I use a hoopless bivvy in which I have my thermarest and my sleeping bag. I have a strapped pillow so it doesn't move. Underneath, I have a bottom tarp, with a roll mat and then I do various things with my top tarp - usually A line, but also tarp tents with and without doors, depending on the weather. I use a summer sleeping bag in summer and a ridiculously warm sleeping bag in winter, but the bivvy keeps the heat in as well. In summer I use Smidge and a head bug net. No bites from anything. And I always use a black out blind fold and soft ear plugs. I have a Cloud Peak 2 tent, I just prefer tarps.

A little pillow trick I do is fold any excess clothes inside a jacket zip it up so it is nice and padded and then tie the sleeves under the inflatable mat Great vid!

Good advice there Andy. I would add it's worth investing it's a good quality eyemask rather than a cheap one. I totally agree about staying somewhere you can really relax like Dartmoor or the lakes. Peace of mind makes all the difference! Nice one as usual.

Some good tips here Andy… decent sleep pad and bag… in a well pitched tent for the conditions… add a wee dram or 2 of whiskey, with a good meal after a good walk…..and Bob’s yer uncle / Fanny’s yer Aunt….! Cheers Mark

To add to your final point, if wild camping where you shouldn't be, do your best to find a place to pitch where you are confident that no one will see you. I sleep much better the more hidden or difficult I am to find

From experience I agree with all these tips. I have one to add....don't pitch right near flowing water. It will be on your mind all night if that water is going to rise when it rains and you will hear the water flowing and crashing on rocks all night and you will hear it in the ground like a constant rumbling. Again, learned from experience.

I upgraded this year from a thick foam mat to an inflatable insulated sleeping pad. I could not believe how much better it was both comfort and warmth. Sounds obvious, but I’ve been camping with foam mats for 40 years and didn’t realise that there as such a better way of doing it.

Good tip to insulate your tent even more is to get a foil picnic mat rolled up wieghs nothing and really keeps the warmth in aswell as protection for your ground sheet 😊👌

@@BackpackingUK We have this cute little campground just a few hours away, they offer wooden decks for tents right next to the Atlantic ocean, my favourite spot for a night away. BTW, I’m living in Nova Scotia. Just started camping last year, and in 2 weeks I will go for my first wild camp trip, we have a lot of crown land where you are allowed to camp.
