Can I Fix My Ford Transit Connect In Under 4 Hours? Watch Me Attempt To Beat The Clock!

My Transit connect ran out of Mot in September 2021, so on a whim, I took it for a test hoping it would fly through with no advisories. Well, I was wrong it failed miserably. I've rebooked the Mot test for 4 o'clock in the afternoon giving me less than 4 hours to get all the faults fixed. Why do I do it to myself? count down the time with me, trying to fix all the faults. Will I get it all done by 4? Watch till the end to find out. A normal day for Reviving Salavage.

I fixed serviced photocopiers for many years. Manufacturers used retention clips on rods called a snap rings. Special pliers spread them open enough to dislodge them. Those are called, predictably, "snap ring pliers."

Quick old boys trick for getting the new part in to the old rusty housing, pop the joint in the freezer whilst you have a cuppa and sandwich, then use your gas brazing torch ( plumbing jobs) to warm the cast part. Grab the cold joint, and bingo, that slight difference and a spot of grease helps a load.

Well done. Doing them ball joints on the deck aint a simple task . Another one under the belt. On the link arms if it keeps spinning I cut the bar low down then bend em till the joint pops off and then put the grips direct on to the ball . You did a great job sorting that lot out and back on the road again. Freezing new part and warming hub with a blow torch does work but you gotta be quick tapping it in and you dont have a Freezer handy . Cleaning the hub up is a must too then a bit of grease or oil to help it in. Spot on bud!!

Your van is identical to mine which is also silver on a 55 reg. Ive owned loads of these as i end up getting bored with it then selling it on but i always seem to get another along the way. @@sammytheseal2307 Ok number 1 do you really believe everything you see on the internet his watch time and date proves nothing. Number 2 he insinuated that he only had 4 hours to complete the work as he had nothing to drive to work but he obviously did also as the van failed the mot on the 19th January he then had 21 days to rebook a test. So he had prior knowledge well before and all wasn't completed in the 4 hours he stated.

I have nothing to gain from liying ... I had 10 working days to get it retested as stated by the MOT garage. I bought the parts from eBay, and everything arrived apart from the droplinks. After waiting a couple of days I went to my local motorfactors to buy them instead... So that's why it took me that long to start the work... In the meantime I was actually walking to work & having lifts as my wife works as well & had the car... The 27th was the only day I had left to get it Mot due to work commitments, and yes, I only had 4 hours as it was booked in for the very last time slot in my local garage... It was dark when I got home, so I decided to wait to film the end for better video lighting... I hope that clears it all up ... As you can plainy see from my watch the time & date buddy... I hate liars I just don't get it; people will always get caught out in the end ... I pride my channel on being honest & upfront with everything I do, from day one... thanks for watching 👀

If you do your own repairs mate invest in the right tools for the job lol this video reminds me when i first started out 30 year ago doing this kind of work with bugger all tools with blood sweat and the scars to prove it 😁, 30 years on a garage full of tools, specialist tools and most importantly air tools and a 100 ton press, the right tool for the job can do this job in minutes, the best thing for stuff like this is an air hammer capable of hiting hard, usually with these style ball joints i use my astro air hammer it will drive them out in a matter of seconds then then use a small wind up press to put the new one in.

Just a heads up, you really really dont want diesel or oil leaking onto or anywhere near your timing belt. (If your van has a timing belt as those connects can come with dry belt, wet belts, chains or a mix of both) Yours looks like the dry belt going off the plastic cover, anyways diesel will eat it away completely to the point of snapping and it goes without saying what happens after that.
@tiguanman1170
@tiguanman1170 2 жыл бұрын
Just a suggestion: do some wet belt research for that engine. Changing timing belt and water pump is important but the overwhelming weakness is the wet belt which won't have been changed. If it breaks you'll be posting a video of an engine replacement. My 08 reg TC is chain but anything 57 reg onwards could be wet belt. You can take tensioner bolt out and that will show what you have.

I was under the impression that everything upto 08 was a chain ( left over from the mechanical injector pump days of that engine), then possibly wet belt / rubber after 08 ( common rail, so no need for timing)?
@tiguanman1170
@tiguanman1170 2 жыл бұрын
@@sparkyhobo3844 Well I heard about this issue and did some research and it seems the engine design changed October 07. Either way it's worth checking because while chains very rarely fail, the wet belt can break or slip. There's a Transit Connect Facebook group and there’s some good advice on the tensioner belt etc.

mate you should really invest in some basic tools that are gonna save you so much trouble you had in this video. C-ring pliers, table vice, such tools make the job so much easier.. Once you are tired nothing goes right....

Asset of circling pliers might have been better than a flat blade

That seems very poor of the mot tester that he said the brake discs were pitted and scored when they are brand new. You should pull him up on that. It’s basically that he forgot to take it off the system. But at least it’s legal.

Well done for getting it done with none of the correct tools!. You do need to get some circlip pliers though...and a hydraulic press would be handy 🙂

Yeah I totally agree I need to invest in some more tools 🔧 but money 💰 is a massive issue. So you have to make do with the tools you have to hand ... there's always a correct tool for the job mine seems to be an hammer 🔨 lol

@@RevivingSalvage I was really surprised and impressed you managed to get that ball joint out and back in. Levering circlips out can be dangerous especially if your leaning over it, could spring out or snap and hit you in the eye. Chances might be slim but it only takes once.

@@RevivingSalvage I saw what you payed for the tools to use on the mk7 transit ( not every day tools lol) But circlip pliers made my chuckle :)

I prefer a ball joint splitter, the scissor type, made by a reputable company.

New subscriber, really enjoyed your video, but scrabbling around on the floor ain't gonna do you any favours when you get older matey even though you were pushed for time.

I normally use my garage & have the luxury of time ... but i had the audi s1 inside & the Transit was stuck blocking it as well... its my own fault leaving everything to the last minute... totally agree rolling around on a cold floor isn't ideal... thanks very much for your concern I really appreciate it 👍
