A lot of women want to know if they can have a VBAC, or attempt a vaginal birth after a C-section, after having 3 previous C-sections. And the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, or ACOG, the authorities on everything labor and delivery say that a woman may potentially attempt a vaginal birth after a c-section if she's had 2 previous C-sections and the circumstances are right. In other words the chance of a woman potentially having a vaginal birth needs to be high and the chances of her having a uterine rupture need to be low. And again under the right circumstances it might be possible but only a woman’s doctor can determine fi shes a good candidate for a VBAC or not. If a woman has had 3 previous C-sections then she can not have a vaginal birth. It's not recommended because the chances of having a uterine rupture or other complications are so high that it just shouldn't even be tried. SO after 2 you may possibly attempt a VBAC and you can talk with your doctor and they'll determine if you're a candidate. If you've had 3 or more in the past then you can just plan on having repeat C-sections for future children. Of course if you have more specific concerns you should talk with your OB provider and they can give you tailored information and advice about what to expect. And if you have more questions in the future for me feel free to ask them on our Facebook page at intermountainmoms and recommend us to your friends and family to.
