The whole point of DH is that it lets you turn the render distance way DOWN to like 4 - 8 and get a long view distance

if you have an higher end pc and you can play with an higher actual render distance you shold do it. the higher is the distance of the switch between dh loaded chucks and chunck loaded for real the better it's gonna look overall.

@@alessandrogiavazzidiminishing returns my friend, even if your kitted out with 128gb of ddr5 ram and a Godly CPU, theres no point in investing all those resources into a long render distance when you cant notice the tiny details in the distance to begin with. If your using a high intensity pbr resourcepack with a ton of custom 3D models and animations then having your render distance too high could overload the GPU's memory in certain biomes like Jungle. (This is because of too many vertices in the models which takes up VRAM) If you wanted to get the best of both worlds *and* use a high intensity resourcepack with shaders then the DH+Iris+Bliss combo is currently the only thing that allows that right now. I do however agree that turning your render distance down to like 5 with DH+Iris looks icky, it should be atleast 10+ imo in order to look any good. Hopefully as time goes by, it will get more stable and more shaderpack creators will update their packs to work with DH.

Tip for anyone trying this yourself. you can (and maybe should) turn your vanilla render distance WAYY down after distant horizons is on for much better performance. you could turn it down as low as 4 if you wanted, but id recommend at least 8-12 or maybe even 16

It also doesnt load the RAM the way it should. Only 15 GB, but should be closer to 27 GB. He has some problem with his RAM.

Distant Horizons is too CPU bound that even 7950x3D struggles. I wish it was possible to make DH compatible with Nvidium for higher FPS

They're just not using the right settings. Too many threads allocated and not using the graavl VM enterprise edition of Java lowers performance.

@@gavinferguson2938 graalVM is an alternate java virtual machine ( a virtual environment where java code is compiled into java bytecode and then it is executed ) that adds a lot of optimizations and improves code execution performance significantly. By, default JVM ( java virtual machine ) is the default, which is very good at optimizing Java code and making it efficient, but its default garbage collection technique can cause performance drops, as it has pause the entire java process until the GC has been completed, graalVM improves that and a bunch other technical stuff.

@@gavinferguson2938yes, there are better versions of java that can make the game run better. mojang prebundles an old and poop version of java with their game, but in lots of launchers, you can point it to run off of a custom version of java if you have it installed. definitely look it up, i'm sure someone around has tested which ones are best for certain hardware combinations

I run 16 render distance with 128 DH, and a 32x resource pack for a 3060 ti. If you use the 64x version of patrix I believe ur fps will double & you can certainly help ur PC with that 4080

the RTX 4080 is one of the best graphics cards out there and the ryzen 9 7950X3D is the best ryzen CPU that is made for gaming. So it can be possible for a computer this good to handle these graphics however what he forgot to do is to turn the render distance down after he applied distant horizon to it. Distant horizon is a modpack that allows you to see even further than you actually are supposed to without having framedrops.

Try launching it without nvidium I think nvidium turns off once shaders are activated. Plus it’s pretty difficult to download and make it work I can make a tutorial

Having render distance on max is stupid since DH renders the chunks and doesn't take that much performance compared to the normal render distance and I genuenly never recommend using simulation and shadow distance at all since they don't really do anything or you barely notice any difference and they take a lot of performance

What is your cpu doing that's causing you to have such a massive bottleneck even at 4k with shaders before you even start rendering LODs with dh? You should have been much closer to 60fps than you were for a lot of the video, especially at the end where you only have ~30% gpu utilisation.

Minecraft doesn't use the GPU, by default, except for a very small number of rendering processes that have minimal performance impact. Most of the rendering is handled by the CPU and the graphics card's RAM is also eschewed in favour of the system RAM. It's the NUMBER ONE reason for Minecraft's poor performance without using something like e.g. Sodium. The whole video is based on a false premise.

bc you're not rendering 32 chunks or you have minimal graphics settings. if you turn everything off you can hit like 1500fps on an emtpy world with your system.

For distant horizon mod yes it does, other than that, if you’re running texture packs and shader it’s mostly gpu

your using the wrong settings first dont turn your render distance and and other distances to max reduces fps and its not optimal use 10-15 render disance use 7-15 shadow and entity go lower on this also are you only using distant horizon mod? then your not getting all the fps you should be using optimization mods also to boost your fps i have 4070ti and on 10 render distance i was getting 900 fps max and on distant horizons (make sure you preload the chunks with chunky or wait a but to load the chunks or put it on balanced cpu) i get 110-140 fps. i recommend that you use the modpack simply optimized and add distant horizons mods to it.

games normally have a flat texture (map) and then put optimized instances over it (like trees, rocks etc) minecraft render all, every cube. in this video you see billions of cubes, each one with their interactions. and now you only render what you see, a few years ago all the cubes was rendering. if here he gets 30fps in older versions you get 2 or 3 fps.

Minecraft is not a game where performance really matters that much. However, 30FPS is pretty eye-watering. Lower the render distance to something like 12, it will still look amazing.

You're CPU bottlenecked. Turn sim distance down to 12, your killing frames for no reason my guy. Also as other comments point out render distance can be low with DH and still look good. My 3060 gets better performance with the same visuals lol. Sim distance!

I’m going to post a video today or tomorrow. I get roughly 1500 fps on standard vanilla minecraft without any mods or recording. Once I add all these mods, shaders, texture packs and increase render distance. That’s when I lose frames. I’m on a 4080 not 4090, 4090 is double the power of a 4080. I will be posting a video shortly and you’ll be able to see the statistic much better in vanilla.

AMD ryzen 7950x3D the only reason my cpu was this high cause of the distant horizon mod, if I was to take the mod out my cpu usuage would be at 6%. Once I place the mod in the mods folder the cpu usage goes up to 60%+
