"This park has something for everyone. The trails take visitors around wet lowlands, oak savanna, and grasslands. Albert Lea Lake and park marshes draw hundreds of waterfowl during migration. Oak savanna and prairie landscape, including wetlands, dominate most of the park. One of the more unique aspects of the park is the 116-acre Big Island, covered with maple/basswood forest. Another is the glacial esker located in the northeast section of the park." - www.dnr.state....
We decided to make the short drive to Myre-Big Island State Park in Minnesota for a quick camping weekend. We took this trip at the end of July and it was already starting to get dark sooner, especially in the woods of this park. It was a little sad because we knew our camping season was coming to an end quickly.
This was a very relaxing park. Plenty of trails to explore, a lake that we didn't go in because it was green, and nice remodeled sites. The bathroom was also remodeled recently. Actually, when we were at this park last year, it was under construction. This lake would be perfect if you had a canoe or kayak.
