Kim I find coke can and a hose clip is the easiest and quickest way to protect threads/turned shafts from welding damage and you can use it over and over again.

Great video and nice repair, seems a shame to grind those welds. To repair something properly always takes longer than we think but at least you’ve learned the necessary skills to turn out quality work.

Grand job on that spindle young lady. Make sure you invoice melod a healthy sum for making that part! Noddage of head minus cap!

I do actually own a Dickson tool post. Genuine one as well. The issue is I need a lathe to fit it. But if I take mine apart I can’t then do what I need. 😑

@@CalamityKim1 Dickson are quality, I've got a 1958 Smart and Brown toolroom lathe, I fitted a Bison quick change and it does make life so much easier but clearly you already know they've worth installing !! Keep the vids coming 👌

Interesting fitting n turning👍i usually write changes down from imperial to metric so I don’t forget especially if I work on it again. Even though here in Australia we change in 1966 from imperial to metric you can still find 80’s stuff with imperial, even the odd whitworth.

The worst I did was get a blob of weld on the crown wheel. I managed to grind it off. Then sand it and polish it so you couldn’t tell 😁 I have a plastic cover over my watch to protect it.

I catch mine all the time but with the silicone case (not plastic) it really protects it. Well worth the couple pounds it costs. Absolutely as well, the more the merrier. Thanks for subscribing 😁

What got you into fixing and making stuff? Has there been a person who's influenced you? I learned to fix and make stuff because dad was tight and my mum's side of the family were engineers of some sort or other and it's rubbed off on me.

Hi there, so my dad and my brothers really. I always used to spend time with my dad tinkering. I learnt a lot of the mechanical stuff from my brother though. We rebuilt a ty80 when I was young.
