Hello, it's Thursday! I took a break to do something a little different this week, and looked at resizing a crochet pattern to make it smaller. I used the same steps as I used in the "bigger" video a couple of months back, and make mini spookitty!
The steps I'm following are here:
• 7 steps to make amigur...
The original Spookitty pattern can be found here:
• Free crochet pattern -...
Or a written version (now updated!) is here:

I'll be back next week with a crocodile, hope to see you then!

I really appreciate this cuz I mostly blind, so I work with bulky and chunky, but I don't always want something huge

Both big and small. My SIL showed me your channel and omg. I started my own Spider for my daughter. I'm going to shrink it and make a few for her class for her to give out for Halloween. But I am going to also make it bigger for her as well so she can have a mommy and baby

Oh my goodness spookitty is so cute! Would it be possible for you to make a video in the future on how to make your own pattern? I’ve begun to make my own patterns based of of shapes that I know, but I can’t figure out how to make more intricate shapes, and there are no resources that I can find on the internet.

I love that you make videos like this, it's so cool to see the experimental drafting stuff as it happens. I don't even crochet (yet) but I love seeing a crafter design and figure things out as part of the story of a project.

So far i've been enjoying making things smaller, BUT rather than changing the patterns, i've just gotten into making amigurumis with sewing thread and a 0.9mm hook hahaha!

Wow, this does look more difficult than making things bigger. I could see this as being useful for making mini crewmates from Among Us. I've already made several for friends and family, now I can make mini ones!

Would love to see a larger rainbow cat. Most items I make are for great niece's or nephews All love to lug them around or cuddle them. I have been asked for a unicorn, and a cat so am really interested in those patterns you have created 😊

I was wondering if you had a trick to gauging how much yarn you need for a project? I always end up coming short on yarn in a project, so I might just shrink projects from now on

So, dumb question, is simply cutting the first row in half not enoguh? What im working on starts with a MR and 6 sc. So ill make a MR with 3sc, then couldnt i just continue the pattern the way it is? Since its an even number, would it work like that?

You probably won't see this. But I am struggling with understanding r9. Any way you could break it down for me. For i tried the method from the normal pattern and it came out so bulky.

Hi! Looks like that row is the widest part of the eye holes. We start by working 6sc around, that bit should be obvious. That brings us to the first opening we have made using chains. Work a sc by inserting your hook around the chains made in the previous row. Just the one for now. That's going to start bring that side of the eye in. You are going to then Chain 2, and put another sc on the same chain from R8, but on the other end. So on that chain, you've sc, ch2, sc, and the single crochets should be one at the start of the R8 chain, one at the end of the R8 chain. This is because we are narrowing the opening, not closing it off altogether. You then will sc into the stitch between the two eye openings - this was a sc in R8 as well. That brings us to the second eye opening, where you will repeat what we just did - sc around the chain, ch2, sc around the chains on the other end. Then finish the row with 7sc to get back to our starting place. I hope this helps!

@@ComplicatedKnots I actually got it right! But yes super helpful! For the first pattern you did had put " over chain" but this pattern you put " on chain". So I sat puzzled for almost 2 hours torn between " do I loop over row 8 like the original pattern? Or do I sc in one of the stitches at the front then chain 2?" I experimented with my confusion and seeing which gave me the results I was looking for. And tada I did it right! Thank you so so much! I'm just getting back into crochet so I'm still dusting off the cobwebs of memory lol.

I prefer to upsize and gain detail instead of potentially loosing it. Downsizing has its advantages for keyrings and similar projects. I'd use thinner yarn though - the process you went through making mini Spookitty seemed unnecessarily stressful! I can't believe you were trolled about the spider upsizing being too 'simple', it took a lot more effort than just using larger yarn - you had to completely redesign the pattern!
@ComplicatedKnots
@ComplicatedKnots 2 жыл бұрын
I definitely prefer bigger, but smaller gets bonus points for how fast the projects are! It wasn't trolling so much as an offhand comment, but it encouraged me to push myself a little bit harder this time :)
