it could be like normal cotton candy because the thing that causes it to pop is the little pressurized carbon dioxide bubbles it so if you put it in the cotton candy maker they might explode in there but they wont pop when you eat it (in cotton candy form)

Why not put the candy soda into a food processor instead of just hitting it to break it up? That way it’s more of a powder than just rocks. The strands should end up thinner and fluffier.

To make cotton candy maker to work properly, all that candy should've been ground down further to be similar to granulated/white sugar. Which honestly, that's all cotton candy actually is. I imagine most of that would have worked if it was ground finer and not just broken into chunks.

The thumb-shaped lollipops awakened a long-forgotten memory of a candy I had a few times when I was a kid, I think it was literally called Thumb Suckers, and it was, as the name implies, a thumb-shaped sucker, maybe twice the size of an average human thumb? IIRC they had a soft rubbery (maybe silicone?) covering and may or may not have had edible wax on the base. I hadn't thought about or remembered those things in literal decades.

It was so Dense because he kept the cone directly above the heating element which causes the cotton to melt slightly creating a more dense cotton on the cone. Keep the cone away from the warm spindle in the center and your cotton candy will be more Fluffy. Enjoy.

I think it might work better if you kinda blend the hard candy sodas to a more finely granulated sugar state. Also, try some sugar substitutes, like splenda and such.

We make granulated maple sugar on our farm and we make it by boiling the syrup to about 270° and then putting it in a mixer like a kitchen aide. It will pour like a liquid but by mixing it the rest of the moisture come out and you are eventually left with granulated sugar crystals. we also make maple cotton candy by using the maple sugar. Since we make maple syrup from sap that is 98% water, I'm wondering if just boiled the soda down to 270° (it might take a lot!) and then you could easily make granulated sugar. This should work for any sugary product if you mixed it with water.

@@cesarpinedabulldozer compared to soda, yes but compared to H2, CO2 is much heavier. The molecular mass of CO2 is 44.01 grams per mole whereas the molecular mass of H2 is just 2.02 grams per mole

I don't remember what it is called, but there is a food additive that is used to turn liquids into powder without having to heat them. The heating concentrates all of the non-water ingredients and can cause sugars to burn.

Maybe you should make a dome of plastic to put above the cotton candy machine to capture the wispy candy so it can't fly all over the kitchen, but have room to spin the cone.

Should try to revisit this by making it into crack candy then freeze drying. Including the Coke where you would be looking to just make it a taffy then fully dehydrating.

i'd vacuum dehydrate it to keep the flavor intact. heat just destroys sweet flavors and turns them carmely so easy.

So a few years ago, Codyslab did a video exploring the different types of sugar. I think it would be really interesting to see a video taste testing them after being made into cotton candy as it seems to have a very different taste.
