I'm Donnalouise - a puzzled puzzler puzzling puzzles who's practicing for the World Jigsaw Puzzle Championships in Spain this September - as well as for the National Australian competition in November! I did two speed runs by myself, went head-to-head against Wendy and then did a pairs run with Alison. What do you think - am I ready for Worlds? Will I ever beat the 1 hour mark? Enjoy!!

I would love to see the different categories you compete in the World Championships. Personally I would do great in at least the following categories: - Most puzzle pieces eaten by a cat without noticing (I'm sure at least 98 % could disappear without me realizing before I'm videoshooting my cats actually eating them). - Most misfit pieces by accidentally placing them backside up. - Most cursing words used before even getting the box open. - Fastest giving up in any puzzle. Probably even before seeing the picture.

🤣🤣🤣 You always have the best comments!! you made me laugh out loud! You should watch the livestreams of the competition on KZfaq once they air. They then leave them up to watch if you can’t watch live. If they had a category “One most dependent on image and box” I would win that for sure! 😅😅💜🧩

I know it is months away still, but I want to already wish you the best luck for both your practicing and to the competition itself also 🙂

I do feel that I am getting better with each puzzle even if just technique and being less stressed. It's been a lot of fun especially puzzling with others. 💜🧩

Haha. The puzzle fairy. Learning so much technique from you. With your box lid conundrum, would an adjustable desk type lamp, modified by Mr Love of Puzzles, replace the the bulb and gafffa a clip on the stem end to hold it work.

That is a good idea for the box llid but I'm trying to replicate competition settings and so, I wouldn't have such a setup to hold the box. My best solution is to either use a mobile phone or water bottle to brace the box upwards and then only bring it towards me near the end. Seems to be working. I just love holding the box for some reason. 💜🧩

Hi! I think you did really great with that speed puzzling 🙂 I'm also preparing for the competition. I found that it's actually incredible how important it is to really KNOW the image you're trying to piece together. I bought a 500-piece puzzle from Ravensburger with an image of a forest, stone dragon, a kneeling knight with a sword, and a unicorn (or otherwise white horse) next to the knight (perhaps you know that puzzle...); first time I did it, I was so shocked and so depressed... It took me 1hour and 40minutes. That was a catastrophe. But, I thought, perhaps I had the wrong approach, and wrong techniques. So, I decided to piece it together 2 more times to check if I can do it faster and what a shock! At the end, my fastest time is 1h and 8minutes ;-) That is so much faster than the 1st time! Just like you, I'm trying to get below 1 hour with speed puzzling but it's really tough... My best time so far is 1h and 4 min... Anyway, I'm still happy I fit in 90 min overall 🙈

So you are also going to be in Spain?? YEAH! It's going to be so much fun. I do know what puzzle you are referring to - not one that I've done. The image is just such a big factor when it comes to speed puzzling - some are so much easier than others, and some people prefer certain types of images/styles over others. I love busy illustrations whereas another person might like landscapes. 1hr 4 mins is a great time! And yes, great that overall it seems we are both under the 90 mins qualifying time. I wish you luck to get under 1 hour!!! We are both so close! 💜🧩

I have been inspired to do speed puzzling. My first time was 2:28 minutes. I have plenty of work to do.

That's a great first time! Speed puzzling can be hard on the eyes and the back. Was that for a 500 piece? My first 500 piece time was nearly 2 hours, like 1:50 if I remember correctly. I also find the image itself plays the biggest part in how fast I can do it. I'm not great with photographs or blurry images. I hope you had fun! 💜🧩

Great video! It's really fun to watch you "training" (I guess that is what to call it?) for the big event in Spain. I have done that cabana one and I LOVED it! The water got me messed up too, it was not easy. But those large pieces are just so lovely to work with!

Why was that water tricky?! So weird eh? Was a lovely puzzle though. I do enjoy doing the larger piece puzzles as well. Would be great to have them given to us at Worlds but I seriously doubt it. 💜🧩

Amazing DonnaLouise!! Kudos to you! I have tried to time myself but I just have to enjoy the process as I go. Currently, due to a fall and a broken foot I have two puzzles going on so I can elevate and ice frequently, so i am also working on puzzles in bed. One is Flora Heart, almost complete, but I also injured my knee in the fall so I can't sit for too long.

Would be interested in knowing how you get to Spain... stopovers etc. You have to go half way around the world. Google tells me its 28 hours travel time... Yikes. Will you be puzzling on the plane? Maybe you can do a KZfaq video on the trip.

I will definitely do a few follow-up videos and summary video about the trip. I'm also hoping to capture a lot of footage - I need to stock up on memory cards and extra batteries. First flight 1:50, long layover 6:05, second flight 17:05, layover 2:05 and then third and final flight 7:45 - that first long layover is a pain but it's up in Auckland so I may leave the airport to hang out with friends for a bit. 💜🧩

Well that all depends on which country in which you live...? Here in New Zealand, we use Facebook Marketplace and TradeMe.

@fortheloveofpuzzles I'm in California, I found some Facebook groups and such. I just got into speed puzzling because I got very sick, and my husband found out about Zoom competitions and thought it would be a good way to keep me busy. So I'm looking for online trade/buying ideas.

You should consider joining the USA Jigsaw Puzzle Association - they have a website and Facebook page. There is also Completing the Puzzle you might be interested in and I know there is an online speed puzzling group in the USA but I can’t think of the name. 💜🧩

Hopefully you won't set any puzzles on fire ❤‍🔥 as you speed 🏎 along! Very credible effort for all those puzzles. I think how fast you can do a puzzle depends on the image. Anything busy may well take longer than an image that has clear blocks of colour. Every puzzler has their favourites when it comes to images. 😀🧩🧩

I do find that I am very image-dependent when it comes to how well I do. One puzzle could take me just over an hour and another could take me nearly 2. I wish I was that fast - speedy fingers are needed! I don't know how some get a 500 piece done in like 34 mins! It's shocking to me. 💜🧩

While I'm here, when are the BOTYP results going to be available and how can I access them? May I also ask if you have seen the puzzle channel Ric's Nifty Puzzles? He is a New Zealander like yourself and quite new.

I’ll post the results in early July here on my Community Tab as well as on Instagram. I have quickly seen Ric’s channel, I think he has a few. I spend so much time puzzling, filming and editing that I don’t have as much time watching videos as I would like. 💜🧩
