom Morello from Rage Against the Machine, and is the kind of song made to be played live. Do it. If you at all liked Megitsune you will love Metali. (If you can find a live version of good quality, do that, because its a whole different animal live) Also, just so you know from now, the E at the end of Megitsune is not silent. Its me gi tsu ne

Another song Karate is absolutely GORGEOUS live. I just adore Su's live vocals so much, she has such power

Idk why but I feel like you'd also enjoy the songs by Wagakki Band, another band that combines traditional Japanese sounds with modern music - and they tend to lean towards rock, though mayhaps not quite metal. Either way, I think you'd like them! Their most known song is called Senbonzakura and it's a good place to start! (They are hard to find, but a yt channel called avex has it up(I think it's the label?), and the title of the video is " 和楽器バンド / 千本桜 " ) They also have captions!

This is the first Babymetal I stumbled on. I had that same reaction you had for Gimme Chocolate. "Whoa! This band melts my face with how hard the go but then they start to sing. What is happening? This shouldn't work." The other part is, "Shut up brain. This songs kicks so much ass... Just go with it because it is awesome!"

This was actually released in mid-2013, before the Gimme Chocolate video. At the time the video was released, Moa and Yui were both 13 (about to turn 14), and Su was 15.

OMG the amount of misinformation being given in the other comments is astounding. No, the girls didn't come up with this. In fact they had no idea what metal was. Kei Kobayashi is the mastermind behind this project. A producer for the Amuse talent agency in Japan, he introduced metal to the girls and focused on Suzuka Nakamoto's powerful vocals at such a young age. Their first release was in 2010 called Doki Doki Morning and was recorded when they were 13 and 11. Megitsune was recorded when Su was 15 and the other girls were barely 13. The traditional theme of the song is again repeated in their newest song METALI . And no, this is not them screaming. Wanna see what they're like now? Hmmm, that's gonna be tough to narrow down. We could go traditional with some punkish metal with Metali, it we could go full on postProg metal with Believing. Or something with a touch of global influence with traditional sounds from around the world like say Matalizm or Shanti Shanti Shanti. Or maybe see what Su's writing skills are like in Divine Attack, or the beautiful Monochrome. All of which I suggest you watch live concert footage of. Live Babymetal is Best Babymetal. They're on tour now in the US!! Make an effort to see them for yourself!! They're doing two concerts in two days in LA!!!

Since you love this song you have to do Metali next. It is Megitsune 2.0. Metali is so good. FYI Megitsune is the song most played. It has everything that Babymetal is about almost like an anthem. But this song is female empowerment.

"Headbangeeeerrrr!!!!" "GJ." "Pa Pa Ya." "Karate." The most recent, "Ratatata." "Doki Doki Morning" was the first sone they recorded (when Su was 12 and Moa and Yui were 10 or 11). "Monochrome" from their most recent album. There is so much more.

I recommend headbanger - the live performance of the moametal version is amazing for the crowd participation and we also get more of moa's singing and su's dancing. Babymetal death at the Legend 1997 concert is like out of this world metal theatrics. Ijime dame zettai (idz) at sonisphere is also a great one - most of the crowd at that festival had no idea who they were and those that did thought theyd hate them but they won over the crowd.

Please please go check out the live recordings. From a similar era to those you have seen the Legend shows especially Headbanger will give you a sense of the epic stages and visual theatre their shows bring. Then you can move on through their progression. Possibly Road of Resistance from the Saitama Super Arena (2015). The three girls were chosen from an incredibly young age by a zen like figure named Kobametal. Suzuka even at 12 had an immensely powerful voice. That kind of timbre required to punch through the sonic wall a heavy band produces. They have little influence on the songwriting especially at that time but did write a few lyrics

Hate to burst your bubble a bit but the girls didn't come up with this (I mean they were like 11-13 when babymetal became a thing so it would be pretty crazy to come up with something like this at that age) Their producer (Key Kobayashi who is a long time metalhead himself) had this crazy idea to mix up J-pop idols and heavymetal to make babymetal a thing. The girls have lyric credits for couple of their songs (Song 4 and Divine Attack) but like 95% of their songs are made by a team of music writers. Eventhough the girls don't write their songs they are most certainly the stars of the show and they give 110% in every single performance they do and are obviously REALLY talented singers and dancers. As far as next reaction I would recommend song called Monochrome from their newest album called the OTHER ONE (released about 6 months ago). And especially this live version kzfaq.info/get/bejne/aMiBopp9nK-Xj6M.html of the song since it's pretty much universally accepted fact that babymetal is way better live than just their studio stuff.

Yup, not sure who was saying they come up with it. I believe the girls didn't even know what metal was when they got recruited from another pop band (can't remember which it was) into Baby Metal. However, as time has gone by the girls REALLY got into and love metal now. Which is kinda crazy that these girls ended up in a metal band, having no clue what it was, but now they all love and have a passion for metal.

@@jessirarara these ladies always had a passion to perform (even in the early days they didn't really know metal that well) and it shines through in every performance and it was important for example when performing in the west to capture audiences.

@@jessirarara The "other pop band" was called Sakura Gakuin. And the girls really didn't get recruited from it. BABYMETAL was a subgroup of SG for a couple of years and then branched out when babymetal got more popular.

As many have pointed out, it was not their idea. The girls were 11 and 12 years old when they formed Babymetal and they didn't even know what metal was. They make that very clear on at least one interview. That is the beauty of it though. They weren't filled with any pre-conceived ideas of what metal is supposed to be. They were like empty slates who learned the art of metal music from associating directly with the best metal bands in the business. It is not the girls doing any of the screams or growls. They are pop singers. It's not usually their role to do the hardcore vocals. Well, Momo recorded a nice growl for their most recent song, Metali, but its playback during live concerts. I would recommend you react to Metali by the way.

Also if you want to see the show they had the day after the lead singers (Su-metal) birthday then I recommend anything from the Legend Of 1997 concert like headbanger, Ava maria (which leads into a headbanger remix, kimito anime ga mitai, akatski unfinished, megitune, doki doki morning

I have waited a long time, a long time, for you to come back to BabyMetal. Now that you have watched a couple of official videos it is time for live BabyMetal which is on a totally different level. What Metallica saw them live they said there were astonished. Here are some suggestions: 1. HeadBanger-Legend of 1997 (this refers to the lead singer Su, she was born in 19997 and is the legend). A stunning live performance in which the audience will totally changee your thinking about crowds. 2. Road of Resistance Live In Japan - Their epic live performance. almost 9 minutes of total awesomeness. You might be crying at the end or have goosebumps. 3. Pa Pa Ya feat. F. Hero - All grown up and stunning and put on an outlandish performance.

There's TONS of stuff to check out. Side note- I just saw them in concert in Cleveland on the BabyKlok tour, and it was one of the best shows I've ever been to. They included this song in their set. It was awesome. Babymetal live: Amore, Headbanger!!, "Ijime, Dame, Zettai", Atatsuki, Road of Resistance, Tales of the Destinies, etc. Welcome back, btw.
