Introducing "Pain and suffering" and some of the worst Geoguessr scores since I attempted to get 0 points all those years ago.
Cluttered tropical paths and remote windswept islands stump me at the best of times, so you can only imagine how much I struggle on a map full of them, having not played in 5 months. Can I get to grips with this map and achieve my goal of 10,000 points? watch to the end to find out..
Have a go at this impossible map: www.geoguessr.com/maps/64c9ec...

They were almost all tropical places near the equator. On a mercator map projection, it might not seem that far away when you're used to Europe but the distances are bigger than you think.
@thewardenduncan
@thewardenduncan 4 ай бұрын
@@vaaggasje You are right, but the scoring here is intentionally more punishing as well. You can technically get a score of 0 while in the correct country in several places on this map, which is not possible in any country on normal world map scoring.
@Gameboygenius
@Gameboygenius 4 ай бұрын
The scoring formula is calculated based on the two locations that are farthest apart from each other. So something like a city or country map would have a very low score threshold, whereas something like this map would be a bit lower than a world map.

The scoring multiplier is based on how spread out the locations are. All of these locations are tropical so the points drop off is faster compared to the World map or other maps that have locations all around the world. You can see this when you play Country maps. The smaller the country the more accurate you have to be for the same score.

This is a hard map alright but probably a good one for people like me that sometimes guess based on vegetation, soil, geology, and topography (I'm an enviromental science major). I'm nowhere near as good as you, but at 5:05 I did think Japan, the presence of ferns, and a thick but not humid forest does hint towards Japan and not something closer to the equator

I too had never heard of the Eagle Islands. According to Wikipedia (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eagle_Islands), the larger of the two islands is only 2.45 sq. km, and once had a coconut plantation and a small settlement of plantation workers. However, since 1998 the islands are part of a nature reserve, and it is forbidden to land on the islands or anchor a boat nearby.

Sidenote: just to clarify, Henderson island is NOT the main island of the Pitcairn Islands (the name of the main one is in fact Pitcairn Island and is south-west of Henderson I believe). For some reason the pitcairn islands name on google maps is placed on that island, leading you to believe its the main one, despite it being unpopulated and completely flat, its a coral island I believe. The populated ‘Pitcairn Island’ itself is very mountainous and far smaller.
