I’ve also had a stroke in 2010 my balance isn’t good either but I’ve had a cancerous brain tumor in 1989 so I don’t ride anything cause of slow reaction speed

Gday Chuck, I get that. I have a mate with the RT and I ride it often, your comparison with the Goldwings in spot on. I have a Goldwing also and I love it but it’s definitely the RT of CanAm’s. There is of course much footage that I can’t post on here of the F3S but let’s just say they are a lot of fun ridden a little more spirited than I show in this video. In wet conditions with the traction control off it’s a blast, it is necessary to up grade the front sway bar to a little heavier version to get the full ability of the F3S. If your really keen to exercise that inner hooligan add a Pedal Commander throttle response module (simple to fit & its plug and play) and it’s a complete package . ride safe Cheers.

Yes the Spyder is a great machine for sure but the Ryker is a fantastic launching pad, I wouldn’t be in a hurry to jump out of it.I do a lot of highway riding on mine so the Spyder is perfect for that but for sheer fun in the twisty stuff or on the unsealed roads the Ryker is great. If I could offer any advice for what it’s worth do a few thousand miles on the Ryker first. By that time you’ll know if the Spyder would suit your needs more than the Ryker, you live in a beautiful part of the world with your riding season coming on about now I believe so ride safe & enjoy, cheers.

Gday Tom, yes definitely worth doing the CanAm course but be prepared. Meaning after you do it you’ll want one for sure, they’re a great machine. Yes trike, yes three wheeled motorcycle, I guess it doesn’t really matter so long as we enjoy riding them. The main thing is they add ten years to you being able to still ride for whatever reason,great to hear from Canada 🇨🇦, on the bucket list one day to visit.

Yes mate if doing a lot of dirt road stuff the Ryker is definitely the go, I’m adding the 22/23 Rally version to the stable later this year. Hi Frank, yes certainly worth throwing into the mix. If I could give any potential CanAm owner a tip, ride one for an hour or so before you buy. If your coming from 2 wheels the sensation is very different initially due to the fact you don’t lean into the bends in the same way. At first this can be very weird until you train the brain to accept this. Cheers.

Hi Roger, yes they, especially the RT and RTL create some interesting moments in the corners initially. They can take awhile to adjust to. However, it’s more a rider’s adjustment than the machine’s. I have an RTL that I hit the twisties in daily here in Colorado. I really tiptoed it at first, now I easily double the posted speed and other bikes are hard pressed to keep up. So, it won’t take you long before you live for the curves. The Rykers are automatic, the Spyders are semiautomatic and will downshift automatically if you choose, I seldom do. There are several previous model Spyders out there with manual transmissions if you would rather that, just have to search them out or contact some of these National Motorcycle Dealers who could assist you in that quest. The mirrors are on the body and I’v never had any issues with them as I backup or at any point on a ride. They’re quite good. As for leaning in the curves, the suspension leans. More so as the speed and intensity of the maneuver, bank, etc of the turn/curve increases. I typically ride 100-150 miles every day the roads are ice free and I do as much of that as possible in the curves and twisties. Part of every ride I do is to never repeat the same turning technique on the ride. I use something different on each maneuver, different entirely and/or different combinations of techniques. I tend to Hooligan mine so my fuel consumption averages around 33 mpg. As I was learning how to dial it in, I averaged around 38 mph. It’s also approximately 2000 miles before it’s first time-up and that will probably increase the mpg some. I’m 6’1 250 lbs. Can Ams are extremely reliable. The shop at the dealership says they just don’t break down. I probably over do it on my end. I take it in every time I’m going on a long and/or out in the boonies ride to have them check it out. $100.00 is a very inexpensive cost for freedom of mind. As far as I know, they’ve never made any adjustments. They check everything out and it’s always good to good…and that’s good to know. As far as costs; it depends on where, when, and availability/supply and demand. I bought mine in the middle of Covid when the waitlist was a mile long. I ended finding a two year old machine with 3000 miles and paid current model list price for it. Another source you might check is Twisted Road and other services where a motorcycle owner rents their private vehicle out. There are probably some of those people who would consider selling. Also, Spyder rider clubs, etc. I bought my Spyder because I read how good they are for relationships…and it was the only configuration that my wife would consider riding on. It was hard to get her off the damn thing for the first year. She loves it and thank my lucky stars I now get my own time on it other than trips. Speaking of, if you’re not or your wife is not an Interstate person, Stinger Trailers in Canada manufactures one especially for Can Ams. They’re unbelievably inexpensive, they frig’n fold up when you want to store them, and they deliver them to your residence. We traveled 28 states last year and it’s much nicer to tow out in the truck and back it off the trailer on designated rides. Good luck in your hunt and enjoy your Can Am. Oh, a good tip for when you’re adjusting to particulars of operating these is to think of it as a three wheeled Go Kart with motorcycle controls.

Gday Johnny, yes I get your concerns re the deer. Anywhere here in Aus as soon as you get out of the city Kangaroos become an issue on the roads. Don’t worry about the mates, they’re probably just jealous and generally you’ll find once you make the move others follow. First time you’re on a group ride and it rains in the twisties you will disappear up the road in front of them and get to your destination stress free, no one will be making fun then. Hi, I’m using a slightly heavier sway bar bought from Sling Mods, it certainly makes a difference when riding through turns when you’re carrying speed. At slower speeds it doesn’t really feel much different but well worth the money. It may just take time but I feel that the opersite front wheel to the turn, is going to lift. I am from Ballarat. I watched both your Can am videos and they are the best I have seen. Cheers

The stability control will kick in (commonly referred to as the nanny) and do all sorts of wired things to keep it stable. I have a friend with the same model as yours and it’s definitely a must fitting the up graded sway bar. Love Ballarat ! Did some Gyro training there years ago, bloody cold though. 👍

Hi Terry, snap on the age. I also (as you’ve probably guessed if you have been looking at my channel)) have many bikes. Snap again, I also test rode the CanAm’s when they first came out. They didn’t grab me either, they were a bit smaller, ran a not so reliable euro 1000cc V twin engine & didn’t sit flat enough for me. In saying that I know riders with them that have had a terrific experience with the earlier model. However the current incarnation of Spyder is a vastly different bike 14 on, larger in size, higher in hp with a 1330cc in line triple with about 115 hp, far superior suspension, cruise control & comes in sports (mine) and touring versions. Now to costs, maintenance I can’t honestly say as I do my own servicing but can’t see they should be any more expensive than a large capacity motorcycle. Rear tyre, well I may not be the best person to ask here as weeeeel I do tend to like using that 115hp however I don’t see why you shouldn’t be able to get 15000k out of one. Had one recently put on recently it cost $275 AUD for the recommended tyre from CanAm but many use an automotive tyre @ about $175 AUD. Reliability wise , I have a 2017 F3S, a mate has the RT touring version & also a 20 model Ryker 900. Thus far we have had zero problems with any of them, however I do have to warn you they are ADDICTIVE. One of the reasons for this is it just doesn’t matter what the weather is, wet-windy-hot- cold, nothing upsets them and you’d have to do something pretty crazy to fall off. The Ryker is a blast , fast if you want it to be, handles like it’s on rails, more than happy on unsealed roads (as it’s shaft driven), smaller & lighter than a Spyder. It runs a 900cc triple or you can opt for the 600cc twin. Both are great machines, if your talking lots of highway use I’d say the Spyder because of the comfort, wind protection & std cruise control. You will now and then get your knocker’s but 9.99999 times out of ten they have never ridden one and have absolutely no experience on type and are maybe a little intimidated by them. My advice would be talk to owners, get some time on one if you can, you need at least an hour to get the feel and work out the different riding style. Gday Mac, both great bikes your looking at. For me in my situation where being able to break & turn short and fast is a must due to the wildlife factor here in country Aus the Spyder is the choice. I’d do a bit of research and see if there are any real life comparisons on the net. By real life I mean not where the reviewer is sponsored or selling one or the other, i think either would be a nice machine. Cheers.

@@standupmoto I've been looking for exactly what you said.. and I'm in Ontario Canada, pretty flat where I am (right beside Port Huron Michigan on Lake Huron) I'm not looking to go super fast or take curves fast. I just want a reliable and safe bike but with the part shortage, NOBODY has either, it's a waiting game. I had a Road King so I'm more drawn to the Freewheeler but the Spyder was amazing at everything and both are the same price

@@standupmoto I was told for the freewheeler if you get a "convertible lift and legend shocks" the ride is phenomenal as it puts the ass end higher (1.5 inchs) and puts more weight on the front but I have absolutely no idea

@@macwiller2105 Yes Mack supply is an issue for sure at the moment, I wouldn’t let money burn a hole in your pocket by placing an order on either. Over the next 6 months or so supply issues will normalize I’d suspect, that buys you time to do lots of research into both. Maybe drive down to the local coffee shop that riders go to on the w/end and chat with owners, get the pro’s and con’s. By the time you can actually buy either you’ll be an expert on both. Cheers

@@standupmoto well, my plan was to go the dealerships when they have them and test drive each one and that way I'll know 1st hand which one I like better. Only problem is where I am, there isn't any of either around so chances are I won't talk to either owners, just fans 🤣 Harley guys say Spyder is horrible and Spyder guys say Harley is horrible

Hi Oz, yes some of the earliest models did have some issues. I think this was in relation to the European Vtwin motors, after 2014 I think CanAm went to the Rotax 1330 inline triple and things got sorted. So far touch wood mine and a mates have been great (touch wood).

Hello, the model in the review is the 3 cylinder and so far it has been very reliable. I do run high quality oil and do regular oil changes every 3000km, the air filter is a 30 second removal process so it’s cleaned regularly also.

Well yes I guess but you’d have to be going pretty hard, it’s never happened to me and I’ve had this machine out in some pretty wet conditions. In saying that I do only run good tyres, as in I never let them get beyond the wear markers.

And I bet you love it.

Yes I used to think the same until I was told to google it “what is a motorcycle” definition = a two or three wheeled vehicle with a saddle type seat & handlebars. I couldn’t dispute it, google knows everything (so I’m told) 😂
