Very interesting to see this one. I am a bit of a Vienna acoustics fan boy. I own and love the Bach Grands. of the five pairs of speakers I own these little things are the most emotive.

It seems that several speaker companies often make their own proprietary drivers which end up being more expensive and worse performing than some readily available off the shelf units.Sometimes they need a ton of crossover parts just to survive.Many times the manufactures then boast about how complex and sophisticated the crossover is in their literature .

All I have to say is you told me the same thing on my speakers when I drove them over. I listened to your speakers and I was a believer. I do think you were a little confused when I didn't want to just sit and listen to the music. I listened for a minute and that was all I needed as I pretty much summed you up in the first five minutes I could trust you. I have the CS encores I got from you up and going and couldn't be happier with them. I have them just jury rigged speaker wires until the tube connectors come in. Also cant wait until you call saying my center is done! I'm chomping at the bit as the center Im using temp is garbage old Yamaha I had in storage. Guys reading this Danny's stuff is the real deal I am very happy!

Scan Speak has one of the best tweeters available. Decent brand if you ask me. But it needs a good crossover.

I wonder if these manufacturers see these videos and just sit there with sweat running down their faces thinking, I never expected a third party would publicly dismantle our premium product and conclude it isn't even worth fixing. Wow. All the more reason to DIY fellas/gals.

I do believe Vienna acoustics has the newer drivers from Grand Symphony Edition- spider cone... that can match the Mozart Grand box ... problem is you that you need to order the crossover replacement from Vienna also.

I think it is customed Seas driver. Some variation on the classic polypropylene design from "Prestige" series.

When you speak about upgrading capacitors for example, can you hear the difference between the quality of the upgraded components , and therefore is there a sonic difference between them..

I think the little clear woofer that was bad is made of TPX plus some proprietary Vienna Acoustics additives, not polypropylene. The cone material probably had nothing to do with the erratic frequency response, however. My guess would be the voice coil and surround were not properly engineered. This is very hard to understand as their chief designer seems to be a very picky and demanding designer. You can find an interview with him on KZfaq.

I am having some popping out of my Vienna Acoustic Beethoven Grands. Curious what you'd recommend for replacing. It sounds like it's in my mid section. Mine are from 2009 or so. Thanks!

I wonder if the rubber surround has gone hard? I've had some speakers where that had occurred, and they sounded a bit peaky with lack of bass

How would you upgrade Triangle trios.

How did it measure at listening distance in the midrange? I guess the peak at 1,1kHz is still there but I think the lower woofer is lower to reduce floor bounce. At 1m or nearfield listening I would expect that wide presence recess in the measurement. Also the equal distance from tweeter to top and sides of the edge I would expect to see the irregular response in the lower tweeter region on axis, evening out off axis. That takes some careful voicing in the crossover not overcompensating the on axis ripples.

i own the mozart grands and positioned correctly they are wonderful. with that said I, well my fiancé blew one of the mid woofer drivers. any recommendations for replacing? maybe morel or ??

Its sad, but everything just isnt able to sound as good as the xls encore lol! Favorite bookshelf in my book, and wish i had em back.

Hi Danny, how did you removed the woofers? I removed the screws but the woofers are somehow glued to the cabinet. I really want to check the woofer but I'm afraid of prying it from the cabinet. Hoping for your reply. Thanks
