In the latest Under Center Podcast, Kenneth Davis, Josh Schrock, and Alex Shapiro are joined by Mark Potash from the Chicago Sun-Times to discuss the growing excitement and optimism around the Bears’ upcoming season. The palpable enthusiasm is reminiscent of the Lovie Smith era (1:32). Mark identifies Shane Waldron’s offense as the biggest reason the Bears might not meet expectations (2:08). They delve into fair expectations for Caleb Williams and Rome Odunze, and how quickly we'll know if Caleb is the real deal (5:39). Mark draws comparisons between the 2024 Texans and this year’s Bears, highlighting why it's fair and relevant comparison (6:50). They explore why Bears players are embracing the pressure and address how Caleb Williams has quickly removed doubts about his off-field persona early on (14:57). The discussion also covers key players and position groups deserving attention from media and fans (17:51), what head coach Matt Eberflus needs to do to validate GM Ryan Poles' decision to keep him (22:14).

Been a fan since 1979 and expectations are not realistic at this point. It takes time for a rookie qb to develop. In addition, offenses with a bunch of new pieces take time to gel. That assumes the qb will develop to a high level. Historically, it is 50/50 at best. The pumping and hype lead to dumping on the team when the growing pains reveal themselves. Comparing to Stroud is going to result in disappointment. Could Williams develop as quickly as Stroud? Yes, but it is highly unlikely. Stroud is not the norm or even close to it. I am optimistic but realistic as well. It will get worse before it gets better. QBs have a difficult time in Chicago which could be partially due to all of the hype driven pressure.

Quarterbacks in Chicago have had trouble, because ownership/FO was stuck in the past.

Kreutz was our last good center and supposedly wanted to be a a consultant and was offered a ridiculous amount like $15 an hour. The story was reported by multiple sources and if it’s true, it’s ridiculous and insulting to say the least. We haven’t had solid center play for any length of time since.

The Texans are about to come down to earth, for there's tape and plenty of it. Temper the expectations and stop comparing teams. There's still work to be done.

The stadium deal is funny. Giving Chicago government a chance to be part of the solution knowing the politicians can’t, while waiting out the lease with the Park District. They have time. I think they’ll end up in Arlington Heights when the time is right.

The line is going to be a problem all year long because it's almost guaranteed that Davis will have a finger nail and poor Jenkins just can't stay healthy.

@NBCSportsChicago PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD TURN DOWN THE VOLUME OF THE OUTRO THAT YOU PUT AT THE END OF YOUR VIDEOS. THE GAIN IS WAY TOO DAM HIGH. HOW HAS A PROFESSIONAL KZfaq CHANNEL NOT NOTICED TO TURN DOWN THE (GAIN) VOLUME OF THE OUTRO CLIP FOR LIKE 8 MONTHS?!?!? MY EARS ARE BLASTED AFTER EVERY VIDEO, THE AUDIO NEVER MATCHES! I LITERALLY CLICK AWAY FROM YOUR CHANNEL BECAUSE I AM SITTING ON THE BUS LISTENING TO SPORTS TALK AND THEN MY EARS ARE BLEEDING CAUSE OF "CONGRATS!" EVERY TIME.

This sounds more like they’re trying to convince themselves that everything is going to be great. Are they listening to all the things they are saying that need to go right for the bears to succeed. You’re praying Williams is the face of the 21st century athlete and not everything that is wrong with the 21st century athlete.

Crazy to hear these so-called experts talk like delusional fanboys managing a fantasy football team. They see the upgrades at skill positions and conveniently forget all the question marks. You have an o-line chock FULL of red flags. Jenkins is always hurt, Jones gets crushed against the bull rush, who the hell knows what's going on with Nate Davis, and either guy who might be playing center are bench players from other teams. Regarding our new OC....ask Seattle fans what they think of Waldron. Their grievances sound eerily similar to Getsy. Doesn't run the ball enough, questionable play-calling, etc. Speaking of head coaches...do people not recall all the bad decisions Eberflus made last year...some of which cost them games? Flus has not proven anything other than an ability to ride out a disaster of a season, hire terrible coordinators, and get makeovers in the offseason. Finally, you have a rookie QB, questions on the defensive line, a new DC, a young team that will need time to gel, and a TOUGH division to be playing in, two teams of which were better than the Bears last year with two proven QBs.... Be realistic! We heard this same tune last year and by the third game we were talking about firing EVERYBODY.... I know these guys need clicks but come on... (P.S. They got better toward the end of the segment pointing out some of these question marks...)

Everything is spot on, but Waldron turned Geno Smith, a journeyman bust, into a pro bowler. Maybe the QB limited the coach. Time will tell.

I agree! I'm all in on Caleb especially after listening to his former HS OC and Jason McKie on a pre-draft podcast. I hope he can see over the middle in the NFL otherwise a lot of slants to the outside as in Russell Wilson's legacy!
