Can fish escape a minnow trap?! I tested the Gee's style minnow traps with 7/8" to 1" and 1 1/2" hole openings to see if shiners could find their way out of the trap. I put a gopro in the fish trap to show you what happened inside!
If you want to catch small/medium minnows I suggest you use the trap as it is sold (7/8" - 1" openings) because they have a harder time escaping. If you want large/extra large minnows, open the holes up to whatever size your state allows. Just remember that expanding the hole size on the traps gives the smalls/mediums a much easier chance to escape while allowing in and retaining the larger baits.
Get outside and give trapping minnows a try!

Mr. Live Free Fish More, First of all I would like to thank you, on behalf of everyone at Tackle Factory, for using a Gee's G-40 galvanized minnow trap. Next, this is one of the most original and impressive videos testing the Gee's G-40 that I've seen. I'd like to see the other trap up close to identify it. It may be a modified version of our Gee's G-40 from another time. People often make the mistake of leaving their traps in too long (and as your test proved) and minnows will find their way out eventually. The trick is to find a place where minnows are in numbers and make multiple attempts to trap as many as allowed in one session. Leaving a trap overnight and unattended often ends with someone or something taking the trap. Please consider replying to this comment. I would like to speak with you about some of the other Gee's products for your future videos. I wish you had put the (Gee's G-40) in your title so more people who use our Gee's G-40 might find this video. I can take some close up pictures of that similar style trap. Seems like the only difference is it has slats that slide into each other on the inside rim to close it instead of wire "hooks" on the outside. I appreciate you watching my video!
