Great video, thank you! I bought one of these on clearance at Cabela's a few years ago for about $29. One of the best deals I've ever found!

Unfortunately Schrade is now making this knife with a hollow grind. I am gladI, like you, I have one of the older ones. Don't think I would try to break it though. Thanks for the video.

I’ve got a first production run from Taiwan, when they first came out. I love my Schf9. I paired it with the Schf 42&42d. I got both at close out for $15 each. I annealed all 3 myself in a full sized oven just to make sure I’d never have any problems. And changed the grind angle on all 3. The Schf9 is now a scandi grind. And the 42&42d are now full flat to scandi grind.

I've watched several of your videos, particularly the knife demos. I just wanted to say that I do prefer a knife more this size for camping. I know it's no mora, but it's about personal comfort. For me, it's easier to accomplish an array of tasks with this size knife.

It's for sure a tank of a knife. Great for bullying your way through camp chores, don't have to be as careful when battering it through hard wood, can chop down pole saplings, carve your nocks and build a decent lean to pretty quick then bust up firewood for the evening, feather stick etc. I keep a smaller knife for detail work but love a heavy bladed tool you can downright abuse if necessary. The tip can be a bit rough for much of the small stuff but it's almost as strong as the rest of the blade, has its benefits. I resisted the urge to reprofile the tip cause I always have a mora/freeman/etc that already has a detail oriented tip for that. It won't let you down. I have no interest in the stainless version but it's out there if you like that.

@@CommonCentsOutdoorsman I think I'll end up doing the tip a hair slimmer for better groove carving etc, been thinking about flattening the butt of the handle for pounding stakes etc as well, but overall still happy with it as a bulk manufacturer blade.

What gloves are those sir? And the knife is obviously tough but would you recommend it for someone with average size hands?

Wells Lamont Hydrahyde from Walmart. The handle on this knife is very large. My hands are slender so I like fatter handles but most do not. If you are comfortable with smaller handles this may not be for you. Also the finger grooves can be uncomfortable on smaller hands. Hope that helps.

@@CommonCentsOutdoorsman it does thank you so much. I’m looking into a first survival knife and the fat handle probably isn’t for me. Now I’m looking into a whole other category, the Esee 6 in particular. Thanks for replying and also on the gloves
