Your video was so much better than the instructions that I think Coleman-Mach should include a link to this video on the outside of the box or somewhere. I had mine upgraded and it only took me about an hour. There was a slight drop off in the noise level but what really helped that was blocking off about half of the evaporator array using a piece of aluminum diamond tread. It doesn't seem to starve the fan and really slows down the volume of air so reduces the noise. And now that it's cycling on and off I believe I can hang on to what little hearing I have left......Thank you so much!!!

Awesome video. On a trip now and it’s been 95 to 100 in south Ga. Really tired of waking up as a campercicle… I’m one of te few that like the noise, we sleep with white noise machines so it’s perfect. Going to install the heat strip assembly when I retrofit this one…

Nice Video. Doing this upgrade this afternoon. I wired around the main switch to make the thermostat switch the fan on and off on the original unit but found the thermostat to be very inconsistent when the weather got warmer. Decided to spend the money and am hoping this upgrade fixes the problem for good. Thanks for the overview of the App and everything. Makes me feel much better about my purchase.
@firesideweekenders
@firesideweekenders 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you. I am glad that the video helped. The thermostat keeps things consistent. The only thing I have noticed is that because the temperature sensor is so close to the air being discharged, you have to set the temperature a lot lower to get the RV cooled to the real temperature. Hope this makes sense.
@mattyork4646

@@firesideweekenders Makes perfect sense. I did the install and noticed the same thing. The thermostat may read 65 but actual temperature would be closer to 70. I do like the unit though, being able to control the fan is worth the upgrade.

Question for you.. First off great video and nice work. Can you set it so the fan stays running, in between the AC cycling? I don’t like to go from noise to no noise and frogs chirping and then go back to noise. My preference would be let the fan run all night while the AC cycles quietly in the background. Thanks.

Great video. I installed 120v relay for $10 and have same sequence of operation with the fan cycling on and off. Still using knobs to set temperature. Only issue I have is the swing in temperature due to thermostat with sensing bulb that they use. My question to you. Does this upgrade with digital thermostat keeping constant temperature especially at night? Not too hot and then when unit comes on over cooling
@firesideweekenders

It works just like the thermostat at home. So obviously there is a little overcooling/heating as designed but nothing major. Just like a normal AC would operate.

@firesideweekenders
@firesideweekenders Жыл бұрын
low refrigerant, or a refrigerant leak. It can also happen due to dirty coils, a broken fan, faulty wiring, or clogged air filters. These are the different types of reason that would normally cause it but I have seen that with camper AC units, this happens to a lot of people in real hot temperatures because it runs too much. I don’t know for sure but I do think installing this faceplate will help because it will completely turn off the unit when it reaches temperature. The space of this camper is t that big so it shouldn’t run a lot.
@RJMachine62
@RJMachine62 Жыл бұрын
The new control and relay box also has the freeze sensor that goes in the coils, and if you had the old rotary manual thermostat, they don't have that and they're horrible about icing up. They only had a capillary tube that sensed air temp going back in the return.

You ever have an issue with the thermostat saying it’s cooler than it is? Mine will say 70… I’ll make it come in at 69…. It will turn in and cool it down to 68…. Then it will get warm and the thermostat still says 68 so I’ll have to bump it down to 67 and that’s an endless cycle of until I put the temp to say 70 again and let it warm up.. before stating the cool down ladder again. wondering if anyone has any ideas
@firesideweekenders

I think it may be caused by where the thermostat is located. We usually have to turn it 5 degrees difference than from what we actually want it to be.

Hey riccardo. So even though it has an integrated thermostat, does it actually output anything different then the (full on/full off). In other words does the output change or vary? Make less noise? Or does it just turn on by itself and go on its max output until it reaches your desired temp?

@firesideweekenders
@firesideweekenders 3 жыл бұрын
I can’t say definitely if it will prevent it because we have only used it 4-5 times. But I do think it can certainly prevent it more times than not because of the reason you mentioned. Obviously the hotter it is the more likely it will happen but we just camped in 90 degree weather and it kept the inside cool very nicely and didn’t run 24/6.

It should prevent that if you try to maintain a delta-T of 20 degrees. Very difficult with the dial on the stock one. Problem is when it’s 100 degrees and folks crank the AC to all cold it can freeze up the unit. If it’s 100 degrees in, 80 is about the best you can get without risking a freeze up.
