I am BLOWN AWAY by Cascade Locks and the Columbia River Gorge!
As mentioned, I never planned on making a video about this area, but it was just so stunning, I couldn’t resist! Here are all of the places I discussed and what I was able to squeeze in during my short stay:
1:00 Port of Cascade Locks Campground
2:25 Pacific Crest Trail
2:54 Portland, OR
3:03 Washington Park Rose Garden
3:16 Historic Columbia River Gorge Highway
3:31 Crown Point / Vista House
3:49 Horsetail Falls
3:56 Latourell Falls Hike
5:10 Multnomah Falls
5:40 Columbia Gorge Sternwheeler
6:03 Thunder Island Brewing Co
6:14 The Bridge of the Gods
6:38 Thunder Island
6:53 Beacon Rock Trail
7:35 Hood River / Wind Surfing
8:00 Mt Hood Winery
8:23 The Dalles, OR
This was my last stop before settling in my new spot for a summer contract in Washington State! What an amazing place to end my journey.
I spent 6 weeks traveling from CA to WA and stayed with 3 Harvest Hosts and 2 Boondockers Welcome Hosts. I can’t say enough good things about my experience with this company! Not only were my stays SAFE and comfortable, but I got to meet some amazing people and fellow RV’ers along the way! I even got to feed and sleep next to some Alpacas! Welcome to the Pacific Northwest and our beautiful Columbia River Gorge. Sometimes those of us who live here forget what a magical place it is. Thanks for the reminder and the lovely pictures of the gorge.

Even 30 years isn't enough, although the rainy winters sometimes get a little old. However that's what the green stuff needs. I like how you can just be driving along and go around a bend and suddenly there is a postcard view. With the light amount of smoke we are getting from BC right now the sunsets and sunrises are unbelievable

Wow, absolutely stunning scenery, and you do a beautiful job showing it to us--you really have a gift for videography, as it feels like I am watching something professionally produced on Travel Channel or Nat Geo. Well done! I have 2 rescue dogs, so seeing you and Rue having so much fun hiking and exploring the various areas is priceless--I have to say, though, Rue is 10 times braver than me when hiking near the edge of some of those drop offs. Not sure I'd take my two on those kinds of hikes (although we've done plenty of mountain hiking), as I have a feeling they'd plan to "accidentally" send me flying over the side of one of those cliffs to pay me back for not giving them as many treats as they'd like to have! Anyway, safe travels and I look forward to the next one.

The Cascade Mountain Range was named because of the huge number of cascading streams. (water falls). I live in Central Oregon Cascades. I could spend a life time exploring and never see everything. Once again Keep up the good work.

I’m new to your channel, but I have really enjoyed your content. I really admire your courage to live this new lifestyle. It makes me a little jealous. You should feel proud to be strong enough to do what most aren’t willing to do. I’m looking forward to your adventures ahead. Maybe you can bring your Airstream to the Great Smoky Mountains one day.

Sarah, I’ve lived in NW Oregon my whole life & have always thought Cascade Locks was a place to drive through to get to the other side of the state! You made it come alive! I’ve hiked in the gorge but never did the hikes you did or driven on that scenic part of the highway where you passed all the waterfalls. In fact I’m kind of confused about the whole thing. I’ve never driven up to Vista House. Only been to the gift shop at Multnomah Falls & crossed BotG on the way home from Leavenworth WA. I highly recommend visiting there. Touristy, but fun, and am sure there must be camping/boondocking nearby. Anyway, I just never knew there was so much to do in Cascade Locks!! Amazing footage you got!! Can’t believe you weren’t going to do a video!! A+ on videography & content!! You go girl!! Thanks! ♥️

I'd never heard it called Thunder Island before, but I was out there with the camera 8-10 years ago and there was the most amazing lightning storm. I must've seen a dozen lightning hits on the peaks above Cascade Locks in those 45 minutes. Dark boiling clouds, loud booming thunder...it was awesome!

Hi Sarah! I live in Hood River and work for the US Forest Service and I am so glad this video bubbled up on my feed. So interesting that I drove to Portland this afternoon and came back this evening and took a detour on the Historic Columbia River Hwy (Exit 28-35 which is considered the waterfall corridor). I made a stop at Oneonta Gorge to take some pics and the sun was setting when I got there. I was treated to an unexpected surprise which appeared to be a bald eagle family--the parents training their fledged babies...they seemed to be practicing flying from one tree to another. Anyway, it made me so happy! I pinch myself every day, especially when driving around and I always really enjoy those trains...not sure if your viewers know we have them going back and forth on both sides of the Columbia River. Glad you had a great experience - and you're right! There is SO much more to explore...you'll definitely need to hit the Gifford Pinchot Forest to the north and the Mt Hood to the south. Hit me up if you want any recommendations. BTW, I'm obsessed with Airstreams. Safe travels to you and your sweet dog.

Welcome back to Oregon. We often boon dock just west of John Day Dam. If the wind is blowing the area is full of windsurfers. We have found them to be very friendly. We would park back from the river so to have a great view of the river and windsurfers. The only advice I would give is to make sure you park east to west. The winds that make windsurfing so popular and be a little unnerving in a travel trailer. We spend a lot of time exploring Central and Eastern Oregon. Check out Alvord Desert. The best night skies I have ever seen were there. Keep up the good work an enjoy life.

It is the freedom that RVs offer that excites me the most. While being able and willing to dry camp/boondock increases the ability to pretty much stop where you wish. You've caught the bug for sure, Sarah! Looking forward to your next video.

Cool channel and always great to see another new RVer joining the fold. Either people are into figuring out the details of the RVing lifestyle or they aren’t and you clearly are! Couple minor items on your setup- put a cheap pressure regulator on your black tank flush hose (I regularly dump at a sewage treatment plant dump station and it has high pressure water) and if you are thinking about a generator, Honda has a new 3200 watt fuel injected 59 pound model, the EU3200i. This has the power to start your air conditioner. That’s quite a drop in weight, I’ve got their 12 year old 3000 watt EU3000is and it weighs 134 lbs.

I would highly recommend a harness for your puppy because it could save their life someday. I don't want to say I have stupid dogs with my Bichons but they have done some stupid things and if it wasn't for their harness over a collar they would have slipped it and died! Just saying even if there was a big old dog all bent out of shape and in attack mode it would give you more to grab onto with your puppy at the very least to pull them to safety. Lord forbid, there is also a little stun gun my husband just came home with that packs a whollip that he will take on the dogs walk with him. As you just never know with some dogs, or a cougar or worst-case scenario, a bear. I do not want to ever think of my dog losing his life over trying to protect me from a bear! I love your videos thank you.
