You two are awesome! I will have to subscribe to Julie's channel. I think I would go nuts over how much agate is there. The big red and orange fire agate was to die for. Thanks for sharing the fun.

Those were some absolutely cool rocks and that seam you found of fire, was just amazing! and it was a solid chunk, unlike most of the smaller thin pieces you were finding. But they were all amazing!! what an amazing time and great fun to be had was that? Thank you for sharing!

My favorite agate is Indonesian moss agate. And some of those pieces remind me of it! I had no idea we had anything like that with those colors and the clarity together. That is the closest thing I have seen to I.m.a. Great finds.

I live in Flagstaff and have been wondering where I could go to find nice agate. Thought so would have to travel to Kingman or Tonapah. But .... Camp Verde???? So close!! Can you help me with some hints of location?
@RocksForBrains

There lots of good agate country in the national forest area south of Camp Verde. You just need to be careful of where you are since there’s a bunch of private claims out there. You can contact Brian and Julie with AZ Rockhound Expeditions and pay a little to go out on their claim. Primo quality stuff out there. 😊

Great presentations! May I ask what is the bright yellow mineral you were found at the Camp Verde area ? I looked up the mine in Mindat web site but was not sure what it might be identified as- Tom

I recently moved to Prescott. I never really got into geology and rock hounding ( I lived in Florida most of my life. Calcite crystals, buckchoidals, and fossils are about the extent of what there is to find). Since I've been out here I immediately fell in love with all the different minerals and the formations those minerals create. I've found quartz crystal clusters abound with mineral specimens attached, white, clear, and shades of brown bockchoidal chalcedony plates, and large pieces of clear to milky( what I'm told is)opal. I haven't ventured out from around the Prescott and PV areas but would really like to visit Camp Verde since it's fairly close to where I'm at. Is there any chance you would be willing to point me in the right general direction? I'd rather not know specifically. I enjoy the hikes, discovery, and hunt for treasure. Keep rocking on and I look forward to your upcoming posts.

I think in general if you go up into the hills south of the salt mine in USFS land you’ll find stuff. Just be cautious of not going into anyones claims out there. 😋

I’m not sure it has a name to be honest. We were following the group so I doubt I could find my way out there on my own without directions lol. I know it was southwest of the Camp Verde salt mine in the hills somewhere near Rodeo Flats. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Oh Yes ma'am I do it all the time, I just don't find much. I'm in South Georgia ughhh 😞 and South Georgia here where I'm at we don't have to many Gemstones; BUT at least I can find ARROWHEADS and Gorgeous Arrowheads by the way I've found a PRETTY TIGER'S EYE STONE AMETHYST EMERALD QUARTZ ROSE QUARTZ FLINT, AND ARROWHEADS AT LEAST. 👍😃 🖐 ♥️ ♥️

Pretty rocks often make good stone tools. The more dense the quartz crystals the better the material. 😊

Anyone have specific directions to rockhounding or fossil sites in Camp Verde?
@RocksForBrains
@RocksForBrains Жыл бұрын
Don’t know about fossil sites but depending on what you’re looking for there’s a lot of good ground in the national forest south of salt mine rd. Just be careful you’re not out on someone’s claim.

How can you not tell the difference if it's a vein or if it's tailings on top of the ground there must be obvious difference.
@RocksForBrains
@RocksForBrains 9 ай бұрын
Not sure I understand the question. If you’re in an area where you know there has been hand mining, but also lots of erosion, the pieces on the ground might not be in piles but scattered. Unless you can easily see the source of the pieces inside nearby host rock it may not be obvious.
