if mixable like oil or soft dry pastel, 3 is enough. Otherwise it is doable with 6 (primary and 2ndary colors), tertiary is over kill in the hands of someone experienced. This is a good video to show that you really don't need that much variation in color pencils for realistic drawing.

honestly, most perfectionists are like that -harsh critics towards themselves. i can honestly relate, because i've had people tell me they like my writing and me thinking it was sh*t. it's setting really high standards for yourself subconsciously because you know you can do better.

I hope you never stop making the Jazza art boxes! My son is only 6 but he loves drawing! I've given him a bunch of my old supplies like Touch New alcohol markers, old sets of pencil crayons, craft paint, and lots of new materials like blank comic books and decent quality sketch pads. I really hope he holds onto his love for art. One day when he is a bit older, old enough to appreciate the quality, I can't wait to gift him one of your art boxes 😊 we love watching your videos.

Love how that baby toy realism turned out!! And I love your approach to getting the right colors. It was so neat to watch that come together! I so wish I knew about the Jazzy Art Box. I had my third baby last summer and wasn’t doing much of anything for a while there besides trying to survive the newborn period with 2 older kids to take care of. Still would have bought it then if I knew!! The art supplies all look amazing!!

Maybe you could draw a picture of a picture drawn with 12 cheap colour pencils. With some effort, you wouldn't be able to tell them apart. Perfect realism. ; )

Hello from Canada! I can't believe you're as hard on yourself as you are! You are insanely talented!! I discovered you rather recently, and have been binge watching your videos. You're an amazing artist!! I also love that you try different techniques and share your opinion. That's fantastic! As for this particular exercise, WOW...you truly nailed that bubble section! I'm not saying the rest of your drawing isn't amazing, but that bubble section at the top is just fantastic! I so wish I could order one of your art kits. However, Canada is at the opposite end of the earth! Anyway, so glad I happened upon your channel. You are definitely an inspiration! And I thoroughly enjoy every one of your videos! @@igorz3551 Yeah honestly as much as I like Jazza his skills in realism don't come close to really any of the hyperrealistic artists. And that's cool, his focus is more on the cartoony stuff so for him this is a good one, but the first compliment goes pretty overboard.

How do you know how to color mix to approximate a particular color? That's like a black art to me.

@ 5:22, for just that second, he has a card out where he has been trying color mixtures to get it right. So a bit of trial and error, with a dash of practice and color knowledge.

If you research colour theory, there's a bunch of information out there that should help you figure out colour mixing--it is hard though ☺

Get a 24 pack of Prismacolors. They're really nice and easier to use than Polychromos. OfficeMax has them for $8 right now. That's super cheap.

I can vouch @@joeblankenship377 while idk how much better they are than Polychromos, I *can* say that prismacolors are very easy to use, so much cheaper, and are the reason I learned how to colour blend. Ugh, they're just so nice! 😍
