After a long day of work, Kanye West goes to his Kanye Nest to take his Kanye Rest. He wakes up feeling his Kanye Best. Then he’ll get Kanye Dressed into his Kanye Vest to go on a Kanye Quest. He goes to church and becomes Kanye Blessed, then to a hotel room to be a Kanye Guest. Then to school to take his Kanye Test. He forgot to brush his teeth. Did he run out of Kanye Crest? Can we just agree that Charles have got to have insane patience to learn this. I mean every banjo player that is as good as these guys deserve all my musical respect, but he had to learn that on bass! Charles is amazing on bass but that must have taken som serious practice to nail that! I bow to you sir! That was amazing.

@@kenz2756 I think with classical training he means that Charles went through formal training, music theory, exercises, scales, rhythm classes and so on. You can easily see his very broad knowledge of music theory and wide variety of different techniques in all of his videos. All of that can of course be done on bass, so if this is his favorite instrument, that's just how it is. I mean, he obviously doesn't use the banjo techniques to play that fast here, he uses mainly tapping, which is his signature technique after all. For someone with his skills, this probably wasn't too hard. If he actually had to reproduce the same songs with the same technique on a bass, it probably would be just described as "Fast AF finger style" which is a purely technical skill and I am positive he could to that as well.

I play banjo, and it's not really all that hard to sound very fast with it. It's tuned to a chord and many stings are never fingered to make the fast notes. But both hands have to be fingering and picking almost every single note on the bass. This fellow ... leaves me speechless. He's in a league completely by himself. Amazing skill... I didn't think I'd ever get chills listening to bass, but...just WOW!!!

Haha! Excellent! I'm from Marietta, Georgia (40km North of Atlanta), and yours is the best of our accent I have heard by a brit. Tracy Ullman is also fantastic, but she does a different U.S. region. I speak a few languages, so I'm idiomatically as well as accent-aware. It's hard to make suggestions about your Georgia accent because it's really close already. Remember when Kate Winslet was in Titanic with Leo D, and they were at the railing of the ship, and he said he could teach her a few things, and she adds, "And spee-it" (for "spit".) We don't quite use two syllables like she did and like you tend to do. Other than that minor thing. I can't fault your pronunciation. I'll give you this, YOURS is about a hundred times better than anyone in Hollywood I have seen in movies and TV shows. What we heard on the Dukes of Hazard (though it was a great show!) was not authentic. All good wishes.

Johnny was actually ten at the time. :) I'm really glad that you did this, because the bluegrass section of your solo in ten styles was my favorite, and bluegrass isn't generally my favorite style. I think it works well with how you play, though. Another style that might, but doesn't get as much representation in what you play, is straight up Celtic music. (Irish Washerwoman being a classic example of one that's great for embellishment, especially in the bass lines.) For anyone curious, the tune's called Rockwood Deer Chase by Don Stover, and here's a segment of them practicing back in the day: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iqqklsx3p9qlpYU.html

Born and raised in Kentucky and loved Bluegrass music my whole 50 years of life so far... the Georgia accent is 7/10, the British accent is 6/10, and the bass "banjo pickin'" is 9.5/10. Tapping is not picking and has a different timber to it, but you have the speed bit down pretty well. Love the sound, but even taking the octave difference between banjo and bass into consideration, the sound quality between the picking and the tapping has a different effect on the ear and the notes.

As a banjo player, it was awesome to hear these songs on bass. Most bassists in bluegrass are pretty boring to listen to, but I knew Charles wouldn’t disappoint. Also like that he’s showing it to an audience that might not normally listen to it. The instrument is a lot cooler than the stereotypes surrounding it.

Charles, I love your videos to bits, but doing a hardest banjo solos video without Béla Fleck is like doing a hardest bass solos videos without Victor Wooten. Fleck is one of the meanest and most amazingly technical banjo players. Heck, the Wooten connection as a fellow Flecktone should have made him an obvious choice for this video. I hope you do another banjo-centric video in the future!
