On 10th May 2024, our sun unleashed on to the earth the most powerful solar storm in two decades. Caused by recent solar flares, multi-coloured aurora borealis lit up the sky across the globe. I found myself camped out on a hill that night, completely by chance, to experience the most surreal & beautiful night out of my life :) 💚💙💜

‘To feel, to care, sometimes too much’ - this was the sense I got watching the lights on a beach not far from where you were. It was completely overwhelming and in a weird way seemed to amplify my feelings about some of the awful things happening in the world. It was however unbelievably beautiful and an emotional experience to see something so rare and incredible on my doorstep. I can’t imagine how intense that was for you alone and unaware of what was happening.

Clair, it was the universe that was in perfect sync, because your trip took place during the exact period of one of the strongest solar eruptions ever recorded. A record amount of solar mass was expelled and was directed exactly toward our planet Earth. Our planet resisted and you witnessed a so unique event in the history of Earth. I thank you immensely and my eyes filled with water looking at your photos and video. I live in a city located on the Tropic of Capricorn and we were not lucky enough to witness this event. From this Brazilian follower, I wish that God continues to bless you and take care that you always return safely to your family. Stay safe, happy, and enlightened with the blessings of the universe and God. Thank you very, very much for sharing this special moment.

I managed to catch this when it happened, but watching your video still made me tear up. I noticed it happening just after a bath, so I ran outside in my dressing gown and wet hair to watch it all. My neighbour down the road was stopping cars to tell them to get out and look, so I joined her. We were two harpies screeching with joy about the beauty of the world. Most of the people we stopped were also in their pajamas, making their way to the hills so they could enjoy the sight. I felt so connected to all the other humans on this little island and this video brought it all back.

Hi Claire, I just wanted to say thank you for your fantastic videos, you do not know me but I am ex-army and did a lot of things in my time in the forces especially along the lines of outdoor pursuits and so on. I love nature and being out in extremes and had the fortunate opportunity to travel the world putting skills into practice in different environments. But shortly after leaving the forces I became unwell both physically and mentally. I also suffered a stroke around 4 years ago which has left me damaged and with limited capabilities which include walking. I am now classed as disabled and for a long time I beat myself up as when I attempted to do things, I compared myself how I used to be and gave up doing stuff. Leading to more depression and low self-esteem. However, things have now changed now for me and I see the positive in things (as you say it’s only a plan that changes and that isn’t a fail and positivity can be found by just being out there) I am now reliving my passion by adapting, and that is with thanks to yourself and others. I hope you do not mind but I created my own channel and did a video of which I have used a few clips of you from your videos to promote you and for others to see where I got my inspiration from and my channel is based on being outdoors, camping and so on while living with limitations, so I hope you do not mind me doing this and should it be a problem please let me know and of course I will respect your wishes. My channel if you wish to watch the video is at kzfaq.info/love/nvGYskLr2oOWBA06ggbKlQ and so far, the only video on my channel but I have plans to make a lot more. As you see I am an amateur when it comes to producing videos LOL but I will learn over time. Thank you for inspiring me through your channel and please keep up the fantastic work.

The recent (and significant) solar storm made the northern lights and the southern hemisphere equivalents something extraordinary this time round. They were visible from most parts of the world. Many of us might not see the likes of these again. May I come and sit with you, on your hill, next time round? 😇 😃 Here in the southern hemisphere (Australia) we had our own version - they call it Aurora Australis - it was equally magnificent and I had the pleasure of observing from a remote and isolated place on top of a hill too. Just magnificent.

The USA is in general much better to watch them then Europe. The geomagentical pole is not situated at the north pole. If you live north of 40 degrees in the USA you are in a better position than we in Europe at 50 degrees. People in states like Minnesota, Montana and North Dakota see these displays I think at least once or twice per year.

Experienced the Northern Lights in the Scottish highlands Friday night also. I’d never seen anything like it before either, the whole sky was illuminated with blends of reds, purples, greens and moved so quickly like a cosmic waterfall. Just stood for ages staring up at the night sky, and watching the changing shapes. It was so bright, even the ground was reflecting all the colours. @@nsean479 Melbourne might not seem like a good place to watch them, but in reality it is not far worse than central Wales. The geomagentic poles are not situated on the geographical one. This means that New Zealnd en the USA are in a much better position to see them than people in Wales are. And Melbourne enjoys this advantage too to a lesser extend.

Magic is happening all over our skies at the moment. We had Australia / Southern Borealis active in Tasmania and MELBOURNE Australia 🇦🇺 last week. It was SO RARE, a once in a lifetime for a city. Everyone went to the beaches to see it if they could as it was not hindered by city light. It was brilliant Pinks, Greens, ribbon formations, and then the lights dancing across the sky. Lasted quite a while too. So humbling. Plenty of pictures if anyone wants to check it out. ❤❤❤

I wasn’t expecting it - I just went out to lock the garage before going to bed, saw an unusual whitish glow so got my phone to take a picture, and wow! I saw what you saw. So beautiful. I thought of Psalm 19 "The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork." 😊

That was my experience of seeing the northern lights here in the Scottish Borders last year too. I'd heard and seen footage that the sky turns green and purple etc but all we saw with the naked eye was gradually moving vertical curtains of what looked like misty cloud. People put wonderful colourful pictures on the local facebook page of that night and I read that not everyone sees the colours without looking through a much more sensitive camera lens that brings out the colours. I didn't bother looking out on Saturday night but a lad told us on Sunday morning that he saw faint colours in the sky from his remote hillside home.

Hi, we’re in Australia. My son (7) was asking about the Northern lights and I remembered this video. He was blown away! I explained how they shouldn’t have been where you were camping. Such a beautiful video catching an unexpected spectacle. Your reactions were so great. The footage you captured here is truly spectacular. Very moving stuff. Thank you for capturing this amazing moment in time.

This same event happened to me in 2013 while I was solo camping in South Central Utah. I crawled into my little tent about 10pm, opened my eyes a few moments later and the sky exploded with color that lasted 3 hours. I sat there awestruck and also wanted someone to share it with, but i too was out of cellphone range. Most incredible experience of my night as well.

This is the first time that I really understood that many people have never or rarely seen the Northern Lights, whereas for me in northern Minnesota (USA) they appear multiple times a week in the summer. Regardless of how often they appear, they are simply majestic, and never fail to thrill..

What an amazing experience being able to experience the fear and awe in the same way our ancestors might have felt when seeing something like this and not having any way of knowing what was going on. So glad you were filming that day and set up where you did. The shots you captured are magnificent!

Hi Claire. I’m an expat living in Sydney and saw all the posts from everyone back home about this. Looks like you got ringside seats ! No better place to be than in the hills away from light pollution. I’m pretty jealous but so happy you managed to get such great images and thank you for sharing them with us. Does make you question the powers of the sun and shows that we are just tiny specs observing such phenomena.

Fate guided you to a front row light show courtesy of Mother Nature. 🥹 I got choked up, Claire. So breathtaking. There was too much light pollution here to catch it, but by God, you caught it right by the tail. Thank you so much for this remarkable footage. ❤️

They were amazing weren't they? I get alerts from an app, but ive had 100+ alerts over the years and not seen much at all - then blammo! We were giddy like children at Christmas, it was just fantastic seeing them in their full glory. We're exactly the opposite side from beautiful Wales in Lincolnshire but had the same experience. Breathtaking.

Thank you for such a beautiful video. I wasn't aware of this event happening until my daughter had called us and told us to go out and watch this. The next day she showed us her pictures, and pictures that some of her friends in Tennessee and Wisconsin had sent her. I could hardly believe the pictures. So beautiful. But seeing them on video as the lights changed colors and moved across the sky was something else. Glad you were in a place where you could witness, record, and share this.
