The Conservative Party is on course for a historic defeat at the general election on July 4th. Barring a major polling error, the Tories are heading for a 1997-style election wipeout and the party’s problems may still get worse.
Nigel Farage’s re-emergence in mainstream politics threatens to destroy the Conservative party - but why is that? Since Farage announced he was standing as a parliamentary candidate in Clacton, Reform UK’s poll ratings have surged.
Times Red Box editor Lara Spirit explains what could happen next.

The only ones that will destroy the Conservative Party is the Conservative Party itself! I am 87 and I can n ever remember any Government as bad as this!. That's why this election will not be so much a choice of who to vote for, but more of a referendum on this rotten Government

@@Blackmamba12345 Where does one start? The COVID enquiry hardly paints the government in a good light does it? Matt Handcock came out of it especially badly having a power complex and what the Americans would call a zipper problem. Playing musical chairs with the PM position and in the middle of that having the shortest serving PM in history using the Tory party rules that make sure the parliamentary party can pre-filter the candidates to eliminate people the membership would like but who don't fit the agenda of the parliamentary party. Sunak claims that we are now the 4th largest exporting nation in the World, above even Japan, but has not squared this with the high levels of taxation and Joe Average struggling to make ends meet - where are the earnings for these exports going? Then there is the NHS - despite putting in extra funding it remains broken at the point of delivery as anyone who has had dealings with it in recent years will tell you (including my daughter who is a consultant). My personal experience - needing A&E for the first time in over 45 years found that it was closed to new admissions at 5pm on a Friday afternoon leaving me to bleed all over the floor at the walk-in centre for 5 hours before anyone (except for the poor guy mopping the floor) could take a squint at it. Labour will also make a mess of things as they always do but this in no way excuses the Tory party from the mess we find ourselves in.

@Blackmamba12345 A very small growth blaming the pandemic and the Ukraine war are pathetic excuses the problem started when David Cameron introduced the austerity measures making cuts to everything had he looked to grow the economy as he should have done then it would have been strong at the time of the pandemic.

Namely, stop the genocidal replacement of the UK populace via mass immigration. We asked them. We asked them again. Then again. And again and again and again and again and again and again and again. I believe that the lies and inertia by various Conservative politicians have seriously harmed there own party. Ritchie Rish Sunak has no idea at all. He seems to be determined to put forward utterly pathetic policies. I am baffled by his total lack of understanding about what his voter wanted. To be clear, I have voted for Nigel for many years. Unfortunately, there isn't a Reform candidate in my constituency.

He has actually already done a good job of destroying the Tories through all the difficulties produced by Brexit. Perhaps the most effective politician of our time, but also the most counterproductive, as one on the right helping Labour to power, with a massive majority on this occasion. If he was really to do anything about reducing migration, he would have had to help the Tories reamin in power and then push it in that direction. What he is actualkly done is give Labour an opportunity to increase it massively over ten years.

As others have said the Tory infighting has finished the Tory party. Nigel is there now to hopefully pick up the ex Tory voters. If all people who voted Tory last election vote Reform we will have a better straight talking (not political hogwash) government with a leader who will say what most of us think.

The Tories have had 14yrs to fix Britain but instead they have broken us by their lack of action against woke culture!...their failure to act decisively to stop the boats!..they fuelled inflation by not capping energy prices and the price of fuel at the pumps!.. The Reform rally was inspiring to watch.!...fantastic speeches full of common sense...the Tories could learn a lot from Reform! A lot of ex Labour voters will also be voting Reform!.
