I run the same way in my Suburban. Inside it's 50" wide 8' long to the back of the front seats. Always ready no setup/breakdown rooftop tent in bad weather. No folding up wet and unfold at home so it will dry. Plenty of room for two...and 3K in my pocket not buying a RTT. Nice start 👍

I really like the simplicity of this setup, especially for a quick overnighter. No tent to mess with, no wet stuff to dry out, etc. Also loving the color of the jeep like someone else mentioned. Can't wait for the new mods and announcements 😀

Nice, simple set up. I run the same way sleeping in the back of my 2015 JKU. I use a Coleman single height air mattress from Walmart. Cost me around $35.00 and has lasted me for over 3 years now. Recently did a Death Valley trip, wind gusts at night were +40 mph. I slept soundly the whole night, my buddies in RTT and ground tents had a rough night with their tents flapping in the wind. Looking forward to more adventures.

this is why i bought a wrangler instead of a gladiator or any other pickup truck. Im a light sleeper and i can't sleep with the tent flapping, their are hard wall roof top tents out there but they are not cheap.

I do a ton of SAR’s work which requires me to use a Jeep JLU as a daily driver. I use your Deep Sleep Solo Mat, Trench Cover & Screens. I pack it under a Tuffy Deluxe Security Deck along with a Dometic GO Jug, Titian Deep Freeze 36L Cooler, eShower Popup bathroom and my loaded backpack which has three days of long shelf life food in a Little Sami Bear Canister. I keep a Nemo chair under the 40% of the rear seat I don’t fold down and I put a Goose Gear Tailgate Table on the Jeep for meal prep and to use as a map desk. With this set up all I have to do on my way to a call out is get gas, ice and fill the water jug. Yet during my daily commute it just looks like an unpacked Jeep if anyone looks in as I hang nothing on the outside. I too use OnX Off Road and eventually I need to add a dual battery system, on board air and the Long Range America Aux Gas Tank; again items that increase the Jeep’s SARS capabilities but will go unnoticed when parked after my daily commute or at a remote Trailhead. This also preserves the Jeep’s ability to carry me and four passengers. While I love the tricked out full “Overlander” look with a lift, larger tires, RTT etc. all that attracts attention and everyone I know who has a vehicle like that has to constantly be on guard for theft or stuff falling off. I get ribbed that my vehicle looks like something a “Soccer Mom” would drive but my stock 2022 Willys Sport with the 6sp manual gets me constantly out to rescues of supposedly far more capable vehicles. And once there I’m fully capable of camping for 60hrs which is a normal evolution. I’m way closer to 70 than 60 and I tell folks all the time - “We’re out here to help folks, we’re not an army invading Colorado!”

Sounds very logical to me! I definitely want to build up the jeep to make it as efficient as how you have built up yours. I already am getting a few ideas from your post 🙏. The slight difference on my build is that there are plans to go on some more technical rock crawling trails, so I would have to eventually upgrade the suspension and tires to ensure capability . 👍🙌

We sleep in the back of our Rubicon JKU when camping. The one thing we have to change to keep warm is to use a foam mattress instead of an air mattress. It is super cold with the air pocket.

I go w an air mattress (space) yet drop a wool blanket as a barrier. I will put on one top or bottom (typically) Wool blankets pack down easily over a larger mattress and are more adaptable. Ur eating MRE’s… why? I have a weeks worth always.

I run a similar set up in my JKUR because I like to get up and go. For added storage, I used the Milwaukee pack out system with the mounting bracket. Keeps everything contained and not bouncing around when on the trail. I also have a shelf towards the rear of the rig for additional storage.

The vegetable cracker makes a nice coaster. 🙂 I'm a bit more set up, but not much... I have the Trailgater tailgate table.(A MUST HAVE..I just got mine..pricy, but a Big help), 45q Setpower fridge, the same jackery as you. Jetboil stove and jetboil. and that's about it. All that stuff fits in the front, so there is still room for 2 to sleep inside. Also, I have the Rhino roof rack if we bring a tent. Oh, I also bring a small rug so I can keep sand or dirt out of the Jeep

When I was in the army the saying was Kiss keep it simple stupid you never know when you have to pack up and leave in a hurry. Enjoy it with your family while you can because there will come a day when your body gets a little wore out and you can't do as much as you used to. I enjoy watching your videos and thinking about the good times in the past. The nice thing about your setup is bad weather really won't bother you much and if you get in a tough situation where you leave in a hurry there will be no problems.

Looks like you had door nets to get air flow into the jeep without bugs, how did that work out? Also, if not planning a rooftop tent, I would suggest you get a RucRak instead for outboard storage. Roof racks are expensive not only for initial cost, but ongoing as well due to the 2 to 3 mpg hit you take. Adding onto the back doesn’t really impact mpg and only impacts usable departure angle in the most extreme rock crawling situations when deployed (but it can impact it). Anyway, thought you might want to check it out. I have one and find it really useful.

Oh that’s a very different purpose that you plan to use your Jeep for than I use mine. I responded before watching your full channel. I’m doing what I nick named “jeepacking”. I’m using the Jeep to augment NPS Mules to get my gear in closer to where I’m starting to backpack in the rest of the way. I at times utilize the Jeep’s 4WD capabilities during bad weather on rural or dirt forest service roads to bring supplies in or rotate searchers out but my Jeep is a “tool of my trade”; and I’m not wheeling with it for fun. Going back fifty years to when I was in the Army Jeep’s were always a utility platform for work. LOL, when I want to be outside having fun I play golf!

@1:13 of your entry into the sand, you passed up a free flag whip. I started going to Sand Lake with my ATV's and baja back in 1992 and over the years I have collected dozens of these flag whips. Broken , fully intact and everything in between. They come in handy for folks that show up for the weekend and clearly forgot or did even know they needed one. I provided them for free. Haven't been to Sand Lake in several years since I got into kayak fishing in the ocean. I need to get my Taco out there for some camping.

P.S. I forgot to mention that having the Tuffy Security Deck allows me to stack all the gear I carry under it on top of it at night so I can slide the sleeping mat & bag out fully. I place my backpack on the 40% of the rear seat I don’t food down. That allows me to sleep off the ground and in the morning there is no camp breakdown. Not in actuality is there any camp set up as many times if I know I’ll be getting to camp late I roll out the sleep system, leave some gear under 1/2 the deck and/or seat belt it into the non-folded rear ssst or on to the passenger seat. I the leave my boots off and just head out in driving moccasins so once I get there I don’t even have to get out if the weather is bad. Just climb between the front seats, slide into bed with an empty Gator Aid bottle for latter and deal with the reality of the situation in the morning!

Their are 1000s of jeep channel out their but very few full size pickup trucks 🛻 overlanding channels. I follow you because of your great content on full size overlanding mods and adventures.. Thanks for the feedback, Stanford. I intend to incorporate the Ram substantially into the channel content. The jeep once built up to specs of what I would like to make it, will be more for crawling type of content, and the Ram will occupy more of the overlanding type. I do hope that you'll stick around for those videos, but if you cannot, I completely understand. Cheers man, I appreciate you
