Mine’s great. I just have to say one thing.. I wish people would do something about issues other than making a bad video review. Contact the dealer or manufacturer. Send it back. Get their response. Then add that in to the review. Did they make it right? Will their QC improve because people are not accepting it? Trashing it based on one bad example then throwing it in a drawer and saying “no more Spyderco” doesn’t achieve a lot.

Use the knife and the lock stick will go away over break in

I manage a retail knife shop and we got three of them and none of them had this issue. I purchased one myself and have had zero issues. That being said I agree that your example should have not been let out the door.

Fit and finish on mine is perfection and no issues at all. I have many Taichung knives and they have all had amazing quality.

Mine is perfect with no lock stick. Pocket clip design isn’t my favorite , but otherwise it’s exactly what I expected.

I have a hinderer, strider sng and terrible lockstick. I have subvert and many spydercos out of Taichung with zero issues. My cousins subvert also perfect. I think you are 100% correct when QC starts to get lazy but I'm afraid you got a Monday or Friday knife.

Mine has no lock stick, but the pocket clip sure makes a hot spot in my hand. As soon as Casey Lynch will have a replacement clip I will change it.

That’s unfortunate that you’re having such bad lock stick. I got mine in today and it has no lock stick. I know that can be extremely frustrating.

I recently bought the new military with the compression lock and it had the worst lock stick I’ve ever felt on a Spyderco. I returned it and never looked back. Some just get through the cracks I guess.

I’ve been getting a lot of qc issues from them lately. Lock stick on compression locks. Having to choose between side to side blade play or an extremely tight action. Horrible grinds on blades. They need to figure it out. I love them but I’m the same as you. I’m taking a break from spyderco.

Lock stick is not a defect or a problem. Just use the knife. The titanium will gall on the blade lock face and the stick will go away. I’d rather a lock stick than slip anyway.

Besides the noise does the lock stick have anything to do with the actual performance?

Lock stick goes away PDQ. My Subvert sprint is smooth as silk.

Sprint Run = one single batch, never to be repeated as a variant, sold through the entire dealer network.

Snagged mine for $350 from Indiana Knives…luckily mine has no lock stick but the centering was off and I feel like the grind is ever so slightly wonky

I’ve handled five of these with zero lock stick, but clearly yours does, as do others I know. It seems to be an intermittent thing. I agree with you it’s not acceptable compared to the competition.

Is the detent strong, weak or perfect? Can you shake the knife blade open?

It’s just your example. I’ve handled a couple of Subverts and no stick. Mine doesn’t have lock stick either. You can only review your example, but it’s not the norm for this knife. “Be happy with lock stick”? You’re assuming all have it. Again, mine doesn’t.

Oh, I heard the lock stick the first time you closed it. Made me wince. That would drive me crazy. It's an interesting-looking knife but not $420 interesting. For that price, I'll would rather buy another Hinderer. Actually, I did just buy another XM 18. The 3.5 nonflipper

I've only one knife in my collection with lockstick. It is my second most expensive at $1150. Shirogorov Gen 3 Haiti. It has a steel interface. I only experience it after using extensively (20 minute cardboard box sessions, etc., yes I use all of my knives). I never really thought it an issue, but it also only happens after heavier than normal usage. Why is it an issue again?

Spyderco’s Taiwan factory does decent enough work, but you can always expect an issue. I have the sprint run Subvert in the mail, as I write this, I’m expecting to break out the pencil for lock stick.

Qc seems to have missed let a few slip through for sure. Luckily I got a couple that are pretty perfect 🍀 a cooler clip would be welcome certainly but I really had no other issues

You should clean the oil, this knife is perfect, after cleaning the oil from factory it turned smooth and perfect.

That's really weird, all I get is Spyderco and for the last couple-few years I get really good quality from them. I will admit before that I would get some lemons time to time.

my dlc pm2 had bad lock stick that still comes and goes after 4 yrs. So i thought it was just dlc spydercos but nope. my most recent spyderco the sprint run yojumbo has the worst lock stick out of any knife iv ever had. I agree their quality has gone downhill and Im done with the compression lock it seems to be a gamble on getting one with or without stick

I bought two 20CV Subverts, (paid $300 each), and neither of em has lock stick. They’re both very well built and I love the design. I don’t know why you’d assume that a high percentage of this run would; from your sample of one.

The handle of it is gorgeous but that blade I just can't get with that blade.

Lock stick isn't a death sentence or always permanent. I had a Medford that had lock stick that was part of the process of creating an interface between the lock bar and tang. It was there, then went away. Also, look to the designer, did he use a lockbar insert in his design, no. Is it carbodized, who knows? Take the knife for how it was designed by the designer, part tool, part art. It is far more useful in this form than it is in the original form and far less expensive. Mine has no lock stick and I plan on putting an aftermarket pocket clip on it anyway. Many, many people replace pocket clips on tons of Spyderco's and other knives right of the bat. How much is a Sabotage??? If anything, my only complaint is a weak detent, but again I think that is part of the maker's design due to the large blade and pivot bearings.

I think some whining is definitely in order. all of these legacy companies think they can lag behind on industry standards like no steel lock bar inserts and cheep ugly pocket clips on knives in this price range is F---ing ridicules.

Ooof... yeah, that stinks. I couldn't justify spending that much on a second Subvert. My regular version works great. If I was spending that much, I'd get an Opiate V2.

I don’t understand why anyone would pay the money they want for a liner/ frame lock. They are a accident waiting to happen. They wear out if you really use your knife. I believe 98% of knives nowadays are just pocket jewelry. I’ve been done with spyderco when they said if dealers sold their knives below a certain price they would drop them. That’s why knife prices went up. Now places are selling everything for retail. When the market crashes maybe I’ll buy something then. I just do see any knife worth what they are asking nowadays.

Doesn't surprise me any. They're so concerned about getting a "sprint run" out so they can rake in the money and then watch the secondary go nuts that they don't care about their QC.
