Can I catch a PIKE KILLER?! - Fishing for BIG Predators...

After seeing quite a few small/medium size pike with injuries on the Lakes I fish, and seeing the perfect ultra realistic sizeable pike replicant lure in the shop I decided to try and catch whatever has been doing the damage. Obviously, these will just be the survivors and i'm sure there has been a lot that haven't been so lucky! Pike fishing with pike replicant lures is always great fun because you get to see their predatory nature at it's finest, and at the perfect time of year I just had to give it a go. But can I catch a big carnivorous pike?

If I can offer a bit of advice, it would be to not stop bringing the lure in if you see a pike follow it. You will catch some that way, but it's not how a bait fish will react to a big predator, and it often spooks the pike, or makes them cautious about biting. Often a quick jerk is enough to trigger a response, but stopping dead in the water can do the exact opposite.

Advice is always welcome mate! I try to only pause then small twitches usually but sometimes I could definitely do with jerking it a bit more dramatically

Thanks mate, not sure I’m quite at master status 😂 in many types of fishing I’m just a beginner! Spending so much time on the bank definitely does teach you a thing or two though 👍 might be some opportunities to do that coming up so keep an eye out

Cracking pike , just one fish like that makes the day ( but you always hope to land another one LOL) , I find putting the net in the water and steering the fish over the submerged net reduces the number of fish lost at the net as its less likely to spook the fish with the net ,

George - lovely pike. Can't understand why you always leave your landing net away from you? When lure fishing, my net is always by my side to the left - either on the ground or with the handle raised via the lure bag. All too often, they throw the lure close to the bank - those couple of seconds could be the difference between a fish landed, or a fish lost.

Thanks mate! I can’t understand either, I’m always making mistakes 😂 I cover a lot of ground and a lot of swims and when the vast majority of them don’t produce a fish setting the landing net up doesnt feel like a priority I suppose!
