The most impressive part of this video is that we take pride in guessing correctly whilst slowing it down and pausing from a bird's eye view, but Jokic is doing it in real time and from the ground, with a bunch of bodies obscuring his view. Truly generational playmaking abilities from The Joker.

@@Nikola_Nuggets you probably spend your time doing more important stuff than playing 2K. I think once you get the general idea of how modern teams value certain shots it becomes pretty clear what the plan should be. The issue isn’t seeing the pass before it happens. The issue is making it happen while Joel Embiid or Giannis is doing his best to stop you. Seeing a pocket pass open up before it looks like it has isn’t crazy. Capitalizing on the half a second before anyone else has seen it open is the crazy part.

@@Prince_Luci I'm a casual, so "the general idea of how modern teams value certain shots" is still a mystery to me. But I'm interested in learning more, and what you just wrote is helpful. Don't know why the national shows can't provide insight like u just did.
@Prince_Luci
@Prince_Luci 2 ай бұрын
@@Nikola_Nuggets modern teams value the highest value shots. Meaning shots at the basket (layups and dunks) and 3’s. Only the really really highest level guys like Lebron, kd, Kawhi, etc are really still allowed to operate in the mid range and even then the numbers guys are coming down after games to show them that as much as they like that one turn around fadeaway at 16 feet, it’s statistically not a very good one. Once you understand that, you can figure out the ball is probably going to the guy cutting towards the basket or the guy standing side opens for 3. Again, from above with time stopping powers. Doing it while a game is happening is insane.

It's amazing just how well Aaron Gordon fits with Jokic. Orlando spent a very high pick on him and tried to force him in to doing too much and it wasn't the right role for him. Denver trades for him and he's been the 3rd best player on a championship team and fits like a glove with Jokic. GM's around the league should try and learn from this situation and try to put their players in the best position for them to succeed rather than forcing them to do too much and hope they just magically figure it out. It's the sunk cost fallacy where teams draft a guy very high in the draft and to put them in a role that doesn't live up to that draft position seems to just not be acceptable to them. They'd rather see the player fail at running an offense/becoming a #1 option and great defender than accept that they aren't built for that role in the NBA (Very few guys are) and adjust their role to what they would excel in to maximize their success as well as the team's success. Andrew Wiggins, Aaron Gordon, Iguodala, all guys that were critical to their teams winning championships after being forced in to roles they weren't suited for on the team that drafted them. I hope GM's start seeing this and putting guys in better positions to succeed regardless of draft position. It's better for the player and for the team.
@Byronic19134
@Byronic19134 2 ай бұрын
This is a terrible take do you know why? Because how will you ever know if you don’t try? Both the Magic and Gordon thought that he was going to become a Blake Griffin type franchise force because of his raw athleticism. He was never asked to be the #1 in Orlando as they always had Vucevic. And Andrew Wiggins was not miscasts at all because his talent and production all suggest he should have absolutely been a franchise player. Just because a player didn’t put the work in to reach his potential doesn’t mean it is the team’s fault for asking and paying him to reach said potential. And lastly how could Gordon not fit with Jokic? All he has to do is hover around the rim and catch open passes it’s not like he’s displaying a unique skill set specific for Jokic. KJ Martin could avg 16 ppg starting on Denver doing just that. So anyway I do not agree with the mentality of being okay taking a guy top 5 in the draft because he has top 10 talent in the league and say it’s okay to be a role player that is how you get guys like Ben Simmons stealing 50 million a year.
@Nikola_Nuggets
@Nikola_Nuggets 2 ай бұрын
Excellent take. When these guys are willing to adjust their role because they see it just won't work, you got a true team player. Work with them.
@brandonc422
@brandonc422 2 ай бұрын
@@Nikola_Nuggets The players are often the ones that are willing to do it, it's the teams that have the sunk cost fallacy issue. They draft someone like Gordon quite high in the draft and they expect him to become a #1 scoring option, switchable plus defender and develop playmaking chops. They expect these wings to turn in to Kawhi, Jimmy, Tatum and guys of that ilk but it's just so rare to get a player like them. Teams then refuse to change a players role even if it would benefit the team and the player. I love seeing players like Gordon, Wiggins, Iggy and others excel playing in more suited roles and contributing in a big way to championship teams. Like with Gordon he went from "drafted too high, bust" to 3rd best player on a championship team who fits perfectly with the star of the team and every night their connection on the court shows. It's like for us common folk we go from a bad company that we're overworked and the boss yells at us then we leave and end up in a great environment where everyone helps get the work done, the boss is nice and we like the people we work with. It's a great feeling.

It gotta be hard for guys like Bron, Jokic, and Luka to not think most of the league are just idiot pawns they can manipulate rather easily. Like I use to pride myself in passing too, I remember reading how Jason Williams would go to a gym at night and practice nothing but passes so I started doing that too. And in pickup games nobody moves or does nothing but that wouldn’t stop me from doing things like faking a pass behind the defender because I knew nobody was there but the defender didn’t. Another trick is to stare down the player you are not going to pass too because the defense starts to anticipate a steal they see you staring somebody down only for the ball to go an entire other place. Even simply shxt like calling plays in a pickup game when you don’t have plays but the other team may think you are running a play, these are all the mental aspects of the game that are easy to do and really effective.

Watching this made me think about how Jokic has similarities to my favourite player of all time - Ben Simmons Ben also has a good read for passes … but joker can shoot the ball too!!!!! It is amazing how being able to shoot the ball increases a basketball players value on the court. When Ben has the ball in a stagnant half court possession the opponents sag off him. He won’t shoot so 5 opponents begin to guard 4 players who Ben can pass to. Ben still does well to often find someone. But joker - wow - with a deadly shoot he has opponents running in circles with no good options…..I predict joker is going to be a really really good player. Thanks for vid.
