Hello everybody, good morning, I hope y'all are having a wonderful day. Today I will be giving a brief summary and opinion about this book. This novel is called Indivisible, it was written by Daniel Alemán. The story revolves around Mateo, a 17 year old teenager who is about to leave high school. Mateo lives with his two parents and his little sister Sophie. Mateo and Sophie for the longest time have only been scared of one thing: Deportation. Their parents are immigrants. Mateo in the book explains how he and Sophie were born in New York but his parents are Mexican, he also mentions how he works in his parents Mexican retail store to help out his parents. Matt, as he likes to be called, has two best friends: Adam and Kimmie, both of whom are from his high school and are always by his side through tick and thin. So now the main story. One day when Matt was working in the store, two men came in looking for his dad," is Mr. Ernesto here?" Matt in a panic says no, while his dad is hidden in the back of the store. Shortly after, the same thing happens but now in Mateo's house, the ICE comes looking for his parents and Matt says they're not there while they hide, thankfully the ICE didn't have a search warrant so they couldn't get in the house. A few days pass and Matt arrives at the store only to see that his parents are not there. Scared, he asks one of the workers and she tells him that he hasn't seen Matt's parents since the day before. Now with all the fear in the world he runs home. He comes home to find an empty house with no sign of his parents. This is it, the day he most feared, they took his parents. His parents were taken to different prisons and without Matt and Sophie. Matt now has to take care of the rent, the store, Sophie and himself, without any help. His uncle Jorge who is the owner of the store offers Matt to stay in his apartment but Matt turns down the offer since he doesn't want to leave his parents apartment. Poor Matt comforts Sophie, who breaks down every time he thinks of she thinks of her parents. Even with everything that is happening Matt has another problem CPS Child Protective Services comes looking for his sister since she is a minor and can't be taken care of by a high schooler. Matt and Sophie can't say anything to anyone as the wrong information can go to the wrong people. I'm going to leave it there. I don't want to give out spoilers. Now my overall opinion is that this book is amazing and I recommend it a lot, it's in English so maybe you can find it translated. My favorite character is Matt for his character always staying strong even in the worst situation. I think the moment that I liked most was when Matt said that he and his mom watched a Novela called Passiones del corazón, and in a scene of the book he visits his mom in jail and she asks Matt " so, what did I miss from pasiones?". So I liked the ending it's sad and happy at the same time. I hope you liked my presentation, I hope you give this book a chance and read it because it really is a beautiful novel. So everyone have a great day.
