Felix the Cat is such a great NES game and was gifted to be broken. I'm going to try to get it working with Open Cart Surgery. Wish me luck!

Ive been fixing carts since about 2007. I buy in bulk on ebay. Get a multimeter and put it in multimeter continuity mode and check each pin on the bottom of the cart to the pins on the chip. If it beeps you have a connection, if it doesn't you have a bad trace and can fix it without a board swap. Ive only had to board swap about 3 or 4 times in about 14 years.
@Veganerd_
@Veganerd_ 2 жыл бұрын
Does reflowing the solder point fix a bad trace, or does it require something else? Would like to get in that myself, to keep my collection in working condition.
@finnertymatt
@finnertymatt 2 жыл бұрын
@@Veganerd_ A bad trace is a separate issue. My process is to clean the board like he did, and then take the multimeter and check from the pin to the chip and see if that's good. After that I will repair a bad trace with a piece of wire if any are bad or ripped. After that I will reflow the chips and add fresh solder to the joints. If all that happens to fail I will look into a board replacement if the game is worth it.

Congrats on getting the rare Felix game working again man! As well as fixing the NASCAR game. It hurt a little bit when you threw it behind you. lol Have you ever tried hooking up an NES or SNES, or Genesis classic to a CRT TV? I did and it looks like you are playing on actual hardware. You just have to hack it with Hakchi, then adjust in Retroarch settings. It takes a little bit of tweaking, but is way worth it.

Can't believe how much that's gone up in price. I wanted to trade for it at Retropalooza 2015 at Pat The NES Punk's table for Zelda Majora's mask. He didn't want to trade at the time. He had it priced at 30 so I passed. Year later it went up to 60 dollars. I was kicking myself for not getting it. Retropalooza 2018, I found a table that had that and Crash and the Boys and I bought them for 60. So Technically I was still able to get it for 30 lol. Great video though! Love the Open Cart series.

I disagree about RF, because I have seen both a PlayChoice 10, and a Nintendo Red Tent. The best video option is to replace the PPU Unit from the NES, with a PPU Unit from one of those systems, and wire up RGB To a KVM style RGB Monitor.

Question: have you ever applied the solder too long and melted the pins to the point that they’re FUBAR? I would like to attempt the solder method you use to “reflow” the pins as you say but I’ve never soldered in my life and am worried I’m going to nuke some carts lol
@BIGNICK620
@BIGNICK620 2 жыл бұрын
It's actually very easy to reflow. Just touch the tip of the iron to the solder. As soon as you see it melt, you remove the iron and it will solidify. It's easier to see it melt in real life than on camera.
