So I am a new player to the game I started out with a brute an spellweaver on a solo campaign I'm doing the game on deadly and it's pretty tough can't get passed scenario 1 I've tried so many times I'm already level 5 for both mercenaries do you think it's possible to beat scenario 1 on deadly with my mercenary choice?

I have a couple of questions if you could clarify for me please ? 1) so is there no point in enhancing cards like in guild master ? If you lose these enhancements on retirement, do you get the money back? 2) do you keep the items you put on retired mercenaries? Or are they lost? If so must you unequip items before retiring them? 3) once all classes are unlocked, do you still retire mercs? If so what is the point of retiring them by then?

1) no there is absolutely still enhancements that are very powerful and will be very useful to have. You just need to pick what’s more useful items or enhancements. Any gold a character has is lost on retirement. 2) all items on a retired mercenary are returned to the shop automatically when you retire 3) Yes you would still retire, you would be unlocking a random side mission, item design, and increasing prosperity. You would also get extra perks if the generation increases. Campaign does have an end though so you might not want to keep replaying old missions to do this.

Just got this today. I hadn't even heard of the Tabletop game TBH (My Tabletop experience is basically 40k and Old School Warhammer, Bloodbowl, Mordheim etc. basically all GW stuff) I bought it as the classes look unique. You don't often get to play Xenos looking races with Humans together (and I think there might only be one human class anyway?) also the way it works based on cards is quite novel (despite card based games on PC are 10 a penny now, this looks different) The difficulty doesn't really bother me as i am used to playing hard games. Still wouldn't mind some guidance, so hopefully I can learn something here. I was told to start in the Guildmaster mode, before diving into the campaign. Would you advise this as well? I will be playing solo to start with. I was also told to start with 2 characters, but wouldn't it be easier if I take more of them?

Yea guildmaster has an easier run in and introduction to the game IMO. Once you understand the core mechanics you can switch over to the campaign mode.

A quick question about enhancements in the campaign mode. I noticed that enhancing to add a wild element to a card costs 50% more than adding a specific element. What exactly is a "wild element"? Does it imply the nature of the added element is -random-? Random does NOT sound like a good thing so if it is what I think it is, why would it cost more than a specific element?

You get to choose which element you want each time you play it. Its very good on characters who use lots of different elements as you get the flexibility. Wild isn't a very good word to use as it implies its random and its definitely not :)

@MandatoryQuest Do you still play Gloomhaven? You already made a video about general pairings of mercenaries, but those were only for the six starting classes. I would love to see an in-depth video from you that's specifically geared for Eclipse + (Any Mercenary) pair, and their viability at Deadly difficulty level. For instance, how practical would it for Eclipse to run with a Quartermaster (damage build) or a Scoundrel at the highest difficulty level? I am already running a duo team (Eclipse + Sunkeeper), but I am looking for a suitable replacement for the Sunkeeper, preferably a mercenary with a LOT more offense than defense.

I still play Gloomhaven 3 times a week on Twitch. The problem with Eclipse + anything is that they need to either have lots of invisibility themselves or tank alone. If you want to stop playing Sun then I would suggest Mindthief. She can output a ton of damage, go invis, stun and makes dark and ice.

I don't really agree with your matrix for the Tinkerer for a 2-player combo. It's quite difficult for only 2 players as the Tinkerer lacks damage in such a small group.

I disagree even if target numbers are lower your 12 card hand gives you the flexibility to burn the high damage cards such as net shooter, ink bomb, and flamethrower without worrying about max value. You also have enhancement field, toxic bolt, hook gun, reviving shock, stun shot all not amazing attacks sure but are also useful control and utility actions. Yes your damage is tied pretty heavily to those burns but with 12 cards and decent health it’s a very forgiving character that can go longer than most others.

Hello, I have tried the first scenario with a tinkerer and the mind theif. I can get to the last room and I run out of cards? I need some help. I think I am right but it looks like Burned cards can never be retrieved until end of Scenario, and discards can be refreshed at a cost of a card. I am going to try with 3 character (Tank or Craigheart) but I found that the game gets harder with more characters. Also I can't do Normai. I will try on Easy....any tips would help. I do find I am not using alot of move cards (bottom half) an so these are getting discarded and I have to rest to get them back.

How is the Gloomhaven Digital Tutorial vs getting the new Jaws of the Lion DLC that's available May 17th?

The Jaws DLC will not be adding the Jaws physical tutorial or changing the digital tutorial. Physical Jaws is still the best way to learn the game IMO.

There will be DLC but Frosthaven I think would have to be a complete new version as its so big. The developers have mentioned they would like to do some digital exclusive brand new character DLC, but I also wouldn't be surprised if JoTL characters are maybe added too. I doubt we see the actual story content of JoTL or the Forgotten Circles scenarios though.

I bought Jaws of the lion as a step into Gloomhaven. I know they are making a DLC Jaws of the Lion coming in May. Should I buy this and then the DLC and start with Jaws of the lion and then move on to Gloomhaven w/o the DLC? I am only on scenario 7 or so in JotL

Well the Jaws DLC wil integrate into the main Gloomhaven campaign. This gives you the option to play Jaws characters in the main campaign and vice versa. You can also switch between any available missions at the time, so you could do a Jaws mission, then a campaign one, then a Jaws one. It's going to be very easy to switch between the two.

@MandatoryQuest. In the campaign will we be able to play locked out scenarios (because we chose to complete one scenario that locks out the choice of the other, for example) in casual mode? I know this is an option in table top version.

Unfortunately not you would need to do another run through going the different options. You could however mod this in fairly easily, or i expect unlock them through the debug menu in sandbox mode.

I bought it and it seemed awesome but I had to uninstall it a couple of days later, as much as I wanted to play it, it was just far far too hard for me (even on easy!!) and that took all the fun out of the game, a real shame. I play for fun and enjoyment, not frustration.

I would highly recommend it yes. It’s a difficulty game to understand at first and anything he can do to prepare will help a lot.

On separate PC devices yes you would I think. There is a console port coming soon though and that will probably have couch co-op.

P.s. I noticed that when I start a campaign, it appears like a selectable check box on pooling gold/individual gold, but I can't seem to toggle it. I checked options but no luck. Am I missing something or is party gold mod I need to find?

Yes those three are my personal go to mercenaries for playing Insane difficulty. However when you play on lower difficulty you can swap the tinkerer out for anybody else really. Split gold is the normal rules for the campaign so pooled gold isn't available. its a toggle because you can toggle between the two on Guildmaster mode I believe.

I’m thinking of buying the physical version (jaws of the lion rather than full Gloomhaven) would you reccommend going 2x characters each for 2x players with this version too?

Depends, I’m actually playing Jaws with my GF and we are both controlling 1 mercenary as she is pretty new to Gloomhaven. If you feel confident to play 2 each then sure.

Hi! no announced plans for either of those two things. Frosthaven would be quite the undertaking and because its not even out in physical yet I think it would be quite a while before Digital was considered. I have my fingers crossed they do think about bringing the Jaws of the Lion characters over as a DLC though.

Didn't have time watch the whole video, sorry if it was mentioned: So, is the save game shared among my buddies so they might continue playing in case I don't have time for gamenight (assuming I started the campaign)?

Yes as long as you join the most up to date save. The game essentially downloads a copy of the save when you join, so if they were to join you again they would be joining your older save it that makes sense.

In Tabletop technically yes. A lot of players would sell all their gear back then enhance cards with the money and then roll that character again getting the enhancements. This is a bit of a cheesy loophole created by the physical sticker system. If you play digital you do not get to sell, but can use legacy enhancements if you choose in the variant options.

Yes! you each will need a copy but it is cross platform with Epic / GOG using the room codes.

No, retirement is a core mechanic of the game. Think of each of your retired characters as an individual cast members of the whole story. You can pick any class you want (that's unlocked in the pool) when retiring a character and making a new one, this includes the class you just retired. But the character will be different.

Guildmaster is great for doing that if your intention is to just mess around with characters. If it’s specifically campaign your after, then a simple mod could do that I would think, but like Leslie said above it’s a big part of the game your skipping out on.

Thanks for the great content - but two and a half minutes of introduction is waaaay too much... I watch mostly on TV and the app gives me no option to skip to the next chapter, so I have jump forward in 10sec steps and guess by closely watching the thumbnail on the timeline if the intro is over or not... =P But I guess you don't produce an intro to have it skipped, don't you?! ;-) So pleeeeease: keep it short and sweet to avoid teaching people like me to insta fast forward at the start your videos - would be much appreciated, thank you for your time.

That chart shows how unbalanced the characters are. One of the biggest weaknesses in the game is how you're forced to play a certain way although the game makes you believe you can play whatever you like

You are right in some respect, but I don't think that's 100% true. You will have more success with certain characters/comps especially at higher difficulties, but if you want to play more left field strats you can still have success at lower difficulties. Its all about finding the fun for you.
