DS III confirm that Ornstein in one is a illusion created by Gwyndolin. Ornstein levae his soul there and go to search his master, the nameless king. You can see his armor and weapon in his arena, with no body. That guy in ds ii is someone who admire him or is ornstein himself, after he left the nameless king too.

I like the way you edited the soul level and weapon upgrades over the gameplay. Also this is a cool run idea for replaying these games. Good vidya 👍

For the four side bosses (Armor, RRA, Gargoyals, and Dark Lurker), I tend to fight them between Ancient Dragon and the DLC. Thus, they are usually cake walk for me (well, except for the Dark Lurker).

For the Ornstein thing, lorewise I always pictured that since the ds1 character more than likely did the relight the fire ending, when they light the fire, they effectively lose all their souls to the fire. Obvious, I know. But in effect I think this means that all the souls they absorbed are "set free" in a sense, so perhaps they can go back to their old body or they can go find a new one. That's my head canon at least. That would explain why Ornstein was around in ds1 and ds2, and could also maybe explain why his armor set is at the peak in ds3, he was brought back to life again after the ds2 character presumably lights the first flame again. This could also explain some ds3 things like why aldrich seems to have absorbed gwyndolin and what seems to be nito's skeleton bits, and transposing their soul gives you priscilla's scythe as a spell. That could just be that the ds1 character never killed priscilla, but my resurrection upon relighting the fire covers both bases. They were all also effectively brought back after the fire being relit.

Concerning Ornstein...it's a mess. Basically: the one in Dark Souls 2 is plain not there. Miyazaki didn't like Dark Souls 2 and so ignored most of it. When it comes to Dark Souls 3, he retconned the Ornstein and Smough fight. Smough at one point became a knight. Like the 4 knights kind of knight. This happened because he was literally the only one to not leave Anor Londo. Ornstein LEFT the cathedral to look for the Nameless King, his master and general.

I love this! Scythes represent!!! I played my first playthrough of dark souls 3 with only the bow, because I was too scared to get close to anything, and kind of accidentally stuck myself in a build, then I got a hold of a side and loved it. I've been a side main all the way up until elden ring, when I couldn't find one that I liked. They are amazing, especially for pvp.

Due to a revelation in DS 3, the Ornstein in DS 1 is an illusion and Smough crushing it is the cannon way to end the battle. DS 2 the Old Dragonslayer is a different person and Ornstein shows up (in a fashion) in DS 3.

2 minutes in and I already know you can beat ds2 without estus or lifegems so I’m confident it won’t be too much of a problem lol

Ornstein in Dark Souls 1 is likely an illusion conjured up by Gwyndolyn. In that fight, Smough can bleed but Ornstein can't. (No idea how we can get his soul though, maybe he bequeathed a part of it to Gwyndolyn before leaving?) The Ornstein in Dark Souls 2 is just another Dragon Slayer, it's quite literally someone cosplaying as him. In Dark Souls 3 we learn what really was of Ornstein: he followed Gwyn's firstborn, abandoned his armor and very likely became the nameless king pet parrot. At least, that's my interpretation.

12:50 if we think that killing 1st smough or 1st ornstein are both canon then there's definately both souls present but guess you can only get one cause 2 of them get the soul before you. It is also possible that both of them are illusions made by Gwyndolin, using their souls, to test us before giving us soul vessel. But there's no real hint to that, I would think that way cause why the fuck would they defend illusion of a woman or maybe they just defend the vessel the only definitive info though is that both souls are present when you arrive

Who doesn’t fight skeleton lords that way? Isn’t that how it’s done? As for old dragon slayer, it’s a difficult thing to explain over a comment, but basically drangleic is a long losing its own image through hollowing. In drangleic, what is remembered by others is what exists. Someone either very much thought of themselves as ornstein, or the title of “dragonslayer” warped the perception of this warrior into the dragonslayer of legend that people recognized. It’s all a convoluted mess, but if you let your imagination wander a bit when thinking about it, ds2 lore becomes so frickin cool
