The Wainwrights Coast to Coast path begins in St Bees in Cumbria, then runs across the country through the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors National Parks, ending in the coastal village of Robin Hoods Bay in North Yorkshire. It's a journey just shy of 200 miles.
Abbie set out to walk and wild camp the trail in June, completing it in just under 11 days through a searing summer heatwave that hit the UK. It made for scenic walking through mountains and forests, across fields and dales, and along moors and coastal cliffs. Along the way they courageously shares the challenge of managing their ongoing mental ill health whilst on the trail, openly revealing the highs and lows that made the walk more than just a hike across the country - it became a journey of discovery, healing and perspective. A walk, they say, will forever hold close to their heart.

Did this walk 8 years ago and have some wonderful memories of it and watching this ( the best walking video I’ve ever seen of the C to C) I’ve decided that , nearing 70, it’s time I got my boots out again for another challenge. Your journey has been an absolute pleasure to watch and enjoy. Thank you Phil

Abbie, just watched this as I'm planning my trip in May 2020. Saw you getting upset early in the trip and it's nothing strange or unique. I do a lot of solo wildcamping and often turn in to a blubbering mess when I'm in the wild. It's a place to think, contemplate, miss people, and generally let off steam. The views often make you feel like a spec of dust on this planet as they put things into perspective. Waves of panic often come from being alone in a big often inhospitable place. Just remember it's normal, good for you and in most cases (in the UK) you're never "that" far from civilisation. Your video also shows you were emotional on day 2 and the penultimate day. Thinking about the mammoth task ahead and then the mammoth achievement you'd made? Keep it up Abbie, your awesome.

I want to come from Australia and do the Yorkshire Wolds Way and Cleveland Way in one go and totally alone. Why? I need to be alone and in my own thoughts but it scares me because I'm afraid I will panic and not like my thoughts. It's a compulsion to do it and I just need to try. I think you are fabulous. Hi Abbie, What a wonderful video of this great walk. I completed the walk back in July this year and thoroughly enjoyed it. I think it is admirable of you to be so honest with your viewers about mental health. Many suffer in silence! I camped right at the top of lining cragg and also Angle tarn in the lake district. I also got lost at Knott but soon got back on track! Another walk which you may or may not be aware of and one that I completed recently is the d'Arcy Dalton way. It runs from South Warwickshire and ends at Waylands Smithy on the Ridgeway. Passes through outstanding countryside, Hamlets, Villages and Churches. I really enjoyed it. It was created in memory of d'Arcy Dalton who was responsible for fighting for keeping rights of way, footpaths and bridleways open for the general public to enjoy. Sandy

Coming down off High Street a few years ago I met a C to C walker who had done just the same as you Abbie. He’d missed the turn for Kidsty Pike and asked me how to get there. I walked and chatted with him and put him on the correct path. So Abbie you are not alone.

I don't think there's such a thing as 'mental health'. The mind is the problem. And peace comes when the mind is quiet. What troubles us is the incessant thinking and the busy imagination. Freedom is freedom from worry and being present. There is no such thing as 'peace of mind' because the mind is by nature turbulent. You love the outdoors because it helps to free you from all that mental bondage. There are moments of pushback but they pass and you get stronger. Well done Abbie.

Coast to Coast 2008 - 15 days. Physically and mentally exhausting. I had to 'wild-camp' a few nights and I didn't really appreciate any of it until I got home vowing to never do something like it again !! After a day's rest, I was itching to be back out there again. I would love to do it again someday and really take in the beauty of my surroundings rather than seeing them as an obstacle to the end of a journey.

What a fantastic and inspiring video Abbie, thank you. It was great to watch a video where I knew so much of the trail. The Lake District that I visit so often and then beyond through my 'neck of the woods' - the Yorkshire Dales and North Yorks Moors. Just a couple of more weeks and I shall be in the Lakes for a week which I am so looking forward to. It is there that I find the peace and quiet helps me sort my mind out and reset my spirit.

48:30 I know how you feel sometimes with navigating, if I have to do a lot of brainwork to figure where I am and where I have to be, I can sometimes panick and then all of a sudden it gets 100% more difficult to work out where to go. I was told once though that "All paths lead somewhere" which is to say, even if you end up going the wrong way you'll eventually figure it out and be able to correct yourself, Like how you summited the wrong mountain coming out of the Lake District, I try to see those situations as opportunities to experience something new and unique to me. Really enjoy your videos and its nice to see that unlike others, you aren't afraid to talk about the challenges and reality of managing and dealing with mental health.

LOVED THIS VIDEO!! I hiked the C2C solo three years ago for my 50th birthday. Watching this brought back so many incredible memories for me. I was watching with my iPhone in my hand scrolling through my pictures that I took on the trail as they synced up with your video. Every two minutes I was pausing the video and showing my iPhone to my wife saying, ‘Look! This is a pic taken at that exact spot!’ She really enjoyed your video too as she was able to see how spectacular and how much effort is put into hiking this trail. I really have no idea how you found the energy not only to make this video but to camp too! I stayed in B&B’s every night and I was so exhausted and sore that I basically collapsed into the bed. Well done on your amazing accomplishment of not only hiking this trail but documenting it so well! Your videos are really good! It’s hard to make these trekking videos interesting and engaging but you did a superb job!! Bravo.

Hi there. I've watched quite a few of your videos now, from reviews to your epic walks, I've got to say, you're so good at what you do, your commentary is interesting, eloquent and full of historical information, you really should have your own programme as you're very professional in what you do, when I got to this video and saw you crying, all I wanted to do was be able to say it'll be ok and give you a hug. I suffer too with my mental health and its been so long that I can't ever remember being happy, I just wanted to say your KZfaq channel is a break for me, for my overwhelming over thinking that i do all of the time.
