It's impressive to see these kinds of tests being conducted to push the boundaries of what we know about protective gear.

Just a tip, to be sure if you hit the vest, you should cover it with splatterburst targets, so you'll be 100% sure there is impacts on it. Easier for the spoter too.

Air is what saves you after a mile. Gravity acts in an (almost) perpendicular direction to the bullet's path. Without any air resistance the bullet would maintain its horizontal velocity until it hits a target (or the ground)

It would be interesting to see the difference in velocity and or penetration between containers with compressed air versus empty unpressurized containers. It seems like as soon as the bullet penetrates the first wall of the pressurized container it would have to combat the air trying to escape through the hole, push through the denser air, and then get a boost by the air trying to escape through the second hole. If it's a long container, maybe shoot it longways to get more travel time through the compressed air. Or maybe I'm just too shitfaced right now.

Edwin, in the name of all geman army veterans- we love you guys and your videos 🤩 And they really got some scientific content (mostly 😂) I´ve been a military sniper and i´m pretty impressed you hit that target at 1 mile and windy conditions with the 6.5 PRC,which is rather small for such range. 👍 Also i´m quite sure, a .300 WinMag or similar round would have made it through the soft armor. Got no experience in that, the Taliban used armor plates 😇 Always keep safe from injuries and have fun, we´re enjoying it! Greetings from (disarmored...) good old Germany

if its level 3 soft armor I'm gonna go ahead and guess no. I think even a sufficient hunting crossbow would go through those with broadheads and bodkins alike at least at their effective ranges of 100 or maybe 200 yards (assuming full length carbon shafting with high carbon heads of at least 160 grains.) edit: Well dang I wasn't expecting that.
@keres9934 ай бұрын
Crossbow bolts have insane penetration compared to bullets. It always surprises me seeing videos of those things zip straight through large black bears.
@keres9934 ай бұрын
@torinkjenstad in fairness I didn't expect this result either. This armor might be slightly overbuilt, as suggested by the previous testing videos. It seems a lot of modern IIIA is overbuilt
@dreadnaughttactical4 ай бұрын
As someone who shoots a lot of compound bows and crossbows.. I tell people all the time that if given the choice I would much rather get shot with a gun multiple times than to have an arrow with a broadhead go through my torso. Lots of people have survived multiple gunshot wounds.. even head shots.. but to get hit directly in the chest with an arrow with a Grim Reaper or Rage Hypordermic or Muzzy or a Ramcat broadhead on it.. and for that arrow to do a complete pass thru.. it's good night Irene.. you're done.. and hopefully it will be quick.. and not long and painful.
@EggplantHarmesan4 ай бұрын
A knife goes through soft armor better than bullets so I don't really see the comparison
@eom16824 ай бұрын
@@dreadnaughttactical A crossbow bolt weights several times that of a bullet, so even at slow speeds, it still has a lot of kinetic energy behind it, wich isnt dissipated that fast compared to something smaller and lighter like a bullet when penetrating something. In ww1/ww2, when they wanted to defeat the increasing amounts of armor of battleships with the same cannons they had already built they opted with making the shells longer and from heavier metals, saccrificing range for penetration power.

Id say the round is def slowed a bit by the travel distance + the wind resistance + gravity, cool vid
@holycow6664 ай бұрын
The only thing that slows down the bullet is air resistance. And the collision at the end as well of course. Gravity only bends the bullet's trajectory. The distance itself does not matter at all.

only at 2:30 in but this will be interesting, bullets loses about half it speed (or more) by only 250 meters, at 1000 meters and above it loses less and can keep going for a bit at sub sonic but since it is not a sub sonic round, it is not that heavy so it may not pierce, i am really curious about that. (just know that all those numbers are guesstimates, just that the faster a bullet goes, the more speed it loses to drag when passed it's terminal velocity and lower than a certain speed it will be able to lose less per meters traveled.)
