Erik Anders Lang is back with the break 90 challenge. But, this time, we’re doing something a little different. Brian Baumgartner, popularly known as “Kevin from the Office,” is commentating on EAL’s attempt of 19 shots to break 90. The championship course, the “West” course, has hosted five US Opens, the sixth being this year, and one PGA Championship. With narrow fairways, and rectilinear greens, Erik is up to the test playing under PGA tournament conditions from the tips at 7,450 yards, par 70.
Tune in for a special two-part edition of Break 90 at Winged Foot, commentated by Brian Baumgartner.

i love this series because it’s so humbling. everybody likes to give professional golfers shit for shooting a few over but then you see a decent golfer like erik go and struggle and you realize how truly difficult these courses are. He is doing this without being televised, and without a lot of money at stake, which makes it that much tougher when the professionals play. Props to erik for bringing us this content and keeping that level of mental fortitude.

I played the worst round of my life yesterday and to be honest, watching this reminded me that everyone can have a bad day and still love the game of golf. Not every shot is going to go your way and this episode of "break 90" truly was an inspiration even if it wasn't how you planned it in your mind. Thank you EAL

This is a great series Erik. And although it's probably no consolation for your frustration during the round, I really appreciate your honesty and perseverance, as I'm sure everyone else does too. It's humbling, and almost encouraging, to see a golfer, of your talents, tackle the mental game the same way we all do. I found myself wincing when it didn't go right and then wishing encouragement upon you when in the rough. You and your team have done a cracking job mate and I can't wait for the back nine!

If the goal is really to break 90, you need to start playing with that in mind off the tee. Find the fairway, get to a spot you can get up and down from. You make it so much harder on yourself than necessary in every one of these break 90 videos. Play every single hole as +1 on the scorecard, give yourself an extra shot to get to the green, on purpose, and make "birdies" by getting up and down. You could totally break 90 with that mindset. No course is too tough when you give yourself an extra shot and legitimately play that way. Then again, I don't really get the sense the goal is to break 90, but to showcase how tough the courses are and so I think you're being a bit of a masochist on purpose. Regardless, thanks for all the great content over the years Erik. Keep it up.

Erik, I'm with ya. I played Sedgefield CC(Home course of Mr. Chris whom you played in the hickory open with and that I worked at for 13 years till just after the course rebuild.) today with my hickories. Just a month out of the Wyndham Championship. Course was in awesome shape but brutal! Greens putting very true at the speed of my kitchen floor, and felt almost as hard. Cups were unforgiving as I had at least 6 lip outs. Rough was deep but not 6 inches. I found several of the "new" bunkers that were added when the course was rebuilt. Did not hit the ball real solid all day but not that bad. Only lost one ball in the hazard on 8 with no other penalties....92...Best part is I played with a good friend on his birthday, the round was comped and got a free beer too!
