Shea could have gotten a little bit more value out of reconnaissance: There is an end-of-combat-step after damage is dealt, where you can use reconnaissance to untap all creatures that have attacked this turn. So recoinnassance grants some kind of pseudo-vigilance. I love this card!

Do The reconnaissance trick Shea!!. You can pull your attackers out of combat after damage is dealt. This is because theres a step after damage called the "end of combat step" and they are still considered attacking in that step. Reconnaissance is essentially vigilance 😂 Great game doh 🎉

Fun game. As it has already been said, Aurelia has vigilance. So she shouldn't have been tapped. On another note; the tokens from the first combat shouldn't have been able to attack during the second combat since they didn't have haste. 🤫

Let's go Isshin... after damage and before the combat phase ends you can untap your creatures, so you can have like vigilance.

What an awesome game! I always get so excited seeing an Isshin deck! You had some of my favorite cards in it. Ankle shanker is a favorite! Reconnaissance is amazing as well. Even if it wasn't used to its full potential. Keep it up guys I'm loving your show!!

That was great! I was getting mad at the order of how they went out, then CGB gained a GOOGLE life, THEN!!!!!!!! Blake pulled it out and whipped that big ol thing out on the table and said, “How you like them apples, CGB?!?!”.

At 36:24 because of how Reconnaissance is worded you can actually untap Aurelia during the end of combat step, after damage has been dealt!

Seems like they immediately forgot it was there. At 17:00 right after its played CGB discusses blocking but decides not to because it would kill the humans, when the intended purpose of Reconnaissance would let her just remove them from combat safely.

Also wasn't sure on the two humans that came in, they came in tapped and attacking, but that doesn't mean they have haste and can attack regularly during that second combat.

If anyone is curious where the fairy from the 16:20 spell went, Alela only gives a fairy for the first spell each turn, not each spell cast on opponent's turns. It'd be awesome if it was the latter but it really makes for interesting gameplay and way of thinking.

At 36:00 Shea can’t attack with the tokens during the second combat bc they technically still have summoning sickness even after they enter tapped and attacking.

Double Googol isn’t what you want, what you’re looking for instead is a Googol Plex, which is a Googol to the Power of a Googol…if printed out, it’s literally miles long of zeros hehe 😜 😂

40:51 Does hostage taker not exile the one ring if it's phased out?? I believe it does and maybe it stays exiled permanently, but i'm not sure.

Actually, if something is "phased out," it's treated as though it doesn't exist. Thus, Hostage Taker isn't there to put The One Ring under, when it's ETB resolves, so The One Ring never changes control. This is different than the separate ETB and LTB triggers of Oblivion Ring, for example. Those triggers, like the trigger from Hostage Taker, have to see both the originator of the effect, and the target of the effect, in order to resolve.

First, if something is exiled or destroyed, LTBs will trigger and resolve -- which is why if you cast and resolve Oblivion Ring, the O-Ring's ETB will go on the stack, and wait to resolve if you blink or destroy the O-Ring. When that happens, O-Ring's LTB trigger will go on the stack, _on top of_ the ETB -- thus, the LTB trigger resolves first, giving nothing back, and then the ETB trigger resolves, permanently exiling the original target. Phasing doesn't trigger ETB or LTB effects.

To answer the question, the relevant rule is 702.26d in the comprehensive rules - "The phasing event doesn't actually cause a permanent to change zones or control, even though it's treated as though it's not on the battlefield and not under its controller's control while it's phased out. Zone-change triggers don't trigger when a permanent phases in or out." Hostage taker is still considered to be on the battlefield for the purpose of its etb, so The One Ring should be exiled and Ben should be able to cast it as normal.

As far as i know, because the Hostage taker is fased out with the trigger on the stack, the one ring will go to exile, but due to the hability to cast it being in the hostage taker, and not being given to the card in exile, Ben would not be able to play the one ring till the hostage taker phase in.

32:07 Alela did not die; she was reanimated via Whip of Erebos, which replaces leaving the battlefield to anywhere except exile to exile. This would not have triggered Ben’s Meathook Massacre. 36:02 The two Human tokens that just entered the battlefield in the first combat phase can’t attack as they do not have haste. 36:28 Aurelia has vigilance so she doesn’t need to be untapped via Reconnaissance. In fact, Shea could have been giving all of her attackers pseudo-vigilance by removing them from combat in the combat damage step or the end of combat step. 41:14 Phasing out Hostage Taker doesn’t stop Ben from stealing The One Ring. HT specifically cares about leaving the battlefield, and phasing out does not mean the object changed zones (CR702.26d). 46:28 Blake could have created near-infinite Squirrels via the Earthcraft/Squirrel Nest combo with his remaining Pegasus token in CGB’s end step. It didn’t matter in the end, but it could have… 😂

@@LucasRoth42 As I mentioned, CGB reanimated Alela from the graveyard with Whip of Erebos's activated ability. Here's the relevant text from Whip: If it would leave the battlefield, exile it instead of putting it anywhere else. Even though CGB sacrificed Alela with Phyrexian Tower, the Whip's replacement effect moved Alela to exile instead of the graveyard. "Dies" is a shortcut that means "put into a graveyard from the battlefield" (CR700.4). So Alela did not die (be put into a graveyard from the battlefield) and was exiled instead. Thus Ben's Meathook Massacre would not have triggered.

It seems that everyone says abaut reconnaissance mistake - sure... But ther is 2nd problem ;) The Token You create dont have HASTE... so the cannot attack in 2nd combat.... (thye just enter attacking, thats not the same as haste...). It didint metter at all here, still its a big deal for Isshin decks ;)

Interesting question. If it was killed, the "until it leaves the battlefield" wording would mean it won't get exiles at all, but with phase out it never leaves, so the ring should still get exiled.

I love the increasing lore of your games, and I think it would be fun to revisit the moments that get referenced.

Cgb you already had goaded Ben’s commander and Shea’s garrison and she attacked you with the creature and you re-goaded it. Alela goads those creatures permanently not just for that turn

Goad wears off at the beginning of your next turn after you goaded The reminder text says: Goad (Until your next turn, that creature attacks each combat if able and attacks a player other than you if able.) That’s why Jon Irenicus (for example) says “its goaded for the rest of the game”

JUUUUUDGE. Why would phasing the Hostage Taker save The One Ring? It never left the battlefield, phasing explicitely does not cause a change of zones. So Hostage Taker effect which was already on the stack should resolve and Ben should be able to play The One Ring from exile. What am I missing here?

So CGB said he set his life total to a googol plus 24, and then Blake said he would create double the amount of squirrels, then played Horde and Hoof......anyone care to try and work out the total amount of damage that went CGB's way???? I don't think I have ever seen that amount of damage dealt in a game before, it may as well be infinite!!

I can only estimate, but each squirrel dealt 2x (googol plus 24)plus 1 from triumph, plus one from being 1/1. He dealt at least a googolplex (googol to the power of googol) of damage .

Im not sure why Blake P2E Ben's commander. I know it was 5 damage but there was a SHEOLDRED on the board. Like that hurts everyone including him every time they draw a card. Maybe he was trying to keep Ben in check. I dunno.I wouldve gotten that Sheoldred off the board asap. If he was trying to keep Ben in check why did he Beast Within the Notion Thief with the Sheoldred STILL on the board? I honestly just dont think thats good threat assessment. Someone make it make sense.
