Artificial Intelligence is often met with fear and suspicion ... especially when it is invited into the more 'human' areas of life, like music. AI is here, so what does machine learning mean for the modern music industry, and how could we use it to ensure it benefits artists in new and different ways? Charlton Hill has over 20 years’ experience in the music and media industries in an array of roles ranging from major recording artist, studio manager, music and post-production audio supervisor, copyright consultant and actor. In 2010, Hill partnered with international music producer/composer Justin Shave to co-found Uncanny Valley. Turning their focus to tech, Uncanny Valley are harnessing the power of AI to provide innovative solutions for the music industry and artists.
Justin Shave is one of Australia’s preeminent music producers and musical directors who works simultaneously across the TV, record and advertising industries. With a string of platinum record hits to his name, Shave has helped artists and brands around the world find their sound. He has most recently produced tracks for Sia, Darren Hayes (Savage Garden) and the Potbelleez. Shave has a degree in music, computing science | pure mathematics from the University of Sydney. Shave has performed around the world from Wembley to Moscow, consulted for music tech companies Native Instruments [Berlin], Fairlight Instruments [Australia] and developed his own software synthesizers. His life goal is to use AI to download and map his musical brain. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Tbh I don't really care but one of my fav artist dodie (and probably most artists) writes songs based on their current circumstances and I don't know how AI could replicate that intimacy. it may come up with something that sounds like their work though but the background will be missing
@marcomune333
@marcomune333 2 жыл бұрын
If you use data that has a background you are intrinsically introducing a background in the AI. Which I would argue means the AI is writing with an emotional and experiential background.

5:38 Yes this can work, but it would also close the door for audiences to listen to new talents In my case I really love Schubert, Mozart, Haydn and Beethoven, but I also love to discover new composers and contemporary classical music I really love Queen and Blur but I wish the best for upcoming rock bands I really love twice, but I also hope for big success for aspiring trainees and upcoming bops And regarding 5:30, Tchaikovsky said inspiration is a guest who doesn’t knock on the lazy guy’s door, so I guess an AI won’t solve your issues here 😚

I was born in 1975. Considering the music that has been on the radio etc since then (and before). There is no way that any AI would make worse music than what some humans have. Its impossible.

Wooden ships and iron men... Iron ships and wooden men. As our AI 's get better at making music, we will tend to get worse. We will off-load more and more of our capabilities in to our machines. We will weaken ourselves. Become dependent. Flabby. Useless. As for me, like Woody Allen in Sleeper, "I prefer the manual method."

@@rokaq5163 If life requires no struggle, I'm concerned that we will all become lazy, weak, and flabby. Necessity is the mother of invention. With no necessity, we will not try to re-invent ourselves. I hope I am wrong, but we have been seeing this trend over the last 300 years. Iron men and wooden ships...

Title "RecycleUK" Take 1mt of rubbish, produce 5mw of heat, 1mw of power (electricity) no dangerous emissions (NoX), with carbon capture via cryogenics (dry ice) 🙂🕊.. share a whiskey "Johnny Walker" with Christopher Hitchens" Repeat - AI This reminded be of a pop group call cars Gary Newman.. Shame Neil Young withdrew his songs from Spotify because of Joe, Felt a different side to Tucker on the Spectator.. Stopping here as the AI will threaten to produce a Blunt song 🍺🍺🍺🍺 stay safe world .. see you soon Buddha boy
