What's honestly amazing about this hack is that the AI appears to be far smarter but was actually left untouched! We're just seeing how competent gen 2's AI really is now that it's been given well designed teams and movesets to work with.

A tip for anyone looking to get that Larvitar encounter in a Nuzlocke: There are only 4 encounters in Dark Cave and Larvitar has a 4% spawn rate. However, one of the other three has a 1% spawn rate, and the other two are Geodude and Zubat. Both Geodude and Zubat are pretty common, I had a Geodude before even getting to Dark Cave and I Repeled my way through the first floor of Union Cave because the second floor has a 50% chance at Zubat. I got the Zubat encounter and this means I only have two potential encounters in Dark Cave, of which the more common by a significant margin is Larvitar. It also means I'm guaranteed a Slowpoke in the Well so that's cool too. But basically, you can use dupes clause to your advantage to get a Larvitar at the beginning of the run.

13:56 The reason that Hypnosis missed is that status and debuff moves from the opponent have an innate 25% chance to fail no matter what. As such, Hypnosis will always have a 25% chance to fail, no matter what, MR just buffs it from a 45% chance to hit to a 75% chance

Funny Story about the Rival and Larvitar: In the Pokémon manga, the rival actually has a Pupitar for a time that was obtained via Lance and then after it evolved it was returned to Lance because he couldn’t control it. Of all Pokémon the Creator gave him, they chose the most fitting Pokémon.

This is my own Personal Idea, but if they ever wanted to make any tweaks to better fit that lore, they could easily make it that he gets the Pupitar around the time where he encountered Lance and lost badly (maybe he gives him the Pupitar out of Pity or because he knows who his Father is and does it as a means for him to be able to fight Team Rocket) and it’s around the time we battle him in the Basement that we see it (level wise it would also fit). In one of our last encounters (like the Mount Moon encounter), he acknowledges that he had to return the Tyranitar to Lance because he couldn’t control it so he found his own and raised one on his own accord, showing he truly grew as a Trainer. It would then make even more sense why Lance has a Tyranitar in the Rematch Battle. It’s the one that the Rival once used.

@@pokerux3380normally I would agree, but I have watched his creation videos and it’s very clear to me that he didn’t take lore into account when making some of these decisions (the chat had to fight to name the Executives Archer and Ariana, because he had no idea those were the names they got given in the remakes). He picked tyranitar purely to make the final fight more difficult. The fact it lines up with the Manga is a coincidence.

I love in Crystal how easy it is to evolve electric types like Magnemite and Flaaffy, once u get to the ocean u can just grind on tentacool and tentacruel until they evolve. Pretty simple :D Also something I bother sometimes is how low level trainers pokemon are when u get passed ghost gym. Like trainers from Lake of Rage only have pokemon at lv 17 - 19. Which is super low in my opinion. I wish the trainer were a bit tougher. I love tho how u can add phone numbers on trainers helping u getting evolution stones and rebattle meaning u can level up more and earn more money. :D

@@pokerux3380 Like take bugsy its unfair how they only give him scyther, giving him kakuna and metapod, that not a gym leader to me tbh, the last guy u battle before him got Weedle, Kakuna and Beedril, he felt like a mini gym leader to me. Prob him who take the gym after Bugsy but they could had giving him both Butterfree, Beedrill and Scyther. That had been more even and what would be more cool if they had giving him Heracross as heracross is the new bug type for Johto also rival to Pinsir. That would be the newest upgrade for Bugsy to me. :)

@@Y0sh1no5am there are a few things in gen 2 that makes no sense gameplay wise but make sense lore wise (like bugsy having kakua/metapod due to a research he was doing, or the rival not having fully evolved pokèmon in the last battle in johto due to how he treats them etc)

My brother found this game in a park and gave me it, I fucking loved it, already had Gold and made Crystal my new game and had a really great team, I already knew about Ho-oh so when I used my masterball on Raikou and traded over my Entei from Gold. When I got the Ho-oh unlock me and my friend were so hype.

Luckily u can trade a Krabby for a Voltorb and with the trade effect u will be able to get Electrode pretty fast. :D Also u got a whole sea to thundershock so that just the fastest way to get Electrode.

Me and my friend are doing a nuzlocke with the new hard mode now which locks the lvl cap, no switching, and no items in battle. I will say I love Crystal Legacy. The changes to the moveset and evolution and the fact the side stuff is way better and you can catch and obtain all pokemon without trading is a cherry on top. The stat changes also are good which getting a wooper is great since Quagsire in this game is both atk and sp atk tank due to the stat changes it gained. I think the change to CUT making it a bug type seems right since you unlock it from the bug type gym. I would say this game is the best Crystal Romhack to this date since the ones before I got bored of real quick and with the new hard mode its a nicer challenge to go through.

Mind Reader failed to make Hypnosis hit because of a weird quirk. In Gen 2, the AI's status moves have a 25% chance to miss, not including the chance to miss from the move itself. So Mind Reader only erased the miss chance from Hypnosis itself, not the 25% chance AI modification.

Cool tip, if you get a sentret or later in the rocket hideout TM theif. You can steal all kinds of useful items like metal coat and kings rock from wild magnemite and slowbros, or claire's leftovers

I loved the video and I did subscribe but the only things. 1) maybe try to stay a little under level cap otherwise it seems too easy (personal experience it makes it a little more challenging) and 2) it’s Scizor as in like scissors not size-or

Mind reader didn't make hypnosis 100% accurate because all status moves used by all opponents except link battles have a 25% chance to fail. This comes into play after mind reader har made hypnosis 100% acc making it a 75% chance instead of like ~50 % normally

Paralysing Pkmn doesnt increase your catch rate in gen 2.. Only sleep and freeze.. Or has Smith fixed this? Havnt heard

Rare candy cheat code i cant find one that works grinding sucks on low level pokemon to ensure to deaths when grinding in nuzlockes i grind till about 20 than use rare candys since i can one shot everything at that point plus no evs/stat exp makes harder play

I followed standard Nuzlocke level cap rules, this game just isn’t extremely difficult by those standards. The well balanced encounters throughout the game gives a lot of options to beat the game with, so experienced nuzlockers won’t have a major challenge without adding more self imposed rules. But as this was my first run and had no way to know how hard it would be, I played it with standard rules.
