marshall ekleberry true. They are stealthier but attacks on humans are exceedingly rare and most of the people they’ve killed were kids. I can stand my ground with a mountain lion or black bear. Not with a grizzly. Bear spray is highly effective but I’d rather have a gun on me at all times. I’m way more afraid of Grizzly but both can easily kill me. I put a cobra up there with a grizzly too (anything highly venomous or poisonous).

For anyone interested, I read up on some folklore involving horse demons/wendigos, and there IS actually a creature that comes very close to resembling this monster in a lot of ways. The Tikbalang is a legend from the Philippines that has the head and rear legs of a horse that is capable of shape shifting in some instances, and often takes the form of a traveler or a person's friend, so that it can lure them into the woods and devour them. The chilling part is that, in many descriptions, its' legs are described to be so long, its' knees reach above its' ears when it sits on its' haunches.

It's always the little extra sfx that really put your stories above the rest. Like the sudden growl at 8:31 over the narration that really makes it feel it was happening in the moment. @@dart.115 The human brain is exceptionally good at pattern recognition and storage. A mere glimpse of something's silhouette can give you a lot of information on the creature. At the time it happens especially hopped on on fear and adrenaline it might not quite register but if you go back over your memory of the incident not long after it occurs, you can recall the details a lot better and doing so helps you to cement them into long-term memory.

This is not the first narration of yours that I've listened to, but this is one of the longer ones- and I'm completely hooked! I love the detail- along with the ambient music and sound effects- given as the lone camper headed for what would be his last foray into sleeping outdoors. It felt like a short film or a horror story reminiscent of old school Stephen King mixed with Jaws. The pacing kept me on edge- and every time the music kicked in, along with the guttural growl, I felt the peril and panic of the camper, even if I wasn't in the woods but in the safety of my own room. The descriptions , along with the sounds it made (especially when it eviscerated the coyote) and the knowledge that its very presence snuffs out all possible means of illumination (save the sun) -provided much nightmare fuel for this fertile mind, effectively ensuring I NEVER go camping alone- or ever. Initially, I assumed it was a curious being who wanted to share in the warmth of the fire and even its "food". However, the bloodied boot destroyed said illusions. Still, it was clearly intelligent, as it seemed to challenge the lone camper, even giving him two warnings in the shape of the aforementioned boot and the carcass. Thankfully, he survived to tell the tale- and while he doesn't mention what it is, most of us are fully aware why he remained mum. Let's hope he put enough distance away from said entity- and that there aren't any more like them in his new area.

Great story. I love it when there is a logic to the horror, however strange or alien. The fear here came from the knowledge this was a test of will and cunning, patience and desperation. The protagonist immediately realized when something was wrong, carefully considered the situation however inexplicable, and acted rationally. Really amazing delivery and sound work, understated, but I could see everything in my mind's eye.
