Nothing will ever be as cool as the old classics regardless of performance... I would take the Daytona any day over the hellcat just because I'm a Mopar history nerd and have owned many old mopars from the '60s and 70s

Altho there is extra cool points for being able to stop on a dime and turn both directions as well. Something the old classics did not do well at lolol. And were not getting into not starting all the time and having rust holes in the panels after 3 years. Some things are much much better today

@@jerrygibbs2148 They're not naturally aspirated I said. I believe I said they had a massive supercharger on them. The Daytona with the Hemi's (not this weak motor,) were running on NASCAR tracks at 200 mph, they weren't designed to do great on a drag strip. My 66 Galaxie XL ran best of 13.79 with a warmed over 390 with bad traction. These so called "super cars" today aren't all motor, a 1970 Daytona is all motor

That was an old, tired 440/375 HP. In it's day, it would have given much greater numbers on the dyno. I'd like to see Mark take that rebuilt engine back to the dyno and run it again. If the factory gross rating was accurate (probably higher) I would estimate around 300 HP at the real wheels.

Eh, I'm trying to figure out why you'd ever match up the top dog car in the dodge line up in 2016 for drag racing against a car that wasn't designed for that purpose in 1969. A lot of stuff has changed for the better today. Better MPG, amazing power and safety that wasn't even considered possible in '69. How-ever HP to weight and drag race potential hasn't come as far as this comparison suggests. If you really want a true match up of the difference of today's best offering on power to weight from the factory today and the best of the past. It's Big Block Dart vs Hell Cat. If you were talking Chevys it'd be ZL1 Camaro or Corvette of today vs ZL1 Camaro or Corvette from '69. If it was Ford you'd have to pit the best current Mustang vs the lightest Raciest factory offering from Ford's past. You can't just take a brand new Hell Cat to a dyno and match it up against a clapped out heavy car like that Daytona and expect to learn anything meaningful; about how far "power to weight" has come after all these years. The past power is still weaker but today's fastest factory offerings do carry a lot more stuff that in 1969 wasn't mandated.......that weight advantage to the fastest accelerating older cars was far bigger than this comparison shows us. Those high 10 and low 11 second time slips on the factory drag racers from the late 1960s are no joke and they match up pretty close to the new cars. They get there courtesy of a lower curb weight that makes up for the lower power numbers. I wouldn't tell you these cars were anything close to what we have today in terms of every other parameter but straight line speed hasn't really improved in the 1/4 mile by much if anything at all.

I would've loved to see the hellcat go agaisnt an original 426 hemi. Ive seen factory 426 hemis beat hellcats on the quartermile in factory stock drag racing. I mean they do allow minor modifications like being bored slightly over and a point of compression plus an exhaust but still impressive to see them smoke a brand new supercharged 6.2L.

Funny most of these older classic car's could smoke or beat these newer car's if they were lighter on weight. The horsepower was there in the old day's but they were heavier. Like 2 or 3 times heavier. What I also love about older classics is being built back to all original or can upgrade it. Either way they worth money but lot more original. They were more Beautiful then the newer 1s also. Wow I am surprised newer Dodge is way heavier. I'm shocked.
