I have an acorn Junior as well and there's a learning curve. But one place I saw they put gasket on the top when you get the lid open the felt gasket and did the same to the ash pan and it helps regulate the temperature much better. By the way excellent video everything look delicious

It is a learning curve. ABSOLUTELY. I'll definitely look into that gasket feature. Sounds legit to me giving it better regular Temps. And thanks for the comment I really appreciate it.

Thanks for the video, I just bought one and am looking forward to doing a pork butt with it. I had a full size acorn in the past and I remember how well it worked. I also remember how easy the temp could get away from me too. I use lump too, but sometimes I use hardwood. Wood is even harder to control, so I just use it for grilling at higher temps. With the cost of charcoal, I love to be able to shut it down when it's done, and save what's left for the next time.

I know I'm late to the game here, but just found your video. You did great on both pieces of meat! I just purchased a Jr, and ready for my first cook on it. Can you tell me how you set your fire to last that long? Did you do charcoal first and once it was white, then fill it up with more and then some wood? Or did you just fill it full and light it?

I fill it up & light it in the middle. I then get it up to temp & just low-slow smoke. Sometimes it will fluctuate but for the most part it should give you a long smoke. Keep at it & you'll figure out your grill. It's trial & error but very fun at the same time learning your grill buddy.

By the way I do use lump more than charcoal so it will vary ok. Each burns at a different pace but it's at your choosing what you want to cook with ok. Just learn to use both as I do but I prefer lump.

I’m looking at an Acorn Jr and a Weber and trying to decide which to go with.

@@Aswaguespack which Weber were you thinking? I find myself using the akorn more. Better insulation so less fuel needed, cast iron grates, easier clean up of ash
@Aswaguespack Жыл бұрын
@@mrblonde71384 Thats my initial impression was the build quality looks superior on the Joe Jr. Better insulated should reduce heat loss and concentrate the heat where you need it -for your meats/veggies/fish or whatever

@@Aswaguespack you can't go wrong with either one but given the chance I would get the acorn first. I got my weber first because of a lower cost but then finally put some change together and got the acorn kamado. Hit me up and let me know what you get. I'd really love to know which one you get!!!

Yes I tried for 24 but the wind was making it difficult through out the night so it cooked a little faster.
