Cheech Marin is the little guy and the big one is Tommy Chong. They used to do skits on live TV sometimes or on the radio, and they released some of them as albums. They wouldn't let us listen to Cheech and Chong when I was a kid but of course we did anyway. They had some big hits such as Earache my Eye, Sister Mary Elephant and Blind Melon Chitlin'. They were always outrageous and funny as heck.

The song the band plays at the end was part of a larger work from one of their LPs called "Earache My Eye." It was part of the sketch (it's a record that a kid plays when he wakes up, and his old man is pissed off at him for trying to skip out on school with a supposed earache), and they carried it over into this movie several years later.

@nostradumbass79593 ай бұрын
a "lid" is the amount that will fit into the lid of the largest size mayonnaise jar.
@ll7868Ай бұрын
A lid is 4 fingers or roughly an ounce. Weed dealers measured in fingers the way you would order whiskey shots, by the finger. Dealers didn't weigh weed on scales back then, it was eyeballed, 1 finger was about an 8th or 3.5 grams, 2 fingers was a quarter ounce and 4 was a full ounce, nobody bought 3 fingers, it was just weird to ask for that amount. Anywho, buyers would eyeball it, not the dealer, 4 fingers would cover the surface of a whole lid and a flat hand high on one of those large coffee cans. They would keep pot in coffee cans because it masked the scent of the weed and a coffee can lid became the slang term for an ounce. Weighing it on a scale didn't become a thing until Hell's Angels took over weed production/distribution in their territories about the same time this movie was being made. My dad was recruited by the Satan's Angels in 1980 to grow weed and oversee a half dozen other grow ops around Vancouver, they became a Hell's Angels chapter in 1983, that's when my dad had to start weighing everything, always said that was the worst part of being a grower.

What does “Lid” mean? Common terminology used in the United States during the 1960s and 1970s to describe approximately an ounce of cannabis. While the origin of this term varies, many agree that it comes from the specific style of coffee cans used during the 1960s, the lids of which peeled off like sardine tins.

When I was in high school my buddy and I worked in a movie theater. Every show we would turn the volume down in the projection booth and one show I would be Cheech and he would be Chong. The next time we would switch parts. We knew every line in this movie. All we knew about the movie is there was a giant joint in it. We didn't know how big it was but in order to sell the movie we found a 4 ft imitation Christmas tree in the attic of the theater. We wrapped it into a huge joint and wrote Up In Smoke on it and walked back and forth in front of the place. It was February so it was cold as hell but it was fun anyway. A few fun things to know about this. 1. This is the only C&C movie NOT directed by Tommy Chong 2. The dog that stole the hotdog was a stray and not an actor 3 There was a scene when the guys are in jail, Harry Dean Stanton footage, but it was cut in editing.. 4. The entire time (in this movie) neither of them got loaded at all. But we did 4/20 5. In 1978 that giant joint, sans the dog shit, would have cost roughly $100 where I lived. Today it's only 10g for $100. 😭😭

Late to the party here, friend. If don't know, Chong worked as a guitarist for Motown before comedy. Micheal Jackson/Jackson 5's first concert was opening for Chong's band.😅 There's a good Joey Diaz Chong interview on here if can find that tells his story. Born in '71, & having discovered them in early '80's before computers, I, like most, never knew Chong was the mastermind. All their albums & movies, with exception of "Corsican Brothers" (they don't play themselves), are Comedy Gold & definitely worth a watch! So when i heard Chong was doing a solo set down the street at Zanies in Nashville in '93 I went not knowing what to expect, wondering how the hell he was gonna pull it off without Cheech? Well, all I can say, & all this for those in the know as well, is it was better than the re-union tour i caught at the legendary Ryman Auditorium with Cheech. Believe it or not! He was still "old" Chong. Had black hair & beard. For Cheech's parts he'd just pick random audience members since we all knew them. For FiFi bit (you'll hopefully react to some day😅), he picked a hot chick. It was PERFECTION!!! 🤗💕 Then, the best part, he broke out his guitar & brought the house down with us, the audience, singing Cheech's parts, including "Alice Bowie's"😅 "Earache My Eye", as experienced here, & "Up In Smoke" of course! Anyway, quite a few up & comers also got their start in C&C joints, including Pee Wee Herman. As far as anything newer I've seen that comes close to C&C stoner comedy as an old dude, it would be Dave Chappelle's "Half Baked". If haven't seen, it's a STONER MASTERPIECE! See ya! 🌥 😎👌
