These videos are little gems that I tend to watch at least twice and I often watch them in portions to make them last longer, in a way. You have a rare quality that I think is called screen presence. Wise words about leaving dead wood for the little, but very important bugs!

My family is from North Norway and I lived in Norway 14 years and we eat WHALE. My favourite meal is cod tongue. I have been lucky to learn the old ways in Norway. From reindeer heart to smalahova and from lutefisk to pinekjøtt, we eat it all. I am actually Norwegian, British and Australian. Luck me :-)

Gosh Sandy, heard you sigh with relief been able to breathe normally once those beautiful deer passed. What a treat, cooking a tasty stew, a chance meeting with a pal with the most amazing Harris hawk, each day is a blessed and wondrous day, you choose to spend them and share them with us who would love to do the same but for different reasons are unable, so thank you so much. It won't be long before you go in search for a spring tonic, birch:-) keep well, happy and healthy.

Great video & leave no trace. Too many folk getting into camping & bushcraft who do not appreciate nature & all its wonders. In Scotland we have the right to wild camp, but with people leaving rubbish & having massive fires & scarring woodlands everywhere I fear we will lose this right. Keep up excellent work & I still hope to get one of Ur fine tools one day, ATB fae Aberdeen

Wiltshire Man - I’m still mostly landscaping. I got in more of the sweet chestnut posts in today and will shortly be getting the wires up and getting the fan trained fruit trees in place. I ordered the wood for the raise beds today. Hopefully start getting some seeds planted soon, onions seed can go in now.

rhialobran - If you have access to a very large trailer and want to bring a load to me, that would be great 👍🏻. Once I have built my raised beds they need to be filled and I am looking for top soil. Mushroom compost would also be good to help break down the clay. If I could seriously get the top soil from you to me with no cost just time and effort, I would.

Looks very tasty Sandy. I'm glad you talked about using to much dead wood in are woodland. My Son and I over the last three years or so have found are little patch has had weekend warriors coming in having a massive fire like it's November 5th. We now find we need to bring wood in so we have fuel to cook. It's not just us that is suffering but more importantly the small bugs that depend on that dead wood and then the nick on effect to the larger animals that depend on them for food. We all hold a small part in the eco system. Great video mate,my Son said could we go and cook tomorrow's chicken in the Dutch oven in the back garden. So chicken casserole for tea.

Nice one Sandy, always enjoy your solo trips to the wood. What with this video and Spring on the way it is giving me itchy feet to be away on my motorcycle once more doing a few nights wild camping. For my birthday my wife bought me one of those Firebox stoves you have featured from time to time. I'll do a video and post it up on my channel sometime. Great to see the deer too; living on the southern edge of Colchester I mostly see muntjac locally.

A native American saying (I think I heard from Ray Mears programs): The Indian makes a small fire, sits close and it keeps him warm. White men make a big fire and sit far away. Then keep warm by chopping firewood.

What a lovely day out! Thanks for sharing that Sandy. I've stopped watching a number of channels now which have videos of folks burning massive piles of wood. Totally agree with you regarding keeping fires small to preserve the woodland as a habitat. I try to use camping gas or the little Lixada woodgas stove for that reason. I despair when I see you-tubers cutting up piles of wood for massive fires that are not needed most of the time.

Have you ever done a video on the way you put that shelter up ? A previous comment was correct, it's a Danish Army shelter sheet in M-84 Camo, they can be found mint or grade 1 on E-Bay for approx. 90 Euros ! that 1 stake of metal works better than a tripod!! very clever piece of kit may purloin one!! i liked the way that you kept all of your ingredients clean by using the chopping food prep board! then the use of the jacklore just sprung it all back into the dirt for ya!! that was very astute of you to record all 4 roe deer so soon after seeing them!! have you got a go pro hanging off either arm now!! these days!? they move so gracefully i just learnt a technique the other day called deer walking when you move through forests a bit like a deer its a way of noticing far more instead of speed hiking through you did well for them not to sniff or see you standing there sandy and get to film it well done! its moments like that that often go unrecorded harry the hawk seems intent on killing something afore the day is out probably his owner!! :)
