Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet Belgrade reignited its playoffs challenge by outplaying Anadolu Efes Istanbul 94-75 on Wednesday. Zvezda improves to 12-15 and also claimed head to head advantage over Efes, which drops out of the playoffs places at 13-13.

Ataman is such a case to study. How can someone who is one of the biggest contributers to today's European basketball by mainly showing the example of Larkin-Micic-Simon trio could work in championship levels be such stubborn to look for an antithesis after Efes' unhidden "mistery" is solved. After one of the most dominant performance of all time in 2019 white season, he should have already started looking for solutions where Efes showed signs of getting stuck (Team still cannot do literally "anything" against switch defense for example, for fucking 3 years). He is very straightforward and simple thinker, which makes him special actually. But at the same time his trademark habits or his philosophical choices become his curse. Creating a more independent and simpler framework for the star players, keeping them as much as possible on the court, playing with maximum around 7-8 players in rotation, relying on players' skills rather than fancy ATOs... He is quite a pragmatic coach in summary in my eyes. You can like or dislike this approach but it made him a big winner lots of times in any level with any team, most of the times with really fun basketball to watch. But there are lots of dilemmas here. How can such a pragmatic coach cannot see the needs of the team before the beginning of the season. Roster creation is quite his expertise in my opinion. Always had very skillful guards, shooter bigs, almost everyone is capable of playing P&R... But after losing Singleton, Moerman, not being able to use Filip Petrusev, having Tibor and Dunston one years older & more injury prone, why not to add one more key big? I was very hopeful about Ante Zizic too, and actually he started to bring his game higher and higher everyday but Efes needed either a "Sertaç Şanlı" or "Jonathon Motley" kind of player very badly (even both actually) next to him. Having Micic and Larkin duo, behind them you have Buğrahan Tuncer & Erten Gazi. Buğrahan is a player who has the "potential" which never comes to high levels (only one game maybe for national team against France). He can win easy games for you in Turkish League but he cannot guard or even try to guard Campazzo nor any other guard in the Euroleague. Earlier Efes had the captain Doğuş Balbay for such cases. He is a decent ball handler, crazy athlete, extreme professional, such a pressure maker in defensive... Or parallel to this idea, Efes had James Anderson who was such a golden soldier. Not having any of these kind of soldiers neither as guard, forward nor a big makes things extremely difficult for Efes. Then comes the problem of trying to get the best out of "big 3", which I could never see happening. It is such a difficult job to handle this I am aware of it but Efes sucked at managing this and most of the games it turned into "ok now it is your turn Larkin, then Will then Micic it will come back to you" kind of playing style, and of course it failed. Countless games (probably 7 if I am not mistaken) are lost after Efes was leading in the last quarter or in clutch times, some of them with huge difference because the team lost its "killer" abilities. On top of that, since 2018 Efes was almost never a team which wins the games with hussle or physicality or emotional boost moments but this year team lacks of these departments big time. You cannot win games at ease in Euroleague, your are not 2019's Efes anymore. I think coach could never accept this fact. I feel so sad about this season as a big "supporter" of Efes even though I am not an Efes fan. This team means a lot for basketball lovers in Turkey, they were always the number one leader of basketball in Turkey, they forced whole country basketball to reach their higher potential (indirectly they are the creator of Obradovic Fenerbahçe), they were always managed in a promising way. The organization really deserved to be part of Euroleague history by having a great season and ending it with the "3peat" but starting from the devastation in Eurobasket after France-Turkey game, Ataman completely lost his calmness, winner insticts, ability to change, ability to shape the roster, and his killer pragmatic way of looking to basketball... I think they will be in playoffs anyways but they will pick up Olympiakos and that buzzer beater's revenge will be taken with a hard sweep I feel... I am more hopeful for the next season though. It was a tiring journey for Ataman & Efes, hopefully they agree to go apart, Ataman finds another challange for himself (Panathinaikos maybe? 0_o), and Efes bring someone like Trinchieri to create a killer team with Shane & Will duo even though Micic leaves.

Read the whole comment and i just wanna reply specifically where you talk about the top 8. Considering where we are now, Olympiacos, Real, Barca, Fener and Monaco will be the top 5 with Fener-Monaco or Monaco-Fener being the first play-offs matchup for me. At 6th place and if nothing drastically changes, Partizan will be there. Now we have 2 more places. Baskonia is nothing compared to last year and will for me stay where they are at 7th place or at best 6th and switch with Partizan. Efes has lost both games against Baskonia if i recall correctly so they cant win the tie against them. Also there are 3 other teams fighting for the 8th place at least. Zalgiris, Maccabi and Valencia and might even add Bologna and maybe Crvena Zvezda and Armani, tho the chances are low, still hope for a comeback. Efes has to go against 6 teams, either with their own chances, to finish at the top 8 and there is no way that none of these will not win a game, making the struggle for Efes even greater. Yesterday game was a MUST win for them, because they would be 3 wins ahead of Crvena Zvezda and would lower the chances of one of their competitors to join the top 8. In conclusion, i wouldnt be surprised if they finished 9th or 10th because of their inconsistency. Feel free to agree or disagree

@Konstantinos Chantzis Yeah definitely wouldn't be surprise. But their schedule is crowded with home games, that's the only thing they got now. I think tomorrow's Maccabi game just became the playoff or nothing game for Efes. If they win, they would somehow make the playoffs.

Olympiacos, Real, Barca, Fener and Monaco will probably be the top 5(not necessarily in that order), 6th and 7th go to Partizan and Baskonia and for 8th place there will be bloodshed since 4 teams (Efes, Zalgiris, Maccabi, Valencia) and 3 more who still hope but with lower chances (Bologna, Crvena Zvezda, Armani). Tbh Valencia has the most average chances out of all of them so they are somewhere in the middle. Edit: Check the reply👇

Just checked the results for possible ties for Efes: Partizan-Efes 82-79 Efes-Partizan 84-97 Efes-Baskonia 78-83 Baskonia-Efes 114-111 Efes-Valencia 91-92 Valencia-Efes 81-71 Maccabi-Efes 80-72 Efes-Maccabi 64-86 Zalgiris-Efes 60-86 Efes-Zalgiris 80-70 Efes- Crvena Zvezda 72-59 Crvena Zvezda-Efes 94-75 Bologna-Efes 80-85 Efes-Bologna (30/3) Armani-Efes 51-80 Efes-Armani (28/3) Efes win 3 ties and loses to 5 till now and the ones they win are against Bologna and Armani who both have the lower chances out of the rest teams. This is a reminder to some cocky Efes fans that the situation isnt so simple or easy. Edit: They have even lost both games against Bayern. So if we (Olympiacos) win today against Bayern, we do a favor to both ourselves and Efes. Either way, i dont believe Bayern are able to compete for the top 8 but you never know. Efes jeste bio oslabljen,tu nema sumnje,ipak su Micic i Larkin njihovi glavni igraci,ali mislim da ste odigrali dobru utakmicu i zasluzeno pobedili....cestitke...jos imate sanse za TOP 8... Ovaj Ataman je najodvratniji trener u Evropi...

Da pobedimo i mi nekog. Da smo ovako igrali protiv Nemaca drugacije bi tabela izgledala. Šta je tu je. Cestitke momcima. Pomenuo bi još i FER I SPORTSKI potez Klajburna u prvom poluvremenu. Kapa dole majstore. Efes ce po meni uci u top 8 jel imaju dobar raspored.

Efes ide u Top 8 bez problema a vrlo moguće i sa neke od pozicija 4,5 Igraju od kraja sve kući. Partizan i dalje nije najveći kandidat za top 8 ako sutra izgubi. Tu su Zalgiris, Makabi i Efes ozbiljni kandidati

Mnogo je bolje kad se zviždi na protivničku loptu, nego kad se peva pesma kao da je fudbal i tako daje ritam protivniku dok ima napad. Isto tako kad naši izvode slobodna, treba tišina da bude, a ne dranje i ometanje

the referees ran a terrible match. campazzo opened his arm three times and threw a layup. The second time, when Elijah Bryant reacted, the referees called a technical foul. In the third time, Ataman was ejected from the game. I have never seen such a bad referee management at euroleague level. Even in the nba, the attacker is not allowed this much to open his elbows and arms.

You obviously didn't watch our league then. Zvezda was wining championships with 4 steps in the last second lay up and no one even looked at it. If they are not privileged by the referees they think someone is stilling from them, all as the result of the goverment pressure. This was nothing beleive me

European refereeing is pathetic in general. Last FIBA competition was a total disaster, the refereeing level was unbelievably poor and now Euroleague follows. Something must be done. We want these blokes to keep the order of the game and apply the rules, NOT JUDGING/FIXING GAME RESULTS. No one has absolutely NO right to mess with the players/teams sweat, money and effort. A good referee is one who gets the least attention after a game.

@@maroni1132 It was 3 not 4 steps, it was bad decision by refs, but no one from your bench ask for review. You paid euroleague place this season and enjoy it, because on the court you ll never deserve it. You re close to f8 we are far away but your partizai brain is to frustraited of us. 1-3 this season 13th of March we go to 4. Zalices sto si navijao za Zvezdu veceras picko lazljiva!
